Weekly Round-Up

by in Main on

Hello fellow weekend-lovers! The past two weeks have been big for us. We celebrated thetwo year anniversary of our very first issue and published our big news! All the excitement might have crashed our servers. So are you ready for all the great stuff we’ve rounded up? I hope so!

Last week was a big one in giveaway history – the Chaviano Couture custom dress giveaway gave us the chance to read some of your gorgeous ideas! You voted and the winner was posted! And did we mention that you get a fabulous deal, too? If you order a Chaviano Couture dress before January 31, you get 20% off!

Lara’s giving away an Xoelle bowtie and two tickets to the Airplanes and Blazers party! The WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) Convention draws thousands of photographers and attendees who will be taking over Las Vegas this year. You can find Lara there with The Total Package, Making Things Happen and at the Airplanes and Blazers party. Want tickets? Go to the original post and tell us what you want to wear.

Loving Emily’s Handmade Finds and Paper Picks? Here’s another bound-to-be-favorite: her Southern Spotting. Emily will be featuring the charming Southern details you want for your wedding on her new column. Last week, the collegiate banner updated the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” chair signs.

Another new and fabulous feature: Emily’s Get the Look feature which shows you where to find the unique details from the weddings we post like Chelsey + Janin’s cupcake flags and lavender bouquets.

Even though I’m not planning a wedding anytime soon, I can still appreciate this: a whole barrel full of sites are appearing lately that cater to brides-to-be. Boutiques are now creating websites that show off their designer dresses, accessories and new trends. Even if you’re just looking for ideas, boutiques like Rue La La, The Aisle New York, and Gilt Groupe have sites dedicated to showing you their wedding looks.

That’s the Round-Up this week! Go forth and enjoy the weekend. I’ll see you next Friday!

We know lots of you pretty ladies are recently engaged, and so decided it was high time to feature another engagement or two. Speaking of “high time,” meet Natalie + Jantzen, who had a high flying time with Nancy Ray at their recent photo shoot! The historic home pictured belonged to Jantzen’s grandfather, and now belongs to Jantzen’s whole family. It’s where his mother grew up with her — wait for it — 26 brothers and sisters!!

Jantzen and many of his family members have a passion for aviation — there’s even a runway in front of the house! No wonder, then, that Jantzen’s uncle decided to pop in to the session with his plane for a few more photo opportunities!

One more awesome fact about this couple? From Nancy’s blog: “Natalie told me that when Jantzen proposed, he gave her tickets to the Oprah Show! She has always wanted to be at an Oprah show live (it was on her “bucket list”), and since this was her last season, her sweet fiancé made it happen. Here’s the kicker: she attended Oprah’s show called “A Fairytale Wedding.” The audience was filled with hand-picked brides from all over the country, and each of them left with a free honeymoon and a Vera Wang dress!

How’s that for a fabulous start to an engagement? Congratulations to Natalie + Jantzen — thanks for allowing us to share your photos!

Wait, what’s that in the sky?

Thanks again to Miss Nancy Ray for sharing this session with us! See more on her blog here and here.

I am always amazed at how passionate so many of our readers are about voting for finalists in SW giveaways but you guys really went above and beyond for this giveaway. Over 800 (!!!) readers voted for their favorite Chaviano Couture sketch!

Annette toiled away to turn your ideas into stunning sketches and now the moment has arrived. Which finalist did you select? Which story touched the most hearts? Which marvelous design will be made into a custom couture creation? Oh, the anticipation!

You voted and we listened. We would like to give a whopping congratulations to Elizabeth!

Elizabeth’s idea:

“The bond between my mother and I is everlasting and I would love to incorporate some of her wedding gown into my own getaway dress. Starting this heirloom would be a gift to pass down from generation to generation. Not only will it have sentimental value, but the handmade touches add so much charm. I love the idea of keeping the religious symbolism of the white dress signifying youth and innocence ongoing throughout my wedding attire. My ideal, fairytale getaway gown would be a just below the knee sheath dress (like the vintage 1950’s wiggle dress) complementing a deep elegant open back. A slightly ruched bodice with pearl accents would give the dress texture and appeal. I would love to have three quarter length lace sleeves with the Audrey Hepburn shoulder pad look to add the vintage flare and mother’s wedding gown lace. To continue with the vintage theme, I really like the look of old pearls as buttons to adorn the back of the gown. Even though you like details and ideas, I love the idea of designer touches and expression in the gown, especially from such an amazing woman, so anything you would like to add to the gown with the material, embellishments, and bottom of the gown will be stunning! I am so honored for this opportunity to have such a striking getaway gown! I am sure my hubby-to-be will be very excited as well! He even informed me that in his book, “The Groom’s Game Plan, getting to the altar and surviving the trip”, it outlines and defines getaway attire!! I sure hope on March 24, 2012 I will get to wear my very own Chaviano Couture getaway gown!!”

Annette is going to have a blast turning your idea into reality! For those of you who didn’t win (though we wish you all could have!), you can still bring your creations to life!  Chaviano Couture is offering a 20% discount on all orders placed by January 31!

One more thing, remember the Bleu Garters giveaway from a few weeks back? Unfortunately, we were never able to get in touch with two of our winners (hate when that happens) so we have randomly selected two new winners! Congrats to Allison and Melly S!

We will be having another giveaway next week! Y’all come back now, you hear?
