Southern Weddings

Every year, we do our best to fill our annual print edition with advice and tips that will help you not only plan your wedding, but also (more importantly), help you and your fiancé prepare for marriage. We ask every couple we feature how they go about preparing for life after the big day, and were so happy to include many of their answers in V8. Please enjoy their words of wisdom every Sunday here on Southern Weddings!

Tanja Lippert

My favorite way we planned for our marriage was at the same time a very practical wedding planning “to do”: writing our vows. As we crafted them, my husband and I tried very hard to only include promises that, with the grace of God, we could actually KEEP–not things like, “I will never be angry with you.” We saw our vows not just as pretty words, but as promises that would shape what our marriage would look like. It was a really great exercise in dreaming together about what was most important to us, and the ways we would work toward a life together shaped around those things.
