Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: August 2011

Howdy, ladies! We have a really fun week coming up, where we’ll be unveiling the top ten finalists in our first Ultimate Southern Challenge. A few weeks back we asked y’all to submit your best ideas for the most Southern and inspiring escort card design, and we were blown away by the submissions! We’ve decided to post the top ten this week, and the winner (who gets Southern Weddings bragging rights!) will be determined by reader popularity (i.e. the number of comments on their post) and the opinion of the SW editors. So let’s get cracking!

First up is photographer and all around crafty gal Emily Steffen, who submitted adorable homemade barbecue sauce and spice rub escort cards!

From Emily:

I imagined a backyard wedding with the couples’ favorite food and desserts to share! So, why not use their favorite BBQ sauce and rub to double as a gift and escort card for the guests?

Materials: vintage milk jars, corks (JoAnn Fabrics), small baggies for spice rub (JoAnn Fabrics), paper for printed tags, twine or ribbon of choice, barbecue sauce (family recipe), spiced seasoning rub (family recipe)

Thank you so much, Emily! Your escort card idea sounds absolutely delicious. Readers, if you love Emily’s idea, please chime in in the comments! This isn’t really voting, per say, so you’re welcome to comment on more than one finalist.

We’ll be back with our next ideas soon!

Kirby {Colors of Honey}: I love this idea. We are actually doing this for our wedding. My fiancé makes his own BBQ sauce that he calls Laurens Sauce. Does anyone know where to get jars that we could use for this?

Southern Weddings Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Howdy, y’all! Thank you so much for bearing with us as we upgrade our site to bring you constant wedding-awesome! We’ve been busy bees producing content for you — we’re so excited! Let’s take a look at the round-up!

Emily’s Southern Spotting directed our eyes toward a gorgeous gardenia bouquet. The Southern bloom was paired with peonies. We think the result is lovely!

We’re brought a party to the blog with a fiesta-inspired color palette! This week’s sunset reds and gulf coast corals matched Emily’s Tex Mex inspiration board and makes us want to salsa all night long.

Even more fiesta flair showed up the blog with the Desiree Dawn inspiration shoot. The bright colors, latin infusions and tropical elements are a fresh take on South Florida wedding style.

August’s Southern Bride of the Month, Alissa, shared the details of her wedding planning and the super-cute story of her engagement to fiance Blake!

We took a trip down memory lane with this week’s featured Real Wedding Gallery. Ashley + Judd had a glamorous and impeccably styled wedding. See it all in their gallery!

This week’s Real Southern Wedding:

High school sweethearts, Meghan + Chris stole our hearts with family-made details, from the quilts to the cake. They even had some farm animals attend! See it here and here.

Don’t you love good news?

One of our awesome sponsors, Minted is now creating business cards! We think they’re perfect for handing out your information to numerous vendors as you plan your wedding. Minted is so excited about the launch that they’re giving away 25 free cards just for registering on their site!

We’re so for our friends at Ashley Brooke Designs, they just launched their pretty new shop! Hurry over and check things out–there’s free shipping if you act fast!

Now let’s end the Round-Up with an awesome photo from Kellie Kano. Way too much fun!

Happy weekend, y’all!

Sponsor Love

by in Main, Sponsor Love on

Hi, my Southern belles! I have three lovely sponsors to introduce you to before the week is over.

Shannon Cunningham shoots weddings in “Austin, the Texas Hill Country, and beyond”! I love that, don’t you? I also love her knack for capturing the unplanned, emotional, sweet moments between couples and their wedding guests (like the one above!) that inevitably unfold but aren’t always recorded. You can see more of Shannon’s lovely work on her blog and site!

Blue Dove Studio specializes in handmade jewelry for your wedding day (or, really, just any old day!). Her pieces are inspired by nature, and she LOVES custom orders. A few of my favorites are above, but you can check out many more examples in Blue Dove’s Etsy shop!

Last but certainly not least we have Camille Deann, a portrait and wedding photographer based in Georgia. The shots above are actually from Camille’s very own wedding reception! I couldn’t resist the shot of that banana pudding — so Southern! Actually, I should say that these photos are from Camille’s second, at-home reception — you’ll have to wait a bit to see the main event (hint hint!). In the meantime, you can see more of Camille’s work on her blog.

Interested in joining the Southern Weddings family? We are always accepting online advertisers, but there are only a few days left to reserve your spot in V4, our next print edition. Just fill out this form and Whitney will be in touch with a few special offers!

We’re also accepting applications for our Blue Ribbon Vendor section — the contact form is the place to get all the details on that, too!
