Y’all, I’m a total romantic. I believe in love at first sight (this totally happened with BDK), happily ever after, and even Cinderella stories (I always cheer for the underdog!). That being said, I am not embarrassed to admit that I have cried during every single one of Nichols Sparks’ movies. Come on, The Notebook? I’ve seen it hundreds of times and still ball my eyes out at every viewing.
Even if you’re not a devoted NS fan (like Kristin and myself), you’re in for a real treat with today’s inspiration from our friends Faith Teasley and Kickstand Events. Inspired by Nicholas Sparks’ Safe Haven, this talented duo created a nautical dream wedding for the characters, Alex and Katie. I’ll let Faith take it away with a little insight into their creative process!
I’ve always been inspired by the North Carolina coastal town of Southport. When I first saw trailers for Nicolas Sparks’ new movie Safe Haven, which is based in Southport, I knew it’s small beach town vibe would be a beautiful source for wedding inspiration. I reached out to the talented ladies of Kickstand Events who were thrilled to create a dream wedding for the Safe Haven characters, Alex and Katie.
We decided to incorporate details that would really resonate with fans of the book and motion picture. We strategically chose locations straight from the movie. The beautiful Southport Marina served as our ceremony and reception location – the Marina staff was absolutely wonderful! The Southport Marina is a perfect venue for an intimate wedding. The white house pictured is the actual home used in the movie. The tower-like structure in the background is seen throughout the movie as well.
In the story, Alex gives Katie a special letter, so we decided to incorporate handwritten letters in the ceremony.
Readers of the novel will recognize the reception menu – it’s straight from Chapter 16.
Kickstand Events’ incredible vision and enthusiasm for this project was beyond amazing. Together, we created beautiful imagery that we hope will bring inspiration to brides seeking a small beach town romance vibe for their wedding.
An extra treat: this adorable couple in action plus behind-the-scenes details in this fun film from the guys at Blueberry Fusion!
Haven’t seen Safe Haven? That’s okay, take a gander at the preview, and you’ll love this shoot even more! But I must warn you, you may get teary-eyed!

Marissa, you are definitely not alone–I can’t even watch a preview for a Nicholas Sparks movie without getting misty-eyed! All of the vendors did such a beautiful job incorporating sweet details from the book on this shoot. I especially love that cake!
Just… STUNNING! I haven’t seen the movie (only the preview), but it’s perfect!!
What an elegant and beautiful scenario. Loved the book, loved the movie, love the wedding.
That is my boat at the marina!! Nice job. The cake is really a nice touch. Well done.
