Heywood Hotel

by in on

When Emily and I booked our trip to Austin, we wanted to take advantage of being in such an incredibly creative city by staying somewhere that really reflected Austin in all its funky glory. We knew we had made the perfect decision when we pulled up to the Heywood Hotel, a quirky cool boutique hotel on E. Cesar Chavez, just a few minutes from South Congress, downtown Austin, and Lady Bird Lake. I was overjoyed to introduce Emily to my college town, and staying at Heywood Hotel was a huge part of what made our experience so much fun!

As soon as you walk into the lobby, it’s evident that this place marches to the beat of its own drum. The vibe is so relaxed and cool, from the light fixtures to the chartreuse walls that would look wild anywhere else, but seem to fit right in here. After checking in, we headed up the stairs and outside to the courtyard, a shared space for guests, complete with lounge furniture and string lights. There are only seven rooms at the hotel, so I love the idea of a family or bridal party filling them up for an Austin destination wedding! The courtyard would be a perfect place to gather together and enjoy some sweet conversation.

Each room is decorated a little bit differently (we stayed in room 6, pictured below), but each one fits right in with Heywood’s colorful, eclectic style. Two of my favorite details of the rooms were the bathrooms (all white tile with beautiful finishes, yes please!) and the little sitting area directly outside each room. It was a great spot to cozy up with a cup of coffee in the morning, and since each room’s sitting area is separated from the main courtyard by a sliding door, you could sit outside in pajamas :) Speaking of coffee, Heywood brews fresh pots of “Heywood blend” coffee (roasted in the same neighborhood!) every morning that guests are encouraged to help themselves to, and free KIND bars and fruit are available all around the hotel. Such great Southern hospitality!

A peek at a few of the other rooms–they all look so amazing!

After a long day on set of an editorial shoot and a drive from Houston, we loved relaxing at the Heywood Hotel and enjoying their decor, amenities, and the little surprises sprinkled throughout the property. They clearly aim to delight their guests and give them a true feel for the city. Whether you’re honeymooning in Austin or just visiting on vacation, I highly recommend Heywood for a really fun, boutique experience!
