What did I tell you: amazing, right?  The newlyweds’ celebrated with an open-air reception at the Biltmore Estate where the highlight (at least according to the bride!) was the detailed wedding cake from the Estate’s talented pastry team. We tend to agree: it’s hard to imagine a cake more perfect for an authentic Carolina wedding.  Thanks to the darling duo at Joey + Jessica for getting our last week of September (wow!) off to a great start.

See all the photos from Leigh + Jeff’s wedding in their Real Wedding Gallery!

What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking down the aisle and seeing my family and friends, many of whom had traveled so far to join us for our big day.  It was such a surreal experience to have those closest to us gathered in one place.
Did you write your own vows?  If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line?  We did not write our own vows, but one of my favorite moments during our ceremony is when Braidstream, a local string ensemble, played Simple Gifts, my favorite hymn.  It’s a Shaker Hymn from the mid-nineteenth century.  Here is one of my favorite verses:

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

Very impressive– and the cake! So unique and lovely. My man and I both enjoyed looking at your sweet pictures and contemplated our own wedding in 20-some days….Everything looks just splendid, and we wish you heartiest congratulations!

Can we all just agree that Leigh’s wedding up-do is simply stunning?  Stunning!  Now that that’s settled, we can focus on the awesome details from Leigh + Jeff’s celebration at the Biltmore Estate.  Joey + Jessica Seawell photographed the lovely couple, and Melissa Porter of the Asheville Event Company planned the traditional North Carolina wedding.  The bride wore a dramatic Carolina Herrera gown (with a to-die-for train!), and her maids wore a mix of hydrangea-blue frocks from J. Crew.  Of course, there’s an equally amazing reception waiting for you this afternoon!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  A mutual friend suggested we meet.  We were living in Washington, but were both originally from North Carolina.
Describe your wedding cake: We had a hazelnut cake with vanilla pastry cream, and a white cake with buttercream and raspberry preserve filling.  We had topiary leaves made from sugar paste, decorated the cake with hydrangea accents.  The pastry chef at the Biltmore was amazing!
