Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: September 2014

I love when you can tell how smitten a couple is with one another just by the way they look at each other, or the way they light up when they’re together. Now I haven’t met today’s Sweet Tea Sunday couple, Angela and Henry, in person, but from the way Angela talks about her beau of almost 32 years and the picture our Blue Ribbon Vendor, Rachel May, snapped of them for V6, I can only imagine how much their love must radiate in person!

Rachel May

Wedding date: September 25, 1982
Children? Two children and one granddaughter
When did you know he was the one? I knew Henry was the man I would marry when I was in the ninth grade. We are high school sweethearts.
What is your favorite wedding memory? When the doors of the church opened, I immediately locked eyes with Henry. I will never forget how I felt looking into his eyes as I walked down the aisle.
What is the secret to your marriage? Always keeping God first.
What’s your favorite thing to do together? Although we enjoy our one-on-one time and date nights, we get the most joy spending time with our granddaughter. She has been the best gift and we live for her weekend visits.
What is your favorite memory related to Southern food or family? Ever since we were teenagers, we’ve spent Thanksgiving celebrating with both of our families. We are blessed that our families are very close and we are able to fellowship with both sides during the holidays.
What is your best marriage advice? Remember that you’re a team and work together as one. Live each day like it’s your last, and love hard!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Labor Day earlier this week may have meant the unofficial end of summer, but we’re in denial, and the 90+ degree temperatures this week seem to agree with us! I must admit, however, that knowing fall is coming causes more than a few butterflies in the Southern Weddings office, because that means the launch of our newest issue is right around the corner. I’ve been looking back at pictures on Instagram that y’all shared of getting V6 in the mail or finding it in stores, and it makes me positively giddy to think about seeing all of those pictures with V7 in two months! If you haven’t already, be sure to preorder your copy in the Southern Weddings Shop to be one of the first to see what we’ve been working hard on all year long.

Cally and Robert‘s at-home wedding was sweet and sophisticated.

Madison and Brady fell in love with their charming farm venue from the first photo they saw of it.
Jennifer and Justin filled their wedding with meaningful details that are oh so Southern.
We couldn’t stop smiling at Mary and John‘s joyful wedding film!

I wasn’t able to be at Bryant Denny last weekend, but like any good Southern girl, I still spent my Saturday wearing my team colors, texting elephant emojis, and introducing my baby belle to a good ol’ Southern tradition: college football!!! Y’all know crimson and white runs deep in my family, and y’all even knew which bouquet was mine at the SW Retreat based on my team alliance! We frequently sign our emails with college rally cries here in the Southern Weddings office, so with a new game day on the horizon, we thought it would be the perfect time to share how these SEC-loving couples incorporated their allegiances into their wedding days! Roll Tide, y’all!

What a fun round up of photos! I’m a UGA Bulldog living in the Triangle now, so its nice to see some red & black in the middle of all this Carolina blue! My husband’s groom’s cake was a GA Bulldog with a Duke hat (since we were heading up to Durham for him to start Law School this fall), and everyone loved it!
