Kelly and Ted’s Palmetto Bluff wedding was full of soft and sweet details, from pastel flowers to the most charming chapel ceremony. Sentimental details, like the “starstruck” ceremony references (Ted proposed during a blue moon!) and bits of lace from Kelly’s grandmother’s gown wrapped around her bouquet, made this destination wedding feel right at home. Hugs to Kay English for sharing!

Kelly and Ted’s invitation suite, designed by Reverie, featured cafe lights in gold foil with gray letterpress on blush Arturo paper. Gray envelopes were calligraphed in blush-colored ink. The cafe lights served as a hint of the celebration to come, and cafe lights were overhead at both the welcome dinner and the cocktail hour on the wedding day.

Kelly’s bouquet featured cafe au lait dahlias, garden roses, anemones, ranunculus, chrysanthemums, silver brunia, gilded seeded eucalyptus, sword ferns, dusty miller, and lemon leaf. Her bouquet was wrapped in velvet ribbon and a swatch of lace from her grandmother’s wedding gown. A gold pin– treasured by her late grandfather– was pinned to the ribbon. The groom’s boutonniere featured white ranunculus, silver brunia, gilded seeded eucalyptus and a sprig of rosemary.

The ceremony was held in a little white chapel, and we surprised guests with a full gospel choir, singing and clapping their way down the aisle just when the doors opened and guests expected to see the bride! Kelly was then escorted by her dad down the aisle to the music of the choir, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the chapel.

As the sun set, guests enjoyed cocktails under cafe lights strung between big oak trees dripping in Spanish moss. Their semi-circle-shaped bar and vintage furniture lounge under a black and white striped tent were enjoyed by all (as were the ‘his’ and ‘hers’ southern signature drinks!). Big, blush cafe au lait dahlias in mercury glass vases graced the tables covered in mint Irish linens.

When guests were escorted inside for the reception, they were greeted with miniature bourbon bottles with hand-calligraphed escort tags. Rustic farm chairs and peach Irish linen runners were complemented by long wooden boxes filled with Kelly’s favorite blooms and accented with mercury glass. Instead of a cake topper, Kelly and Ted’s cake featured individually-cut sugar letters placed around each tier that read, “Once in a blue moon, something extraordinary happens.” Guests danced to a live band, as well as a DJ, and they bid farewell to Kelly and Ted via a sparkler send-off before enjoying s’mores around a bonfire.

How did you create your his/hers drink signs? Is it vinyl lettering, or printed on a specific kind of paper? It looks lovely, very professional.

I’m so excited to share today’s double-feature with you, because I’ve had the good fortune of visiting its gorgeous venue! Kelly + Ted chose to hold their wedding weekend at the Inn at Palmetto Bluff, a magical venue in South Carolina. Think I’m exaggerating? Their rehearsal dinner spot boasts a multi-level tree house! Combined with an oyster roast, a live bluegrass band, and dinner under the stars, these two welcomed their guests in true Lowcountry style.

Be sure to check back soon for their Palmetto Bluff wedding, also photographed by Kay English!

We welcomed guests with a Lowcountry Boil Welcome Dinner on Saturday night, under the stars on the May River. The Lowcountry Boil featured string lights, white pennant banners, flowers in oyster cans, and a live bluegrass band. People danced, people sang, and the kids had fun climbing in the treehouse and coloring a mural for the bride and groom.

Today’s Sweet Tea Sunday couple is not only close to our hearts–they’re also close to our office! Right down the road from us in Raleigh, Nancy and Will Ray are some of the sweetest people we have the privilege of knowing and working with. Nancy is the gal behind Nancy Ray Photography (she shot Song of the South in V6, Something Old, Something New in V5, and both V6 and V5 surcees!), and Will is a finance coach, youth minister, and second shooter for NRP. Knowing about their passion for marriage and their commitment to always learning, we were so excited to hear advice from the Rays. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Walters and Walters

To quote Timothy Keller in The Meaning of Marriage: “Marriage is glorious but hard. It’s a burning joy and strength, and yet it is also blood, sweat, and tears, humbling defeats and exhausting victories… and yet there’s no relationship between human beings that is greater or more important than marriage.” Even in just five short years, this quote rings so true. So let us begin by saying this: marriage is worth fighting for!

A few things that have kept our marriage strong and vibrant? Setting goals and choosing experiences that we can accomplish and enjoy together. We love to sit down over a home-cooked meal and dream of our next big thing–whether it is reaching a financial goal, sponsoring a child in need overseas, or planning travels in the near future. We love thinking big-picture and planning ways we can impact others. We both have individual interests, and it’s just as important to be mutually supportive of those. But we are also intentional about experiencing things we enjoy together!

In addition, we always strive to constantly improve and never settle in our relationship. We read all kinds of books together, and discuss them–including marriage books. We always want to know each other more deeply, understand what makes the other person tick, and improve our relationship continually. By accomplishing goals together, choosing experiences together, and learning of life and one another together, you can only strengthen your marriage relationship.
