UPDATED: Read below for new + improved contest rules!

Hi friends! I hope you are all enjoying the new layout as much as I am. I’ve spent hours poring over the new Wedding Resources section and perusing Lara, Katharine, and Emily’s new personal blogs, much to my professors’ dismay. But have you seen Emily’s paper pick of the week yet? How could I focus on classes when there are so many new goodies to discover on the Southern Weddings blog?

Speaking of paper, I want to introduce all of you to a fabulous invitation studio straight out of NYC (but you’d never know it…). Swiss Cottage Designs is a small company that makes 100% custom invitation suites completely tailored to their customers. They may be based in New York, but they remind me of one of those old time Southern mom-n-pop shops where every customer is a friend.

Since this is our very first contest post on the new and improved Southern Weddings site, we wanted to make sure that the winner this week got an extra special, sentimental prize:

Win: Customized couple prints, including mat and frame, based on a picture of you and your significant other from Swiss Cottage Designs. Really, you’ll want to hang this right over the fireplace.

To Enter: We want to know what three words sum up you + your sweetie to a tee!

This giveaway will end Monday, December 13 at midnight. Send keep those comments coming!

silhouette artwork would be perfect for C and I because we just can’t seem to take a good picture together! that’s probably because the three words that best describe us are:
    -goofy
    -immature
    -fidgety
a silhouette print (because it won’t depict our complete inability to both look nice in a picture together, ever) is basically our dream come true!

Worth 1000 Miles: Brandon and I can not wait to celebrate our May 29 wedding. We’ve racked up thousands of miles fighting the distance between us. We are best friends, we laugh, we have tearful goodbyes, we fight over covers and who has to walk the dog, but we love each other more than life itself, and are counting the days til we can fight over the covers every morning.

All Kinds of Weather…so technically it’s four words, but we are huge Gator fans and I know that now and after our March 5th wedding, we’ll be one another’s support in all kinds of weather!

We are Bashert. In Yiddish, this perfect match is called “bashert,” a word meaning fate or destiny. The word “bashert” can be used to refer to any kind of fortuitous good match, such as finding the perfect job or the perfect house, but it is usually used to refer to one’s soul mate. My other half brings out the best in me and still loves me at my worst. I am reminded every day how lucky I am to have such a loving “bashert.”

Paper Pick :: Dapper Paper

by in Personal on

Ever since things like the telephone and internet and email and Skype it’s been pretty easy to collaborate with vendors from around the world no matter where you live. We love this! It gives brides and grooms so many more options that might not be available to them in their tiny, or super traditional, hometown. But there’s still a thrill (at least for wedding nerds like me!) when you find someone awesome in your own backyard.

Such is the case with Dapper Paper and Southern Weddings! Chris and Elizabeth are practically our neighbors — they’re based in Raleigh — and though we’ve never met, we ARE collaborating on an awesome project that I can’t wait to share soon! In the meantime, I thought they’d make a perfect choice for my inaugural “paper pick.” All of the images in this post are their custom designs.

Chris and Elizabeth love design, food, music, and pajamas…. and oh yes, they specialize in designing unique wedding stationery! From invites to posters, they can handle it all and handle it well. But, as they say, they’re not tied down to weddings; they design for any occasion. They also LOVE special projects, which is how we got hooked up with them (see above!). Best of all, ALL of their designs are hand-drawn and professionally typeset by the husband-and-wife team. Kudos, you two!

Besides their stellar design sense, what I love most about Dapper Paper is their ability to think outside the box and their cheeky sense of humor. They just seem like cool cats you’d love to hang out with, you know?

You can visit Dapper Paper on their blog, at their Etsy shop, or through their Twitter. Spiffy!

Just so we’re all on the same page, all of my Paper Picks and Handmade Finds are simply things I’ve found and loved. These posts are NOT paid advertising, they’re just a way for me to share my faves with you!
