With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I’ve been crushing on red weddings extra hard lately. Luckily, I think I got my fix with Amanda + Jared’s South Carolina celebration from 509 Photo. An added bonus: SW fave Katherine Miller planned and styled the couples’ ceremony and reception at the Gibbes Museum of Art. The bride’s structured sheath from Amy Kuschel is spot-on chic, but it’s her b’maids’ ruby red Jenny Yoo frocks that really got my heart racing. Love the fabric, the color, everything. The girls carried bright blooms from Branch Design Studio and darling clutches from BeeGee Bags that are oh-em-gee C-U-T-E! The gents’ stone-colored suits and custom Vineyard Vines ties round out a perfect Southern wedding!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We first met one early evening back in the Fall of 2005. Jared was beginning his MBA at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and I was settling into my career that had brought me to Charlottesville the year before. At a “Margarita’s By the Pool” party, we would come to find out that we had a lot in common, including mutual friends and a passion for college football (Jared was a Hokie and I was a Nittany Lion). Our friendship grew, and several months later we began to date – the rest is history!
Describe the proposal. Not long after we had made the decision to relocate to London, Jared surprised me with a weekend trip to New York City. He had planned a very detailed and meticulous proposal in Central Park revolving around a long-standing inside joke about croquet, but the weather did not cooperate. It had been pouring down rain for hours with no end in sight and Jared couldn’t wait any longer. In a moment of sweet innocence, he got down on one knee in the hotel room and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. We celebrated the entire weekend with our friends and family.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: extraordinary, revelrous and tasty.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The donut bar! We loved that our guests could take a sweet treat home with them at the end of the night.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? The venue itself is full of Southern history. The Gibbes Museum of Art first opened in the early 1900s. Our guests enjoyed perusing the galleries of “The Charleston Story”, highlighting the city’s significant people, places and periods throughout time. We also brought the flavor of the South into our cocktail menu with hors d’oeuvres that included pulled pork on sweet potato cakes, jumbo lump crab cakes and Anson Mills grit cakes topped with a shrimp and tasso gravy. Lastly, we included a truly Charleston exit to the evening with a classic horse-drawn carriage taking us away to our honeymoon suite.
