Pen Weddings made a perfect song choice and combined it with spot-on editing to create a film that is simply beautiful. Of course, it’s easier to make something heartfelt when you have such good material to work with, and Sarah + Rick definitely did, from the touching words at Elyse + Andre’s ceremony to the sentimental footage from Elyse’s childhood home to the bride’s gorgeous Christos gown (just like me!). And keep an eye out for the father daughter dance — it actually made me tear up, something which does NOT happen often! (Sarah admitted that it’s one of just two that have made her cry in her career, too!)

From the bride, Elyse:

When I first imagined my wedding, I suppose I though about the classic things most brides do. What dress will I wear? What color flowers do I want? Tux or Suit? Band or DJ? I didn’t want to find myself, a year later, browsing Pinterest and regretting every choice I had made. After all, you only get one shot at this and everything must be PERFECT.

Ultimately, that mindset was only setting me up for a stressful and disappointing day, filled mostly with bridezilla meltdowns and lots of eye rolling from my groom. When the guests had gone home, the flowers had wilted, and the white dress placed on a shelf in the closet – would those things still be what were most important to me? No.

Thankfully, I had a change of heart. Instead of focusing on perfection, I chose to focus on love.

Today, when I remember our wedding, my mind doesn’t race with all of the countless details. Instead, I think about the small, quiet, intimate moments that made that day so special. The laughter of my best friends as we reminisced about our childhood, the nervous smile of my future husband as he waited to see me for the first time, the whisper of a tear in my dad’s eye as he held me on the dance floor. These are the moments I remember when I think about that day.

Overall, Andre and I really just wanted our wedding to be about love – the love the Lord has for us, the love we share with each other, the love of our friends and family, and all of the moments during our special day where love still dwells.

Pen Weddings is a delightful member of our Blue Ribbon Vendor Directory!

Awww…this video is so sweet. I would love to do something like this for my big day. It really gives you a glimpse into the details around the big day, but also the day itself, and what it provides to those involved. But the thing that really stood out to me most was the message below it from the bride, specifically the part that read…

“Thankfully, I had a change of heart. Instead of focusing on perfection, I chose to focus on love.”

I don’t know why, but that struck a chord in me and is something every bride should feel about their big day. Don’t stress the details, because in the end, that’s not what you remember, and it’s definitely not the most important part.

Hello everyone and happy Friday! March has officially arrived, and with it the promise of warmer days ahead (it was particularly lovely this Wednesday!). Before I dive into the events of the past week, allow me to introduce myself! My name is Emily L., the fifth Emily who has had the opportunity to work in this office! This spring I have been fortunate enough to be an intern at Southern Weddings. Being a Blue Devil, I have finally supplied Emily with an ally.

On Monday, Emily taught us of the (delightfully) strong scent of the gardenia, and their representation of grace and hospitality.

Jen, our Southern Bride of the Month, is planning a black tie and fun-filled event at the St. Regis in Atlanta.

Yesterday was Emily’s birthday! In honor of her big heart, we asked y’all to complete a random act of kindness.

Nicole finished up our month of love letters by writing to her future bow tie-wearing puppy. Read it here.

We love real weddings!

Savannah + Henry’s magnolia-filled Charleston wedding made our hearts melt, as did the story of their long-distance relationship. See it here.

Our very own Kristin + Kyle had a magnificent wedding right here in Chapel Hill! We are lucky that their love for each other was so beautifully captured. See it here.

Kristin + Travis had a Southern-inspired wedding in Vermont. We especially loved learning about “The Moover.” See it here.

Before you head out, be sure to check out the adorable engagement session from Teale Photography on today’s Facebook Friday!

Have a great weekend!

My favorite thing in the SW shop is the Oh My Stars I Love You Print! How sweet and girly and pretty is that? I can see it hanging in my bedroom now.

The ranks of our Blue Ribbon Vendors have veritably exploded over the past few months, so definitely take a look at your state if you haven’t in a while! In the meantime, we’re taking a few minutes to introduce you to ten new members whose work and businesses have so impressed us.

2+Hue Designs carries some of the most beautiful rental items I’ve ever seen. Though they have lots of vintage pieces, I love that their style is more refined and tailored than most. Florida brides, check them out!

Anna K Photography is based in Georgia and specializes in happy brides! Her cheerful, clean images would make anyone smile.

Music can be one of the hardest vendor decisions to make, since unless you’ve attended one of their events before, it’s hard to truly know what you’re getting. That’s where recommendations come in super handy, and we can say with confidence that we’d recommend Bruce Pike Productions for DC and Maryland couples!

Christina Gillon’s portfolio is filled with some of the most beautiful wedding designs I’ve seen. Her work has such a cohesive look to it that, as a bride, I’d feel supremely confident in her style and track record. Emerald Coast brides, look her up!

Elizabeth Ray’s photography has a Southern glam edge to it with a bit of vintage style. She is based in Austin but often travels to New Orleans.

I love Georgia-based Flawless Finish’s simple philosophy: you should look like the best version of YOU on your big day. Amen!

Gertie Mae’s Floral Studio has a vintage-sounding name (after the owner’s grandmothers!), but their designs are lovely and fresh. They are based in Clarksville, Georgia.

The wonderful Heather Roth is based in Missouri; I love the depth and classic style of her images.

Holly Chapple creates the sort of lush, textured bouquets brides dream about! She is based in Leesburg, Virginia and is an Editors’ Pick for her past print work with SW!

Julia Wade captures honest, real, and heartfelt images. She is based in North Carolina.

That’s just scratching the tip of the iceberg, my friends, so be sure to hop over to the full Directory to see what we have in store! Vendors, if you’re interested in applying, just fill out this form and Kristin will be in touch.

Have any of y’all worked with any of these lovely folks? We’d love to hear in the comments!
