Southern Weddings V8 has been on newsstands for a little over a week, but we are only getting started sharing all of the goodness that is inside! (And just a tip: we truly believe that online features can never fully capture the experience of reading through the magazine from start to finish — that’s why we have a print version! There are so many little nuggets and surprises tucked throughout that can only be understood once you’re holding our girl in your hands!)

That being said, I’m so excited today to share with you another bright and colorful V8 feature: Crawfish Boil Bash! For this story, we imagined a couple whose favorite way of celebrating involves a boiled spread and all of their friends and family. That’s how they chose to celebrate their wedding, and how they hope to celebrate their anniversary for years to come!

Big hugs to Heather Hawkins for these photos and Blue Ribbon Vendor Christina Leigh Events for planning everything to perfection!

Yes, those bow ties have tiny crawfish and pots on them! Thank you, Southern Proper!

Tamara Menges pulled together colorful handfuls of flowers for our gals to carry, including ranunculus, poppies, and garden roses.

Bold Kendra Scott jewelry not only ties together a mix and match bridesmaid look, but it makes a perfect bridesmaid gift, as well!

We loved working with this real life couple, who were married earlier this year (a few months after our shoot!).

I can’t think of anything more delicious to finish off a huge boil spread than a selection of good-enough-to-be-homemade pies. “Yum” is right!

Don’t miss this colorful celebration in action, thanks to our behind-the-scenes film from Nathan Willis!

As always, if you haven’t picked up your copy yet, you can do so here or on newsstands near you!

When I was planning my wedding, I remember bridesmaid dress decisions being some of the hardest to pull the trigger on. There’s just something about asking your loved ones to spend a good chunk of money on a piece of clothing they’re not picking out that makes me swallow hard! Thankfully, there are a surplus of beautiful bridesmaid dress options these days, making it easy to find something they’ll love (but on the other hand, the variety makes narrowing finalists down even more difficult!). We love highlighting our favorites for y’all to make the search easier, and today, we’re talking shantung by Donna Morgan.

Most of y’all already know why we love Donna Morgan – their designs are fashion forward, come in tons of colors, and (best of all) ship immediately! Their line started with chiffon designs, and they still carry tons of those beauties, but we were so excited to see that they’ve branched out into shantung, too!

Shantung is a more structured fabric than chiffon, and it creates a beautiful, tailored silhouette. Donna Morgan’s shantung line includes six designs with a variety of bodice and skirt styles. My personal favorites are the Ruby and the Olive!

While the colored shantung collection is perfect for a preppy and modern brides, Donna Morgan’s gray shantung line-up is a great fit for those looking for a twist on black tie. Bridesmaids no longer need to wear long dresses for a formal feel – these beauties will fancy up whatever bridal party they’ve invited to! Think: elegant and sophisticated, a throwback to Grace Kelly.

To see the full Donna Morgan line-up, including their beautiful floral print bridesmaid dresses, be sure to check out their site!

This post is brought to you by Donna Morgan – thanks for your support of the brands that make Southern Weddings possible!

A garden full of flowers is an indicator of many things: good soil and roots, sunshine and rain, and plenty of careful tending. In the same way, the celebration of a wedding recalls a few things of its own: the love that brought the bride and groom to this day, their ability to weather good times and bad, and the community that surrounds and supports them. On a hot August day in Serenbe, Georgia, a talented team of vendors helped us bring our ode to summer’s sun-kissed hues, and the collective love that allows a romance to grow, to life. We’re so grateful to Ali Harper for capturing every detail, and Krista of Blue-Eyed Yonder for styling such a magical day!

Paper cuts were a huge source of inspiration for us. Yes Ma’am Paper Goods created this beautiful invitation suite and wildflower favor packets, using vintage botanical prints as a guide.

Our bride’s Lela Rose gown could not have been more perfect for this shoot if we designed it ourselves! We had so much fun pulling together floral-inspired fashion, including the groom’s bow tie, the floral bridesmaid dresses, and sweet flower girl dresses.

Serenbe is full of lovely views, perfect for a ceremony backdrop. A wildflower clippings toss when the bride and groom walk back up the aisle is sweet and environmentally friendly in an outdoor space.

We love this idea for creating a new tradition–pressing a flower from the bride’s bouquet into the pages of a family bible, and then passing it down for the next generation of brides to do the same.

Sun in My Belly whipped up the most colorful food and drinks, which were explained on the oversized table runner menu. Such a show-stopping piece of decor!

Making the bouquets and arrangements for a wildflower-themed editorial is a tall order, and Victory Blooms delivered in every way. We couldn’t stop raving about her creations, which this shoot truly would not have been complete without!

We can’t forget about the sweets! We served up berry ice cream and a hummingbird cake, with decorations reminiscent of the invitation suite.

Stay tuned for behind the scenes photos of this lovely day by Anna K. Photography!
