Style is far from lacking in Katie + Clark’s beach wedding. Just check out the groom wearing shades on the dance floor! From the tasseled umbrellas to the chalkboard signs, Katie and her planner, Stephanie of Savoir Faire, nailed the beach-meets-glam look with the help of Florals by the Sea. Linear Park at WaterSound Beach provided the perfect backdrop for this Southern affair. I’m crazy for the sheer white tents K + C chose. They flow effortlessly with the string lights and chandelier, and you must admit, they’re gorgeous against the cobalt blue sky in the last photo. Another detail that flows effortlessly? The aesthetic of Katie’s dress and her cake display! Confections on the Coast created four tiers of cake that matched the top of Katie’s dress, while the table was outfitted in linens that mimicked the bottom of her dress. Now that’s creativity. Thanks again to photographers Paul + Mecheal Johnson for sending this beauty our way!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I knew what dress I was going after the day I called my mom and said I was coming to Nashville. I went shopping for my senior prom dress in Nashville in 2002. I walked into B. Hughes Bridal not knowing it only sold bridal gowns. I looked around and didn’t see prom dresses but I saw a Vera Wang dress and I remember thinking to myself, “I will be back to buy a dress from Vera.” Fast forward 8 years and it was the first store I walked into. At first, I didn’t see it. I had the saddest look on my face until my maid of honor she spotted the dress hidden in a corner in the window display. I immediately had it taken off the mannequin and put on me! I knew the dress was the one. I LOVE my dress and will wear it to do the dishes, vacuum and to just feel pretty every now and then.
Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted my estate table to have a row of beautiful flowers. The table had orchids, hydrangea, roses, tulips, and stock. Our other tables had a low row of arrangements of hydrangea, stock and roses. I wanted bundles of the same flower but in multiple vases of different styles and heights. It was exactly what I had described to my florist. We also had vases of Manzanita branches with small pink garden roses glued to them and it was such a beautiful but different centerpiece to keep with our rustic beach theme. Finally, we had gorgeous arrangements of cherry blossoms around our wedding cake and at our wedding entrance table.
Describe your wedding cake: I wanted my cake to look like my dress. After looking at many wedding blogs, I found linens that looked like the bottom of my dress. My cake designer, Rhonda with Confections of the Coast, did an amazing job at making the cake look just like the top of my dress, so that when you looked at the table it looked like my dress!
What range did your wedding budget fall into? $50,000-$75,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? I think our splurge would be all the flowers! Orchids aren’t cheap, but they were worth every penny!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? My daddy’s speech. It was the most amazing speech. My dad isn’t one to just talk your ear off and he talked for 15 minutes! His two stories about Clark and me were absolutely amazing and had everyone laughing hysterically and then crying.

Paul and Mecheal Johnson always seem to photograph the sweetest couples and families, don’t they? Katie + Clark are no exception. Their custom invitations from The Happy Envelope (see more on those here!) set the scene for a long weekend of celebration at WaterSound Beach in Florida. Stephanie of Savoir Faire Weddings planned the party (with plenty of help from the bride herself!), and enlisted Florals by the Sea for the beautiful blooms. One of my favorite details? Katie picked out her Vera Wang dress when she was searching for something to wear to her high school prom. Eight years later, B. Hughes Bridal made her Vera dreams come true! I’m just guessing, here, but I’m thinking Katie’s bridesmaids, wearing custom LulaKate dresses designed by the bride and purchased at Bella Bridesmaid in Nashville, must have been almost as happy (sartorially speaking) as the bride herself. We’ll be back with more from Paul Johnson soon!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met on July 22, 2006. My friend Amy and I were going to a party on Saturday night. While walking down the street, a car was speeding right toward us. It pulled up, and the person inside rolled down the window and yelled “Rooney-Morris, what’s up!” I looked at the person, confused. He knew me but I didn’t know him. Amy introduced us and it turned out to be Clark. We said our hellos and then went our separate ways. Later that night, Clark turned up at the party we were at. After a very fun night of dancing to and getting to know each other, Clark called it a night. Amy and I went to another place, where to my surprise, Clark showed up again! At this point, he said he wasn’t leaving without my phone number. I was a little hesitant to give it out, but with Clark’s persuasive skills, I handed it over.
Describe the proposal. Clark’s family takes a vacation every year at the end of July to Hilton Head Island, SC. After 4 years of dating, I finally made it to the Coffey family vacation. We had dinner reservations the night after we arrived for The Sage Room. Before dinner, Clark and I took a walk on the beach. While walking, Clark said, “Hey, what’s that?” I looked to my right and saw a circle of candles with rose petals in the middle, a bottle of champagne and 2 champagne flutes. At this point, I had an idea of what was about to happen. I began to cry and kept saying “oh my gosh, oh my gosh!” Clark got down on one knee and I don’t remember a thing he said except, “Katie Morris, will you marry me?!” I, of course, said yes, grabbed Clark and would not stop hugging him.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Flawless, elated, unforgettable.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? We had sweet tea (mixed with a little lemonade and Firefly vodka), sang the SEC football song, Rocky Top, we had burlap, fried green tomato BLT’s, and crawfish to top with at the mashed potato martini bar! We had a lot of Southern people doing what Southerners do best: throwing a party every night of the wedding weekend starting on Thursday, lots of “y’alls,” blessing our hearts and family love.

Hi Doris! I believe LulaKate dresses are sold at other retailers besides Bella Bridesmaid, but I’m not positive (and unfortunately, the retail locations link on their site seems to be down!). I would try giving them a call — they should be able to help you out!

  14. avatar alisha reply

Hello there. I was wondering where you purchased your bridesmaid dresses. I absolutely love them. I am from Canada and I can’t find them anywhere. I am traveling to Myrtle Beach May 24 through May 29 and I would love to find a store in the vicinity that carries these dresses. If you can help that would be great. I would even appreciate the name of the designer or the name of the style of dress.

Thank you so much in advance for your time. I really wish I had some “southerness” in my blood. lol

Katie customized her bridesmaid dresses through LulaKate. They appear to be a mix of LulaKate’s “Zoe,” “Maggie,” “Christy,” and “Chandler” styles. There’s a store locator for LulaKate here, and it looks like the closest ones to Myrtle Beach are in Charleston. I hope that helps! Best of luck :)

[…] Katie and Clark’s‘s wedding, photographed by Paul Johnson Photography 3. Consider the weather. As with all outdoor weddings, it’s important to think about how the weather will affect your day. For example, if you’re getting married in the summer, plan to have lots of water and fans available. If it’ll be chilly (we love the idea of a winter beach wedding!), pass out pashminas and set up a hot drinks station. 4. Come up with a backup plan. A detailed backup plan is another outdoor wedding must-have. As well as planning for rain, think about what to do if you’re faced with a particularly windy day, which can affect beaches more dramatically than other outdoor areas. […]
