Fun fact: my mother’s lace wedding gloves sit in a box in my closet. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t even know they’re there! (Hi Mom!) Every once in awhile I put them on just for fun. Though I probably won’t be wearing gloves at my own wedding, I’m excited about the idea of spending the morning of my wedding day with her. That’s why I’m always partial to photos of moms buttoning their daughter’s dresses, zipping zippers and adjusting veils. The photo of Turner and her mom by Stephen Devries below is sweet, and it keeps getting better with the images of her bridesmaids waiting and the wedding party praying. I could rave for days about the ruffle-sleeved bridesmaids’ dresses at Turner + Forrest’s wedding or her all-white bouquet, but those black and white photos are really the ones that tug at my heart strings.

P.S. Speaking of photos, do any of these look familiar to you? Emily used a few in her Bright Winter Beach inspiration board!

How did the two of you meet? (From the groom) After moving to Atlanta, I began running with a friend who told me about Younglife. The area director was Randy and he asked me to lunch at Ted’s Montana grill to meet Turner Outlaw and discuss volunteering with Younglife. To be honest, I was surprised when I arrived at lunch and found out that Turner was not only a girl, but a beautiful blonde. We found a connection immediately and found that we shared many common friends. In the middle of lunch, Randy excused himself from the table, a move that we later found out was intended to allow us to stoke our romantic flame and ended up being quite a success. Our relationship began as a friendship centered on our ministry, and I am so grateful that this is how God brought us together.
Describe the proposal. (From the groom) In January 2011, we both had found jobs in Tampa and decided that the Lord was calling us to pursue a life in this new city where we could finally be together. We both immediately felt at peace in our new city and began building community and a life together. May rolled around in Tampa, and Turner officially moved to town on our anniversary. I full year had gone by, and amid all the turmoil of 3 jobs and 2 moves, one thing remained a constant in my life: Turner. Our love had grown so much over the course of a year and I realized that there was no one else on earth that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I spent the next few months planning and visiting her family, and on July 13, I asked Turner to be my wife at sunset on the Gulf of Mexico.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Southern, holy, and unique.
In what month did you get married? November
How many guests attended your wedding? 280
Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted cotton to be associated in the flowers to give it a Southern and natural feel.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The lanterns in the trees.

Hi Justine! Forrest + Turner’s invites came from the Sweet Peach Paper Company. Their contact was Jenni (sweetpeachpaper at gmail.com). I hope that helps!

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Y’all I finally threw out my old 2011 calendar! Though I always forgot it was there, my desk does seem a bit emptier without it. Any suggestions on what to replace it with? I’m thinking a small milk glass vase and a pretty flower.

Amidst my desk-decorating crisis, we did put out quite a few features this week! A blast of citrus was a great way to start our morning. Emily’s Lemon Squeeze inspiration board has us dreaming of nuptials in a lemon grove.

We welcomed Southern Bride of the Month, Elizabeth to the blog! She’s planning a classic Georgia wedding with her fiance Joe.

We love seeing monograms in unexpected places. That’s why we thought the monogrammed flower girl sash in Emily’s Southern Spotting was adorable!

Bonus Southern Spotting this week! This romantic surprise breakfast was the perfect way to ease wedding day nerves without stepping on any traditions.

Emily walked us through her bouquet ideas as she plans her own wedding. Color, wild and usual elements, ribbon and blackberries are among her inspiration!

Camille + Mark’s V4 Real Wedding was an intimate gathering that boasted bright details. We love how the couple chose to go all out with the small touches! See their wedding here and here.

We rounded up the winners for our Design*Sponge at Home giveaway, our Heys USA giveaway and our CREAM event tickets giveaway! It’s like late Christmas!

This week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery was Meredith + John. We love how the couple chose floral accents that were ethereal and natural.

Real Weddings are the peanut butter to our jelly:

Elise + Matt’s pink and turquoise wedding was a glamorous affair complete with fireworks! See it here and here.

Good new for the weekend:

For you readers in the New York and Brooklyn area, Williamsbrides, an alternative, interactive wedding event, is taking place on February 12 at The Space at Fifty North Third in Williamsburg! Couples will get the chance to sample hors d’oeuvres and Brooklyn-inspired cocktails, enjoy live music performances and meet the talented New York wedding experts. For more information about the event and how to get tickets, visit their site.

If you’re in the Beverly Hills area, St. Pucchi will be having a bridal show at Panache Bridal Salon today through Sunday. Brides will have the opportunity to meet with the designer for a private consultation on Saturday and will receive a special discount on gowns. See Panache’s site for more information!

Hi there, vendors! Makeup artist, Pamela Lesch is looking to make one of her 2012 goals a reality. She wants to do makeup for an Asheville, NC wedding and be part of a team of professionals who helps make an Appalachian wedding into a dreamscape. We’ve worked with Pamela before on our Williamsburg Polo shoot and our Southern Exits shoot and we love her! Want to help out? Check out her blog post here.

Big hugs and shouts outs to the newest members of the Southern Weddings sponsor family, DawnCorrespondenceand Seaside Rental Agency and our newest Blue Ribbon Vendor Ben Sasso!

Have a lovely weekend, my friends! Who else is seriously considering a day trip to the beach like I am?

P.S. If you’re a winter person, add this event to your calendar: Blowing Rock, North Carolina is having their 14 annual Winterfest! Chili cook-offs and a polar bear plunge among other fun events — sounds like a blast!

It’s usually around this time, a month after the holidays, when my parents surprise me with another Christmas gift. You know, that one that they hid so far back in the closet they forgot it existed and never wrapped? Does that happen to anyone else?

In celebration of this (unofficial) tradition, we’re rounding up the winners of some of our recent giveaways and some from before the holidays! Consider this a late gift from us at Southern Weddings.

We’re still spotting V4 on shelves throughout the city, though the stacks are getting mighty low! Sierra and I were giddy when we saw the glossy mag for the first time on our way to the Design*Sponge book signing. We asked you to tell us where you spotted V4 for the chance to win Grace Bonney’s Design*Sponge at Home!

Congrats to winner Lizzie who said, “I just picked up my copy at the Barnes and Noble in New Hope Commons in Durham! I wish I could’ve picked it up from the Southpoint location so I could have seen you. I have been gushing to everyone how it is my new favorite wedding magazine!!”

Just about a month ago, we launched our fabulous new feature, the Honey List! We’re so excited for y’all to flip through our curated list of the best honeymoon spots in the South and beyond. To celebrate and to prepare all you newlyweds for wonderful honeymoon, we gave away a Heys USA carry-on-friendly luggage piece!

Congratulations to Sonia Marie whose ideal honeymoon spot was Hawaii!

We love having events to look forward to and we’re thrilled to be able to give one of you lucky readers the chance to attend the CREAM event in Austin! Food, fun and dancing will abound, so we asked you to tell us about the dancing shoes you’d wear to the CREAM.

Our winner is Madi, who said, “As a Texas girl, what else would I wear but a pair of my best boots for dancin’?”

Congratulations all you giveaway winners! Be on the lookout for an email from me soon!

Didn’t win this time? Don’t worry, we’ve got plenty more giveaways lined up!
