When I was choosing wedding details, a thought I often had was “Will I be able to pass this down someday?” From my dress to my veil to my jewelry, how heirloom-worthy something was became a filter I used right alongside how well something matched my wedding aesthetic. Judging by the interview we send every bride we feature, I’m willing to bet that many of y’all are the same way!
So what makes something heirloom-worthy? To me, there are three criteria: 1. Amazing quality that will stand the test of time, 2. A timeless style that will be just as beloved in twenty or fifty years as it is today, and 3. A story behind it that can be passed down right alongside the item itself. As you can see, these criteria don’t necessarily mean wedding day jewelry, though they certainly can! The SW gals recently pored over the Bailey Banks & Biddle bridal catalog to choose our favorite pieces that we think future generations would love as much as we do.
First up, engagement rings! I think these are some of the most common, as well as some of the most meaningful, items that are passed down through a family. Bailey Banks & Biddle carries nine different engagement ring designers, so it’ll be easy for your beau to pick something that’s a perfect fit for your style. Your “something new” today will be a gorgeous “something old” for your future daughter or granddaughter!

Second to engagement rings, I think wedding day jewelry is one of the most special things you can pass down. I love these dainty earrings Jess chose as her favorite–they’d go with so many styles of dresses, and since they’re so lightweight, they’d be perfect for dancing the night away in!
Jess’ pick: Honora Rope Classic Earrings
Thankfully, your wedding day isn’t the only opportunity to pick up an heirloom-worthy piece–anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, and “just because” gifting days are all equally appropriate times. Who wouldn’t love receiving one of the beauties below, both now as a new gift, or in a few years as a family treasure?
