If you were thinking Stephanie + Avery’s intimate reception in the Cloister Wine Cellar looked more like a photo shoot than a real life wedding, we’d have to say we agree with you – and love it! The candlelit banquet table with elegant silver detailing just about took my breath away, but it’s the black + white seashell wedding cake (designed by Sea Island’s Executive Pastry Chef, William Schultz) that really wowed us. If you’re like us and hankering for more from this sweet South Carolina wedding, visit Ashley McCormick’s post on S + A’s big day here!

Describe your wedding flowers: My bridal bouquet was all white and consisted of my favorite flowers: anemones, lilies of the valley and peonies. My sister’s bouquet had lily of the valley and various shades of purple lisianthus, tulips, freesia and anemones to tie in the colors of the beautiful stained glass windows that were recently installed in The Cloister Chapel. The mothers carried a single bloom of gardenia, and Avery had a lily of the valley boutonnière.
Describe your wedding cake: We had an amazingly delicious two-tiered cake with vanilla geniose and California almond with buttercream icing. The cake topper and embellishments were custom made for us by Denise Sharp, who did a wonderful job incorporating our wedding monogram into the design.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? The biggest challenge was keeping the guest list to twenty guests, including us. We had more family and dear friends we would have loved to invite, but it was especially important to us that our wedding reflect who we are.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? My favorite memory was the toast Avery gave to me at the reception dinner. It was incredibly sweet and straight from his heart. I start to tear up every time I think about it. Avery says his most memorable moment was seeing me for the first time at the Avenue of the Oaks for our first look.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We look forward to our long-awaited honeymoon to the Mediterranean and many more adventures to come.

I don’t usually introduce a real wedding with a shout-out to the bride’s choice of footwear, but I have to say that Stephanie rocked. it. out. in these silver Jimmy Choos. Not surprisingly, the rest of Stephanie + Avery’s South Carolina wedding at the Cloister at Sea Island was just as lovely. The bride, in a scoop-neck Priscilla of Boston gown, and her groom exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony attended by eighteen of their closest family and friends, and photographed by Ashley McCormick. Rose Sinclair of the Sea Island team styled the couple’s fresh white blooms, and Betsy White designed their classic engraved stationery.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We were introduced to each other in 2005 by two mutual friends while we were both living in Gainesville, Florida. At the time, Avery was finishing up his last year of college at the University of Florida and I was getting ready to go to graduate school at the University of Georgia. We went out on a blind date and have been together ever since.
Describe the proposal. To celebrate five years together, Avery and I planned a trip to the Amelia Island Plantation for a long weekend. On the second night of the trip, we went to our favorite restaurant on Amelia Island. After dinner, we went down to the beach. It was nearly pitch black and very windy, but Avery insisted we continue on. We sat down and opened a bottle of sparkling wine. Avery pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. Because it was so dark, I couldn’t see the ring and at first thought he was joking. My response was, “Are you serious?” After several assurances that he was, in fact serious, I said yes.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Intimate, elegant and unique
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The reception in the wine cellar. It was the perfect location for an intimate family dinner.
What was Southern about your wedding? Definitely the location! Our wedding took place in Sea Island, a beautiful resort community on the coast of Georgia.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I was so grateful to have my mom and sister come with me to shop for my dress. We spent an exhausting day going to three bridal salons in my hometown before we found the classic gown I was looking for.

Rachel B: yay, so true! (and we know her, which is weird…never seen anyone I know on a wedding blog before!)

Love her dress, and I love the groom’s flower/boutonniere… think I may have to do something similar!
