Today’s Southern Spotting is simple and sweet — and oh so Southern. With the help of the planners at By Invitation Only, the bride and groom dreamt up this wall of mason jars to go behind their bar, to the delight of their guests, I’m sure!

As I’m nearing the end of my own wedding preparations and really thinking through how all of the details I’ve been planning are going to be integrated into the reception, I’ve realized more and more that a large part of surprising and delighting guests is in the styling of details. These mason jars would have been adorable on a plain shelf, as well, but pairing them with the ladders and old boards really takes them up a notch! And of course, I love the mix of striped straws and washi tape flags.

Huge thank you to Courtney Dox for sharing this gem with us! And tell me: Have you thought much about the “styling” of things at your wedding? Pies in china cabinets, signature drinks displayed on old scales, and a guest book set up at a writing desk sure make a big impact, but they’re a ton of work to plan and implement!

I love jam and mason jars, both separately and together — and mostly at weddings! In fact, the other day, my friend called me from the grocery store in a jam conundrum — which to choose? Thank goodness I was available, in my infinite wisdom, to guide him through the options. Unfortunately, I’m not the best at canning things in general, so this handy DIY from the lovely ladies at Yours is the Earth will have all us reaping the benefits!

This fun jam recipe is meant to be stored in the refrigerator, so you don’t have to get into the nitty-gritty of actual canning. (But feel free to use pretty jars, regardless!) Our friends at Yours is the Earth have provided us with canning labels, too! Perfect to personalizing those jam wedding favors, no? I love a homemade touch at weddings and I think guests really appreciate it, too.

What you’ll need:

2 pints ripe strawberries (or about 5 cups), hulled and chopped
1/2 cup organic cane sugar
The juice of a whole lemon

What to do:

Bring all of these ingredients to a simmer in a dutch oven. Mascerate the strawberries until you have a bright, sticky, slightly chunky jam. Transfer to sterilized glass jars with tight-fitting lids. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, if you can make it last that long! Those biscuits are calling!

If you are feeling really adventurous, add a drizzle of balsamic and a few cracks of pepper to the jam while it’s cooking.

For the labels:

Download our PDF template here, and print onto regular paper or sticker paper. Cut along the black outline with scissors. If you’re using regular paper or cardstock, place the label on top of a mason jar lid, then screw the metal ring on top of it. Or, punch a hole through the top and hang it around your jar with a bit of twine or ribbon.

If you’re using sticker paper, cut out and place that pretty little label anywhere your heart desires.

Thanks to our friends at Yours is the Earth for sharing this DIY! Now tell us, what will your wedding favors be?

V4 Feature :: Mason Jars

by in Inspirations, Main on

Mason jars: you either love ’em or you hate ’em. We happen to love them, no matter what anyone else says! And these clever ideas for repurposing them? They just make us love our masons even more! Jose Villa and Lisa Vorce teamed up to create this gorgeous spread, and we’re so glad they did. Let me walk you through a few of their delightful ideas!

Use the smallest-size mason jars to hold individual servings of pie or crumble.

Elicit one last “oooh” and “ahhh” from your guests with these petite jars of yogurt paired with individual bags of granola! You can find similar jars right here.

How ingenious is this?! Individual servings of raw oysters, each nestled in its own mason jar. Add ice and a single-serve bottle of Tabasco sauce, and you’ve got a jaw-dropping hors d’oeuvres!

This next idea is perfect for a summer wedding: individual servings of ice cream scooped into mason jars! The seersucker fabric tops make them three times as cute (yep, there’s some math for you!).

Anyone who says mason jars are country and rustic, period, need to take a look at this final idea. It’s my favorite of them all: a mason jar champagne tower!

There’s even more inspiration than we featured here, so hop on over to the editorial gallery!
