Let me start by saying that I spent last Saturday night in watching this movie and bawling my face off! There is just something so incredibly romantic about Allie and Noah’s love story that just causes me to immediately reach for my hankie!
In my humble opinion, The Notebook is one of the best Southern romance movies of our generation (yep, I just went there!). Style-wise, well don’t even get me started. Allie is sophisticated, yet fun and her accessories are so perfectly classic Southern I would die to raid this prop closet! And Noah… that driving cap, the shaggy mop, the sweet Southern drawl … need I say more?

Since there wasn’t actually a wedding shown in The Notebook, we’ve decided to pull a few of our favorite key elements to discuss. First up, the blusher veil. If you remember that fateful scene where Allie is trying on the gorgeous wedding dress she plans to wear to marry dear, sweet Lon you’ll notice her great long cathedral length veil and blusher. We’re sure that she wore a similar classic style to her wedding to Noah!

In the movie, Noah was very rarely seen without his driving cap. These caps, also known as the flat cap, were originally made of wool or tweed and worn for warmth, but in the 1920’s this hat became a fashionable “street” look for working class young men. I think this adorable little guy below looks more sweet than street in his cap and bow tie combo!

I’m a huge fan of our next item – I think that classic white gloves never go out of style! I think you’d agree with me that Allie would have worn lovely pair to her wedding to Noah. These stylish brides below are proof that white gloves aren’t just for Deb Balls anymore.

Last, but most certainly not least we have the rowboat scene! Who could forget this scene? Romantic, relaxing and just plain gorgeous. Feast your eyes on these beauties below, then grab your beau and make plans to enjoy this sweet past time under some giant gorgeous oak trees and sunshine (or rain)!

I agree wholeheartedly about “The Notebook”…. one of the best movies and of course, great inspiration for weddings here in the south.. no other place is as pretty.
Couldn’t agree more, Larry! The South is so incredibly pretty!
Oh goodness!! I completely second your statement of it being one of the greatest Southern romance films of our generation… such an incredible movie! And the style is just AMAZING. Love love love this post!
Thanks, Kelly! I’m so glad you enjoyed this feature! xo, Marissa
Yay!! Been waiting for this one! Love everything you picked, and I would add a big flower in the bride’s hair (maybe switch out the veil during the reception), and red lipstick :)
Hi Lisa! Love the idea of the flower and the red lipstick! So classic! Glad you enjoyed this feature! xo, Marissa
Loved this post! But you can’t forget about the invites! I have to point you to this Allie + Noah invitation suite I stumbled upon on The Future Mrs. Darcy: http://www.thefuturemrsdarcy.com/invitation/allie-noah/. Adorable right?!
Great post Marissa! I love that movie too!
Great job on this piece I have enjoyed it. The Notebook is also my all time favorite movie! This is what I imagine my dream wedding looking like. If you have any other websites or any ideas for putting together a big Southern wedding I would greatly appreciate it!
Oh wow, I almost squealed when I clicked on the “SWM” favorites icon on on my browser (at work no less!) and this post popped up. This is by far one of my favorite movies of all time and I so wish we could see how they styled Allie as a bride. I imagine her dress would be very Grace Kelly though. Marissa, you totally nailed it with the veil with the blusher and the white gloves. So classy :)
I would have loved to see Allie + Noah’s wedding as well! I’m sure she would have been stunning! I’m so happy you loved the feature! xo, Marissa
This is SO sweet and beautiful – what a GREAT idea for an inspiration shoot – you should expand further!!
Marissa! I’m soooo glad that you chose THE NOTEBOOK! I adore this film, and the style lent itself beautifully to this spread. I’ve been waiting for this one. Great work! Another reason I love SW!
Thanks, Kristina! I’m so glad you loved it!
Wow! I should have sent you my Engagement PIctures by now! Fits this perfect…of course its my favorite movie ever!
Oh my goodness. This makes me want to have our e-pics done in a canoe in Biloxi Bay. I’m just imagining the moss-covered oaks as a backdrop. *sigh*
On a side note: My fiance is a restaurant manager. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams came to our city a few years back. (Not sure why.) When they showed up at his restaurant, all of the servers were starstruck and freaked out. So he was the one that took care of them. LOL!
I envy him for that. ;-p
Hi Shannon, how cool that your fiance got to meet Ryan and Rachel! What fun!
How about the classic Gone With The Wind? Scarlett O’Hara’s glamorous (and sometimes audacious) fashions would be a blast to try adapting for the modern Southern bride. Not to mention her gallant leading man, Captain Rhett Butler!
I think that sounds like a fabulous idea, Megan! I adore Scarlett and of course Rhett!
