Southern Weddings

Monthly Archives: September 2010

Well, ladies and gents, we’re back from Katharine’s wedding.  It was incredible, and not for any superficial reason (though the dress was oh my goodness stunning and the cake was just like she told you it would be), but because Katharine and Kyle were so obviously, completely in love, and everyone in attendance was lucky to be a part of it.  And their ceremony was amazing.

However, life goes on after a wedding, it seems (shocker!), and we thought we’d start off the week with a lovely rehearsal dinner from our friends at Calder Clark Designs, who planned the Southern shindig.  Guests gathered at Charleston’s Confederate Home to celebrate Jennifer + Ryan’s marriage.  Blossoms Events took care of the flowers, with Cru Catering presenting the food, Ashley Bakery supplying the cake, and Dulles Designs on stationery.  Making this an extra-special feature for me, however, are the pennant escort cards, which Calder ordered from my Etsy shop, Peach & Pearl.  It’s so fun to see them through the talented eye of photographer Gayle Brooker!  Read on for a few more details…

From Calder + Caitlin at Calder Clark Designs:

“The couple chose to host their rehearsal dinner at The Confederate Home in downtown Charleston.  In an effort to add a modern twist to the classic Southern charm of the venue, we chose a crisp color palette of apple green and stark white.  We draped the dinner tables in custom green linens and accented those with our collection of vintage milk glass in varying shapes and sizes.  The milk glass pieces were filled with fresh flowers in tonal shades of white and green.  Other signature elements include rattan chargers and handmade sweetgrass rosettes (a Charleston surcee); these natural elements complemented the historic setting and contributed to the Lowcountry feel of the celebration.”

Congratulations, Jennifer + Ryan!  We’re sure your wedding was equally as lovely!

Well, they say all good things must come to an end, but even though the Katharine’s Big Day series is coming to an end, we think one good thing is just beginning.  Miss Katharine Waterman will be marrying her handsome beau tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more excited!  To join in the fun, take a look back at her journey to the altar:

We started with an inspiration board from Emily and a few very strict guidelines from Katharine.

Almost the first decision made was the bridesmaids’ dress: classic black, of course.

Katharine + Kyle are thrilled Bryan of A Bryan Photo will be joining them to document their big day.  Lara and I are excited, too!

K poured many hours into making her wedding website helpful and fun for all of the out-of-town guests (which is, after all, almost all of the guests).

The SW office took a massive trip to Kleinfeld… and Katharine said YES to a gorgeous dress.

Katharine’s inner bargainista was unleashed on the wedding’s paper products.

She thought she didn’t want flowers, but it turns out there will be beautiful blooms.

The CAKE!  Gorgeous on the outside, delicious on the inside.

Can’t forget about the groom and his men!

A custom veil, and something old, new, borrowed, and blue.

What Katharine’s looking forward to most: the ceremony.

I get by with a little help from my friends… or, Katharine does, anyway!

Note from Katharine:  I can’t thank you enough for sharing in our wedding whirlwind!  Your support, encouragement and good wishes were enough to make even the most “anti” of Anti-Brides get excited for her big day and love the planning process.  Almost love the planning process, but excited nonetheless!

Thank you, also, to my right-hand maid, Emily.  Truth be told, Emily was the driving force behind these posts and probably my single greatest asset during the past 10 months.  Emily, I was lucky to have you planning my wedding with me and am blessed to have your friendship.  How did I get so lucky?!

We can’t forget my personal florist, Lara, who will be styling the bouquets and reception centerpieces.  Not a small feat, huh?  Thank you for everything!  I can’t wait to share pictures with everyone.

And last, but far from least, thank you to my groom and best friend, Kyle.  It’s hard to imagine that Saturday will mark the fifth anniversary of our first meeting freshman year, and I couldn’t be happier to share a new anniversary with him.  Kyle, you are the very best thing in my life, and I can’t wait to start out on a new adventure together.  I love yew!

The third edition of Southern Weddings is printing as we speak! That’s right, belles + beaus! YEEHAW!!!

Lara spent this week in Florida getting our third issue off to the printer and signed off on the final files just hours ago!  Here are the only previews you are getting (via Lara’s iPhone).  Y’all… it is gorgeous.  Really, very, much much, a lot of, sooooo gorgeous!  We cannot wait for you to see the real thing on October 5th!

From Lara:  Big thanks to the crew at Boyd Brothers for the warm Southern hospitality!  The printer itself… massive.

The paper… massive x100

What is up with this shrugging my shoulders pose!?  I look far too happy standing in front of literal tons of paper.  I blame the fact that I had to get up at 5am to drive to Boyd! OK, I digress…

Yes, I am wearing no make-up above and I sure am wearing glasses AND sunglasses at the same time.  Didn’t you know that a week of print madness gives you license to look ridiculous?  Well, now you do.  This week has been incredible! We’re finally done!  … and just in time for a little something happening this weekend.  Miss Katharine Waterman is getting married in Boston on Saturday!  So, with the Waterman wedding as the light at the end of this print tunnel and with the help of a phenomenal team of women, V3 is off to the printer! We are all so proud of this issue.  It’s 50% thicker and is really going to make waves in a good way.  We’re breaking a lot of rules and pushing the legal limits of crazy great content.  OK, there are no legal limits, but we still broke ’em. TIME TO CELEBRATE!!!

So even though that huge load is off our collective back, now comes the really hard part: waiting until October 5, which is the first day we can share everything with y’all!

However, if you’re like us, and just bursting at the seams with excitement, you do have the option of pre-ordering a copy — or two or three!

Pre-order here!

Let the Southern Weddings Postal Service madness begin!

My parents own a newspaper and when I was little sometimes I would go with my mom to the printer and sit on the big rolls of paper and eat from my lunchbox. So you just took me back a few years. I'm excited to see V3!
