“Tabled” as in “We’re putting together tablescapes!”  When we’re at the gorgeous Watercolor Inn & Resort in just a few short weeks we’ll be shooting three separate tables as well as a Southern-inspired fashion spread and several other color palettes for our November issue:

The first table is a vintage garden party for twelve.  Think old, mix-and-match floral china, lushly petaled garden roses and dahlias, pale pink and blue ribbons floating in the breeze, and gorgeous, swirly calligraphy.

The second tablescape will be set on a wooden dock at the edge of a lake.  There will be nautical flags snapping in the breeze, the soft glow of candlelight from tall lanterns lit up down the center of the table, and a rowboat nearby for a romantic getaway at the end of the night.

The third tablescape will be an intimate sweetheart table for two, set under the lowhanging branches of an old, gnarled tree.  Think loose, earthy arrangments in galvanized buckets and tea tins, mason jar lanterns perched on weathered stumps, and honey jar favors topped off with gingham and dotted fabric.

We’re so excited to be working with this talented lady, as well as him, him, him, and him (our quartet of fab photographers), on this project!  Get ready to follow along with us (Lara, Emily, Katharine & Whitney) on our photoshoot adventure and check back next week for another peek into the pages of our November issue!

P.S. Want to get in on the action?  Know of a great product or source we should incorporate into one of our shoots?  Email whitney {at} iloveswmag {dot} com and let us know!

I couldn’t think of a better way to end another busy week here at SW than with a South Carolina beach wedding like Samantha + Tyler’s, shot by Nate and Amanda Reynolds of Turtle Pond Photography and planned by Morgan Gallo.  Everything from the bridesmaid’s fresh, color-coordinated Caribbean blue and citrus green J. Crew dresses and fun beaded necklaces from Old Navy to the bride’s tiered Watters gown and the crisp bouquets by Amy Harvey gets me daydreaming about a sunny weekend by the sea.  We love how this couple let their personalities shine through with a self-proclaimed non-traditional wedding held at  the South Carolina Yacht Club in Hilton Head.  How much fun would it be to forego the customary first dance for a thrilling limbo competition or to swap dress shoes for flip-flops?  After induling in a few more hungry glances at that fun, geometric cake from Sheri’s Edible Designs, I’m ready to get out and enjoy beautiful North Carolina with my father who’s in town from Virginia!  What will you be doing this weekend?

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Tyler and I met in 2001 when I was a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.  I was looking for a summer job and there was a new restaurant opening near my house on campus.  I went for an interview and Tyler was the manager interviewing me.  I thought he was cute but wasn’t looking to date anyone (let alone my new manager!).  After about a month into my job, I found out that Tyler had made it known to a few people that he liked me.  We starting dating and later moved to Lafayette, IN when he opened Scotty’s Brewhouse.  Two houses and eight years later, we finally arrived at our wedding day!

Describe the proposal: There is a lion/lioness bench in Bloomington, IN that we would always sit on after dates.  One weekend in March, Tyler took me and our two dogs back Bloomington.  We walked around the campus and downtown area for awhile just enjoying the day.  Eventually, we ended up back at our favorite bench.  I didn’t think anything of it at the time but, sure enough, as we got up to leave, Tyler reached into his pocket, pulled out a ring and got down on one knee. I will always remember how shiny and sparkly my ring looked and how nervous Tyler was, even after all of those years together!

Three adjectives that describe the day are: Perfect, hilarious and yummy.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: It was surprisingly easy.  I tried on twenty dresses at five different bridal stores. Dress shopping wasn’t something I was particularly looking forward to and, seeing as how misery loves company, I recruited my sister and mother for the daunting project.  We found my dress at the very last boutique we visited.  It was perfect and I just knew it was the dress for me!

Describe your wedding flowers: Peonies, roses, hydrangeas, orchids and curly willows.

Describe your wedding cake: We chose a modern three-tiered caramel praline cake with ivory icing.  The cake was decorated with edible sugar orchids and curly willows.

Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase/verse/or line? Our favorite verse in our handwritten vows was our promise to love each other when our love is easy and when our love is hard.

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Save pictures of things you LOVE!  Save pictures of anything and everything, from bouquets and patterns to rings and cakes.  Use things that you love and that are special to you in your ceremony and reception.  Don’t do or use something just because you think you are supposed to.  We didn’t do anything traditional: our ceremony was ten minutes long, everyone wore flip-flops, there was no first dance, no head table, no caking cutting and no bouquet toss.

Best advice or most memorable comment someone made to you during the wedding celebration. We had a photo booth with a scrapbook for people to post pictures and words of advice.  Our favorite piece of advice came from our amazing friend, Melanie, who reminded us to love each other tightly yet loosely enough to be our own person.  I think this was the perfect advice for us!

What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are currently planning our honeymoon.  After that, who knows?!  We will be enjoying each other’s company and our new life together with our dogs, Emma and Hensley.

Congratulations and best wishes to Samantha + Tyler! We hope you have a blast on your honeymoon!

We’re so thrilled to have the chance to feature Jane + David’s wedding from Jonilyn Photography!  The couple selected the First Congregational Church of Long Beach as the venue for their nuptials for its Italian-inspired architecture, a particularly appropriate choice considering the newlyweds met just before Jane began studying in Italy.  While their wedding ceremony was elegant and breathtakingly romantic, doesn’t the reception at The Reef Restaurant just scream FUN?  Like Jane + David, we’re crazy about the photo booth they set up for guests to dress up and taking funny pictures with, and the bright orange heels Jane paired with her ultra-flattering Marisa gown not only added just the right splash of color and pizzazz but also matched the couple’s orange and olive wedding theme perfectly.  Don’t you just wish you could try a piece of that lemon and raspberry favored cake from Rossmoor Pastries?

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. A friend I have known since the 6th grade was David’s college roommate.  David and I didn’t know of each other until I asked my friend to help move equipment with me from my studio at school.  As luck would have it, my friend asked David to come along for the move as well.  While I immediately thought David was someone I wanted to get to know better, David, unfortunately, didn’t yet feel the same way.  Later that summer, I decided to study at an art school in Florence.  Before I left for Italy, David and I met again for our friend’s birthday party.  It was then that we finally exchange phone numbers.  Our first date was a month before I left for Italy.  Just two weeks before I left the country, we made, what most people likely would consider a rash decision and decided to become a couple.  It’s been six years now and we’ve made it through the best and worst times in our lives.  We’ve shared so much together already and I know we always will be there for one another.

What was the design inspiration for your wedding? I had lived in Italy for the first year David and I were together, so I wanted to incorporate at least one thing that had to do with Italy.  The church where we held our ceremony was perfect because it was built in the style of the Italian Florentine Renaissance.  The inside of the church was beautiful and had a dim, romantic feeling to it.  When I found the church, I based my wedding colors and design elements off it.  Our main inspiration, however, was FUN!  We wanted everyone (including ourselves!) to have fun at our wedding.

Favorite design element of your big day: My favorite detail was the warm glow I wanted throughout the ceremony and reception.  We had a lot of people at the wedding but wanted to make sure it was still a warm and intimate affair.  To create a soft, welcoming feeling, we incorporated candles into the aisle flowers at the ceremony site.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I didn’t want to go to too many places and see too many dresses because I knew that I would have been overwhelmed and ultimately indecisive.  While I wasn’t particularly picky regarding the style of the dress (so long as it didn’t make me look like a cupcake!), the one thing I knew I wanted for sure was for the dress to be ivory rather than paper white.  In the end, I chose a Marisa dress in a mermaid style.  It was a dress I never thought I would wear, but it was gorgeous and the price was just within our budget!

Describe your wedding flowers: For our flowers, we stuck with the orange and olive colors I love so much.  I had wanted to incorporate branches somewhere in the floral arrangements because David and I love to hike.  Our florist made two different centerpieces with all different shades of oranges and greens.

Describe your wedding cake: We wanted something really simple so we found an ivory three-tier rounded square with Swiss dots.  Our florist then decorated the cake with flowers and even added branches to the very top.  Of course, the best part about the cake was that it was lemon and raspberry flavored!

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Our photo booth!  Our photographer set up a backdrop and lights for guests to take photos.  I bought feather boas, big clown glasses, different hats and other props for people to use during their photo shoots.  Even our grandparents got dressed up and took pictures!

What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Continuing our growing business together and looking forward to a having a baby!

The SW girls wish Jane + David all the best with their growing business and expanding family!
