Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

There are quite a few lovely things we featured on the blog this week, but the most exciting by far was the reveal of our newest cover! Our fifth anniversary issue really is prettier than a little red wagon full of speckled pups!

We welcomed our Southern Bride of the Month, Lauren to the blog! She’s planning a wedding in Georgia to her beau, James.

We posted our last V5 Behind the Scenes bow tie giveaway this week! Make sure you enter here for the chance to win a bow tie from our prop closet.

With October well behind us, we thought it would be fun to do a little behind-the-scenes recap. Take a look at what the SW ladies were up to!

We are super pumped to celebrate the holidays with y’all! Join us for our fourth annual Ornament swap and our second annual Gingerbread Barn Building Competition! Details here.

We had to sneak in one last gorgeous shoot before we dive into V5 features! We love the rustic tones and deep colors of this fall inspiration shoot.

Real Weddings and true love

Leigh and Lander created a wedding that was fashionable and heartfelt. See it here.

Lauren + Jeremy’s wedding had the perfect dose of fun, celebratory details. See it here.

Great things ahead!

Now that we have a special copy of V5 in our hands, we are even more excited for our big V5 Launch Party! We are so grateful for everyone who wants to celebrate with us. Unfortunately, there are so many of you that we’ve sold out of space and can only accommodate those who are registered! We’re looking forward to seeing all of you belles and beaus who registered in your gold and glittery best on Thursday. Yahoo!

Huge hugs and congrats go out to everyone saying “I do” this weekend, including our Southern Bride Blogger, Amanda!

Have an amazing weekend, friends! What are y’all doing? I’ll be in Asheville helping my sister plan her wedding!

Happy Friday, my friends! I hope y’all are either still blissfully in sugar comas or have swiftly have come down them and are preparing for the holiday hubbub ahead. Either way, there’s plenty of excitement to be had since there are only 11 days until V5 arrives!

Today we’re hosting a group of magazine journalism students from UNC and letting them tour our little office (which is, at Emily’s request, not decorated with holiday stuff quite yet). It’s reminding me of my not-so-distant past as a UNC student, too! If you’re one of our readers who love what we do and hope to do the same one day, we put together a little post for you here.

We know many gals who grew up down South, moved away and are planning weddings that blend their past and present, which is why we love this Southern Meets New York City inspiration shoot!

Our behind the scenes giveaway is still going strong! Help us countdown the days until V5 arrives by entering to win a bow tie here.

Happy Halloween week! We had to celebrate a bit by sharing some of our favorite childhood costumes with you.

And we absolutely would not let the opportunity to carve a pumpkin pass us by!

This festive black and gold shoot is the perfect inspiration for the transition from Halloween to holiday.

We couldn’t resist sharing this sweet Southern Spotting! Each of the delectables in these vintage containers were childhood favorites of the groom and made by his mother!

Real Weddings take the cake!

Lisa + Nick’s preppy wedding at the bride’s childhood home boasted bold stripes and hot pink florals! See it here.

Hannah + Christian’s “I do’s” were fresh and fabulous. We are in love with the couple’s adorable style and the bright pops of color! See it here.

Have an amazing weekend, friends! I’m hiking Grandfather Mountain tomorrow, what are y’all up to?

I love the second bow tie from the top left and the bottom tie on the left as well. They would go great with our mint and navy color scheme.

Happy Halloween, y’all! Just a few short days until V5 arrives. Until then, feast your eyes on today’s gorgeous wedding!

Hannah + Christian’s North Carolina nuptials were stylish and fresh… and involved twinkle lights at their ceremony! (I know you love this, Nicole!) But beyond the gorgeous decor (by our awesome BRV members Cheryl Holmes + Fiore Fine Flowers) and ridiculously stylish mix-n-match mint bridesmaid gowns is family, tradition and really awesome music! I also love her take on wedding planning. She says: Enjoy it! Do what you want to do, even if other people think it sounds crazy. However, do take other people’s advice, especially your mother’s. Moms are the absolute BEST! Yes, Hannah, moms ARE the best!

So is photographer Eric Boneske for sharing this lovely day with us!

How fun are Hannah’s shoes? They’re like a pastel disco party for the feet!

Hannah described their wedding as “eclectic and soft,” and I’d have to agree. I also have to gush over this little doll in a tutu! What an adorable flower girl!

What a dapper group of gents. I love how Hannah + Christian tied in the mix-n-match menswear by having only the groom wear a complete suit!

We both love music so much that choosing the perfect songs was important. We chose “Sea of Love” by Phil Phillips (and no, not the one from American Idol!) to walk down the aisle. For the recessional, we chose the song “All Day and All Night” by The Kinks. I love songs from that British Invasion era, and I wanted something that sounded like a giant celebration!

What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? The barn tables! They were so beautiful and made the flowers pop. Plus, I hate table cloths, and this way, we didn’t have to use any!

Describe your wedding cake or dessert: DELICIOUS! It was a beautiful cream color and was designed to look like each layer was a balancing act, like Alice in Wonderland!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met at a mutual friend’s house. We were 17!
Describe the proposal. A simple picnic at the cove by the beach.
In what month did you get married? August
How many guests attended your wedding? Around 200
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: It was not too difficult. It was the third dress I tried on
Describe your wedding flowers: eclectic and soft
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The barn tables with the flowers and of course, the music!
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Our food was very Southern. We had blackened mahi, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese all the good stuff!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Picking the perfect music was very difficult for me. I love music so much. The problem is that I love music that isn’t well suited for a wedding. Walking down to my favorite band, The Arctic Monkeys was not an option. However, if it were just up to me, I might have done it!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Seeing Christian at the end of the room, waiting for me to meet him at the altar.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? Enjoy it! Do what you want to do, even if other people think it sounds crazy. However, do take other people’s advice, especially your mother’s. Moms are the absolute BEST!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Who knows! We would love to travel, move to an exciting new place, and make a difference.

Fiore Fine Flowers and Social Butterfly Events are fabulous members of our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!

The bride and groom really showed their unique style with this wedding design, from that great cake to the terrific color accents to the grooms pant length! Very happy feel in the photography.
