We’re back with more love for the beyond-awesome sponsors of Southern Weddings magazine!  We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback about the November issue, but one thing we were thrilled to hear was how much everyone loved the ads this time.  We couldn’t agree more: the newest issue is dotted with some truly beautiful ads and we are so grateful to be working with these talented vendors!  Thank you to each of our advertisers who helped make this issue a little more fabulous:

Coren Moore

Finally!  A brides and maids collection for the true Southern bride!   Classic shapes in fresh, fun colors and ultra-Southern fabrics (think seersucker, eyelet and silk shantung) make the Coren Moore frocks an easy choice for oceanfront ceremonies and sophisticated soirees alike.  We loved the Coren Moore brides + maids collection so much, we just had to feature their frocks in our fabulous WaterColor feature.  Peruse the entire Coren Moore line here!

Rae Leytham Photography

SW loves us some Rae Leytham Photography – so much so that we made sure to feature their work in our premier issue!  A husband and wife duo defying the typical photographer stereotype, Wes + Rae Leytham have photographed weddings from Hawaii to Savannah to beautiful upstate New York.  Famous for the energy they bring to every wedding, Wes +Rae have worked diligently to develop a skill that uses cameras and lighting to make their images works of art.  Make sure you check out their website here and follow their ultra-fun blog here!

Ann Whittingon Events

Ann Whittington’s slogan – Events for Rockstars, Royalty and You – says it all!  A twenty-year veteran of the hospitality industry with planning and managerial experience at The Ritz Carlton, The Lancaster Hotel and Brennan’s Restaurant, Ann Whittington has produced events for European royalty, heads of state, and sports and stage celebrities, and now she’s ready to plan your wedding!  What makes Ann among the best in the business is her unique ability to match the style of an event to her clients’ personalities.  Learn more about Ann’s services and design inspiration here!

Nine Photography

Next we have Nine Photography, based out of Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin.  Their blog, talk sweet, is a fun read and really shows how well they get to know their couples.  Visit it here and their website here!  See our previous post about Nine Photography here.

Lo Boheme

Based out of a 1920’s bungalow in San Diego, California, Lo Boheme specializes in one-of-a-kind accessories.  Offering both custom and ready-to-wear pieces to an international clientele through their online shop, Lauren (“Lo”) and Josh Christensen create unique yet wonderfully wearable hairpieces that quickly become family treasures.  Check out Lo + Josh’s sweetly sophisticated collection here or find the perfect accessory for your big day in their etsy shop!

Brooke Schwab Photography

We like Brooke Schwab Photography.  A lot.  Modern, romantic and emotional, Brooke Schwab’s style is a SW and fan favorite alike.   (A quick peek at her website and blog quickly shows why!)  To learn more about Brooke and her amazing work, visit our first Sponsor Love post here.

Shelby Peaden Events

Shelby is one of the sweetest, most capable planners you will ever have the pleasure of working with.  We should know – she was a lifesaver at the WaterColor shoot for our November issue!  Every time we needed something (paperclip, plastic bag, pair of scissors…) the item in question always seemed to materialize in the well-stocked trunk of her car!  We know she would be even more prepared on your wedding day.  Shelby is based in Pensacola, FL and available for both full planning and day-of coordination.

New FTC Regulations: Explained

by in News on

Here at Southern Weddings, we like to keep you informed of the goings-on not only in our little office and the wedding world at large, but also in anything that might affect how we do business.  This, of course, includes the happenings across the blogosphere.  Since the SW blog is a big (okay, huge) part of our life (and hopefully yours, too!), we thought it important to share some newly-announced Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations that will change how blogs do business in the upcoming year.

Effective today (December 1), any website (including blogs!) receiving money for a post must disclose that they received compensation for the post.  For example, if a photographer is paying a wedding blog to write about or feature them, said wedding blog has to disclose that fact to their readers.  Similarly, if a blog receives a complimentary product to review, the blog is compelled to let readers know they received the product for free.  Additionally, consumers may no longer describe unusual results in a testimonial (even with a disclaimer noting results as “not typical”); rather, they can only disclose the results or reviews of a service or product that are typical

The FTC’s new regulations also have consequences for how websites recognize their print and online advertisers.  Not only must bloggers disclose when and where their membership is paid advertising, they also have to disclose any featured vendors or contributors in editorial posts who are also advertisers.

Why the sudden concern for websites properly noting paid sponsor posts and recognizing advertisers, even in editorial features?  Simply, the FTC wants sites to be honest and upfront about money changing hands and what consumers might reasonably expect from certain products or services.

What does all this mean for you?  As a reader and prospective consumer, you’ll now be able to tell whether a blog genuinely supports or recommends a particular vendor or if they are being compensated for their online coverage of that vendor.  Genius!

Since Southern Weddings always has chosen not to take part in paid sponsor posts, you can trust that any vendor we highlight, feature or recommend really does deserve our praise and really is among the best in the industry.  That’s not to say we never feature real weddings from some of our advertisers; to the contrary, we think our advertisers are among the most talented in the business and are always eager to share the best of their work with you.  But we promise to always let you know whenever a featured vendor (be it a photographer, florist, wedding planner, etc.) is also a member of our advertising family. Think of it as an official SW seal of approval!

Questions?  Comments?  Concerns?  Free hugs?  Feel free to email me at katharine {at} iloveswmag {dot} com.

Happy December, y’all!

P.S. if we’re gonna make you read a boring post, we might as well put in an awesome image, right? Done.  image credit :: jeff newsom
