We were joking in the Southern Weddings office the other day that although our working lives might occasionally look glamorous on Instagram, 99.5% of our jobs is sitting at our desks and answering emails – ha! Last Thursday, however, was the exception to the rule. We got a rare treat when our friend Kelly Perry of Philosophy Flowers came to our office with gorgeous blooms in tow, and taught us each to make a spring arrangement!

Big hugs to Marcie Meredith for these photos!

We each got to choose from a selection of vessels – low bowls, compotes, and urns. Kelly started by showing us how to use chicken wire to hold the flower stems inside the container, which was super helpful!

Then, we each got to pick our favorite blooms from our personal “flower shop.” There were so many beauties to choose from, including forsythia, Japanese ranunculus, and coral amaryllis! Each SW lady gravitated towards different blooms, which was neat to see. Kelly taught us the basics of constructing an arrangement, then moved from gal to gal consulting and tweaking based on our individual process.

We were all so impressed with how easy Kelly made everything and how wonderful of a natural teacher she is! We were also pretty proud of our finished arrangements :)

Here’s mine – Lara said it looked like something Carmen Miranda would wear, which I took as a compliment and thought was 100% accurate!

Lisa, surprising no one, headed straight for the blush pinks and whites and added delicate movement with ivy. I’m sure Kelly, who is doing Lisa’s wedding flowers, was the least surprised of all!

Lara packed as many blooms as possible into her little urn, including beautiful tall forsythia. Morgan’s was interesting and textural, with a girly flair – just like her!

Finally, Nicole went with an interesting combination of green, kumquat orange, ruby red, and dark blue. She had to play around with the shape of hers for awhile, but I think was really happy with it in the end!

In addition to doing weddings (beautifully!), Kelly runs a comprehensive floral education program called Team Flower, which offers online, in person, group, and individual training and mentoring. If our little workshop was any indication, we can’t recommend it highly enough!

Have y’all ever taken a flower workshop? It was so fun!!
