Do y’all remember this photo? After a particularly cold winter, the dogwoods that inspired our A New Beginning editorial began to bloom early. While we usually have no complaints about early spring flowers, it caused a bit of a panic for Emily and I as we rescheduled our first V7 shoot of the year four times. Bless our sweet vendor friends’ hearts! Thankfully, it worked out in our favor, and we ended up with the most beautiful spring day…and, the biggest dogwood tree we’ve ever seen, blooms still fully intact. Hooray! We started the day at Emily’s house, styling the invitation suite, prepping details, and doing our best to keep her kitty away from our cake.

Last winter seemed to go on forever, which is one of the reasons we planned this shoot in the first place. We were inspired by the joy and peacefulness of spring finally arriving, and how similar that is to an engagement. Just as the spring brings about an enchanting sense of new life and the promise of new beginnings, a wedding is when a new life together is created, and a bride and groom have a chance to start a whole new chapter of their story. In the shade of a historic home, under the dogwoods that are so beloved in North Carolina, we created this shoot to celebrate bringing together history and heritage in a fresh new way. We were overjoyed to have our dear friends, Landon and Jordan of Landon Jacob Photography, capture every sweet detail for us!

We loved working with Kelly Perry of Philosophy Flowers for the first time, and were all head over heels for the way she incorporated our signature bloom into the bouquets and arrangements!

Love these pastel bridesmaid dresses as much as we do? Good news: they’re from Little Borrowed Dress, an amazing bridesmaid dress rental company! Your favorite gals will love having the option to either rent or buy their dresses for your big day.

These sweet little flower girls stole the show! They looked precious in their mix and match BHLDN dresses and The Scalloped Window crowns, and had so much fun with their extra long Hazel Faire ribbon wands, reminiscent of traditional maypoles.

We incorporated verses from Song of Solomon into our paper goods and fabric banners–a Bible verse or prayer that is special to you as a couple is such a meaningful detail you can bring into your wedding day.

Our bride and groom could not have been sweeter! This real couple drove to North Carolina from their home in Alabama to model in this shoot, and they were married in real life just a month later. We all joked that we were relieved Ashley was not wearing this Monique Lhuillier gown for her actual wedding, and we didn’t spoil the surprise for Ryan!

Our friends at Life Stage Films tagged along with us to capture this day on video! Lovely, isn’t it? I can’t stress enough how relieved we were to have such gorgeous weather.

Now for one of our favorite parts of sharing our editorials with y’all online: a giveaway! Sibo Designs generously sent us the bride’s veil all the way from The Netherlands, and we’re thrilled to give it away to one of our lucky readers. The veil is impossibly light and dreamy, and it would look so gorgeous with a huge variety of gowns! You can read more about it here, and then enter in a variety of ways below. Good luck!

I love the look of the bridemaids, and am doing the little borrowed dress for them. My question is which color blue is this? I have samples of the mint, and then the powder and sea glass. I know the green is the mint but not sure on the blue. The sea glass sample I have is more tiffany colored than whats shown here so I want to double check :)

  32. avatar Amanda reply

What color green and blue is used in this shoot? I’m using the same company for my BM’s and wanna make sure I order the right colors.

Southern fashionistas, this wedding film is looking at you! Melissa donned not one but two gorgeous gowns for her and Jason’s celebration, but the sartorial eye candy is only one reason why we love this highlights film from Life Stage. The rest, of course, is the heartfelt love between these two and their families. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!

From the bride:

There were butterflies everywhere the day of our wedding — it was just fascinating to see them fluttering around the grounds. Jason’s mother had died when he was very young, and I knew he was missing her very much that day. We had placed her favorite flowers (daisies) on her chair for the ceremony, and right after Jason and I said I do, a butterfly flew between us. Jason had trouble catching his breath for a moment, because he knew it was his mother watching down on us and sending her love and blessings through the gorgeous butterflies. Makes me cry every time I think of that special and unforgettable moment.

If you love this wedding, be sure to check out Jennifer Bearden’s photos from the day here! Big thanks to Life Stage Films for sending this beauty our way!

We’ve had a swell of, well, swell new additions to our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory, and I’m so happy to share a few of them with you today! In reverse alphabetical order, just for fun…

P.S. Potential new BRV members, see below for an important note!

Shaking Hands Productions crafts your wedding day film like a piece of art, shooting every moment cinematically and unobtrusively and with a bit of Super8 film throw in for good measure. They are based in Virginia.

Make Merry! is the most cheerful invitation design house that you ever did see! I love that Laura sees her mission as “discovering what is special, unique and personal about those I’m designing for… and bringing it to life!”

Live View Studios is a husband and wife photography team based in North Carolina. Since they describe themselves as “hopeless romantics,” it’s no surprise that they describe their photos as romantic and intimate, too!

I adore that one of the things that Life Stage Films loves what they do is catching moments their couples never knew existed. I think that’s something video does exceptionally well, and I love that these North Carolina filmmakers celebrate that!

Krystle Akin’s clean, fresh images are captured with a mix of film and digital formats, something we love in the SW office! She’s based in East Texas but travels all over.

We know that Mississippi resources are few and far between in our Directory (we’re working on it!), which is just one reason why we’re thrilled to have Kendall Poole Event Planning! Kendall and her team specialize in multi-day celebrations and personal relationships with their couples.

We’ve been lucky enough to work with Jennifer Ericksen on quite a few magazine projects (including our V3 cover, an editorial for V4, and an upcoming online feature!), and so we’ve seen firsthand her talent and kindness! We’re thrilled to be able to recommend her as a hair and makeup stylist to NC brides.

As I’m sure y’all have surmised, the SW ladies are suckers for gorgeous penned letters. Hardink Calligraphy’s modern, friendly style is just our cup of (sweet) tea!

Speaking of sweet things, we’re also thrilled to welcome Chic Sweets to the family! Natalie specializes in custom dessert bars, and Florida brides are lucky to have her!

The beautiful work of Amelia Johnson is balm to the eyes, isn’t it? She’s based in DC/Virginia, but loves to travel, too!

To check out all of our Blue Ribbon Vendors, just click over to the full directory! You can search by category or state to find your perfect match. Vendors, if you’re interested in getting involved, just fill out this form and Kristin will get in touch!

Please note BRV membership rates will go up slightly starting on January 1, 2013. We will never raise rates on current members as long as your membership doesn’t lapse, so if you’ve been on the fence about applying, I’d suggest doing so now to lock in at the current rate! We would love to hear from y’all!
