I know it’s only just now spring, but is anyone else already itching for summer after seeing Dana + Danny’s ceremony in the Sunshine State? The bride + groom took the celebration indoors for an intimate reception at the Oyster Bay Yacht Club, where guests enjoyed dinner from My Personal Chef (904-626-1677) and berry-topped wedding cake courtesy of Chez Lezan Bakery. The newlyweds kept the decor minimal with understated centerpieces from Dottie B Florist that played up the sophisticated nautical theme of the Yacht Club. Thanks to Melissa Schollaert Photography for sharing her work!

Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted the flowers to be very simple but elegant. They were mostly creams with hints of blush. I loved my bouquet of roses, freesia and cymbidium orchids. I had as much fun finding and designing the vases for the flowers. I found the mercury glass apothecary bottles at an antique market in Atlanta. We weren’t able to have any glass outside because of the pool, so I wrapped soup cans of various sizes with decorative papers. I loved the patterns of the papers against the monochromatic flower arrangements.
Describe your wedding cake: I found an image of figs and dark grapes in a bowl and knew immediately that I wanted to incorporate fruit into the cake. We placed bowls of cranberries on some tables as a way to bring in the season and tie the cake design into the table settings. We also incorporated cranberries into the menu and signature cocktail. At the beginning of planning, I didn’t think I really cared about the cake as much as some of the other details, but it ended up being one of my favorite features, so I placed it front and center! I also loved the cake stand that I found at an Antique market in Atlanta.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? (From the groom) The doors of the Church opening with the sunlight coming in and seeing Dana and her Dad walk down the aisle. (From the bride) I would have to agree with Danny. I also loved walking down the aisle as husband and wife after the ceremony. It was the best feeling.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We opted for traditional vows. It was so emotional, that I think reciting our own vows would have been challenging. The mood was lightened a bit when our Reverend dropped the rings! Some people in the back thought Danny fainted when he bent down to get them.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are moving to Tampa, Florida within the month and are hoping to find our own place soon where we can get out first dog.

I have a real soft spot for black bridesmaids dresses, but the mix-and-match frocks Dana’s girls selected for her Florida wedding officially top my list. Yes, the ruby red shoes and all-white bouquets (courtesy of Dottie B Florist) the girls paired with their cocktail dresses may have something to do with my love affair for Dana + Danny’s wedding fashion. Not to be outdone by her stylish ‘maids, the bride donned a tiered Rosa Clara gown and birdcage veil from Erin Cole. And let’s not forget those frilled Badgley Mischka shoes! Melissa Schollaert photographed the couple’s traditional church ceremony at St. Peters, and To Doers Event Planning provided day-of coordination.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. I went to an all girl’s high school and Danny went to the public high school nearby. We ended up at a party together with mutual friends in the summer going into my senior year and have been together ever since. Ten years later and we are husband and wife!
Describe the proposal. (From the groom) Dana and I dated for ten years; through high school and into our late twenties. I arranged our apartment with flowers, candles, lights, and pictures in chronological order throughout the apartment, with the last picture in a vacant wedding frame, leading to our back patio where I got on one knee and asked her to marry me. (From the bride) It happened on a Thursday night and totally took me off guard! I was hysterical the moment I walked in the apartment. It was great because we had a trip planned two days later and were able to celebrate with my extended family at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Fun, romantic and emotional.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: We couldn’t be happier with the decision to hold our wedding in Amelia Island. It’s such a beautiful place, especially in November. With it being so small, our guests were bumping into each other on the street and it really lends itself to spontaneous get-togethers, which we love. It’s such a carefree, relaxed atmosphere. You can’t beat it.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I absolutely loved my dress. Two of my friends saw it on the hanger and suggested I try it on. It was love at first sight! Before trying on any dresses, the salon owner said that your wedding dress should be the fanciest dress you ever wear. I have to agree!

That was a wonderful wedding, and I couldn’t be happier for Danny and Dana. The bridesmaids were certainly stunning, but I must say that the groomsmen deserve to be mentioned when discussing this fine wedding. Those young men were amazingly handsome, dashing, and looked fabulous in their black suits.

What a pretty wedding. The colors are fantastic; great photography. And all those shoes are so great.
