Like the best Southern events, this beach wedding was the product of an entire family’s hard work. Bonnie + Brent took advantage of their surroundings and had their guests sit on quilts that were made by generations of women in Bonnie’s family. Guests sat family-to-a-quilt and watched as Bonnie, looking cool and relaxed in her Wtoo by Watters dress, meet her barefooted hubby on the shore of Hutchinson Island. I’m crazy for the slightly boho headband Bonnie made and wore and her fluffy peony bouquet by Rainbow Gardens. And see that fabric bouquet? It’s the handiwork of the bride! Don’t forget to come back for Part II, it just keeps gettin’ better! Thanks again to Maile Lani for sharing!

Describe the proposal. Brent and I went to my hometown for a festival and rodeo. After the morning parade, we went for a picnic on the river. Once there, we lay together on a dock with our dog, Shiver. Brent had the ring on Shiver’s collar and revealed it to me after sharing his feelings with me. In a high-pitched voice he asked me to marry him, and after a few moments of shock I screamed, “Yes!”
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Cozy, relaxed and touching.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: It’s a tie between our quilts and the ceremony music. The quilts we used for seating during the ceremony were made by myself, our mothers, grandmothers and even great grandmothers – it was a way to incorporate family into the day. The ceremony music was played on acoustic guitar by a sweet friend and groomsman of ours. Years ago, when I realized Brent was “the one,” I knew I wanted to walk down the aisle to a Radiohead song that we love. I asked our friend if he would play it for us. It was a surprise for Brent and it made the moment so much more beautiful.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: After watching way too many episodes of “Say Yes to the Dress” with my maid of honor, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted – something simple and architectural. When we arrived at the boutique, it was the first dress I saw. I knew even before I tried it on that it was the one.
Describe your wedding flowers: As a landscape architect, this may have been the most difficult task. It sounds nerdy, but I love ALL plants! I ended up with wildflowers for the arrangements because they reminded me of the ones I used to make as a little girl.

Beautiful scenery and fresh colors and details make Katie + Charlie’s wedding stand out as sophisticated and refined among super-glamorous or super-themed beach weddings. White flowers from The Perfect Settings, a white cake topped with roses and baby’s breath by Thompson Cakes and a fantastic venue (including a porch overlooking the water!) at Limefish made me want to jump into these pictures by Clary Photo so I could party with the newlyweds. Katie + Charlie even had their first dance overlooking the sunset–can it get any better than that?

See all the photos from Katie + Charlie’s wedding in their Real Wedding Gallery!

What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Good Southern food! We served chicken New Orleans, garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Our signature drink was a mojito served with a green and white paper straw. Other details included mason jars that were used as flower vases and candle votives, country music, DIY programs and menu cards, and LOTS of raffia!
Describe your wedding cake: It was an all white, three-tiered round Italian crème cake decorated with lemon leaves and flowers. We displayed it on an antique wood table.
If you are comfortable responding, what range did your wedding budget fall into? $10,000 to $25,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? The table settings – everything was perfect and just how I imagined.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Our first dance overlooking the ocean at sunset and dancing with my dad to “My Girl.”
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are looking forward to our big move to Georgia from Chicago where I will begin my first job as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

Style is far from lacking in Katie + Clark’s beach wedding. Just check out the groom wearing shades on the dance floor! From the tasseled umbrellas to the chalkboard signs, Katie and her planner, Stephanie of Savoir Faire, nailed the beach-meets-glam look with the help of Florals by the Sea. Linear Park at WaterSound Beach provided the perfect backdrop for this Southern affair. I’m crazy for the sheer white tents K + C chose. They flow effortlessly with the string lights and chandelier, and you must admit, they’re gorgeous against the cobalt blue sky in the last photo. Another detail that flows effortlessly? The aesthetic of Katie’s dress and her cake display! Confections on the Coast created four tiers of cake that matched the top of Katie’s dress, while the table was outfitted in linens that mimicked the bottom of her dress. Now that’s creativity. Thanks again to photographers Paul + Mecheal Johnson for sending this beauty our way!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I knew what dress I was going after the day I called my mom and said I was coming to Nashville. I went shopping for my senior prom dress in Nashville in 2002. I walked into B. Hughes Bridal not knowing it only sold bridal gowns. I looked around and didn’t see prom dresses but I saw a Vera Wang dress and I remember thinking to myself, “I will be back to buy a dress from Vera.” Fast forward 8 years and it was the first store I walked into. At first, I didn’t see it. I had the saddest look on my face until my maid of honor she spotted the dress hidden in a corner in the window display. I immediately had it taken off the mannequin and put on me! I knew the dress was the one. I LOVE my dress and will wear it to do the dishes, vacuum and to just feel pretty every now and then.
Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted my estate table to have a row of beautiful flowers. The table had orchids, hydrangea, roses, tulips, and stock. Our other tables had a low row of arrangements of hydrangea, stock and roses. I wanted bundles of the same flower but in multiple vases of different styles and heights. It was exactly what I had described to my florist. We also had vases of Manzanita branches with small pink garden roses glued to them and it was such a beautiful but different centerpiece to keep with our rustic beach theme. Finally, we had gorgeous arrangements of cherry blossoms around our wedding cake and at our wedding entrance table.
Describe your wedding cake: I wanted my cake to look like my dress. After looking at many wedding blogs, I found linens that looked like the bottom of my dress. My cake designer, Rhonda with Confections of the Coast, did an amazing job at making the cake look just like the top of my dress, so that when you looked at the table it looked like my dress!
What range did your wedding budget fall into? $50,000-$75,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? I think our splurge would be all the flowers! Orchids aren’t cheap, but they were worth every penny!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? My daddy’s speech. It was the most amazing speech. My dad isn’t one to just talk your ear off and he talked for 15 minutes! His two stories about Clark and me were absolutely amazing and had everyone laughing hysterically and then crying.
