Google+ Real Tennessee Wedding: Lizzy + Kennie, Part I - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

My favorite thing about Lizzy + Kennie’s Tennessee wedding, photographed by Annabella Brandon of Asian Bees Photography, has to be the tutu-ed flower girls and their handsome, pintsized escort.  But really, I think I just love all of the couple’s fun fashion choices!  The bride, who wore an Allure Bridals gown, let her bridesmaids choose their own jewel-tone frocks, and we’re not sure who exactly picked the groom’s vest + sock combo, but we love those, too!  Another detail we couldn’t get enough of?  The bridesmaids each carried a lantern in lieu of traditional bouquets.

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story. We attended Northwest Mississippi Community College before coming to Ole Miss, where we were both on the Baptist Student Union leadership team. I was instantly drawn to him because of his adorable smile and his amazing passion for God. I couldn’t help but chase after him because I had never met anyone like him before. After some major flirting, I still wasn’t getting anywhere. Finally, I took the first step in telling him I liked him. He answered by telling me he didn’t want to be in a relationship, not that he didn’t like me, but he just wasn’t interested. “Yeah, right” I thought, “That was just his way of letting me down easy.” Not even a week passed before he began pursuing me like crazy. I guess it didn’t take him long to get ready! Of course, I quickly gave in and let him sweep me off my feet. A month later we were planning the wedding. A year and a half later, here we are.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
Our invitations. I was able to design them myself, which was really special for us.
What was Southern about your wedding? What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration?
Almost everything we used was handmade. Our wood slices were hand cut for our altar and table decorations, all of our altar hangings, my veil, my bouquet, the guys’ boutonnieres, the flower girls tu-tus, and so much more were all handmade by me and some very special helpers! We had somewhat of a backyard style wedding at a beautiful plantation home in Tennessee. Before the ceremony, our closest friends and family joined us for a magnificent Southern feast! We ate shish-kabobs, mashed potatoes, steak sliders and sweet tea.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: It was a surprisingly easy process.  I went to Low’s Bridal shop in Brinkley, Arkansas because I had heard they had a great selection.  They took me to a room full of dresses in my size and I tried on one after another until I found the perfect dress. My sister, my best friend, my mom and Kennie’s mom were all there to guide me in the right direction. After narrowing it down to about five lovely dresses, we were finally able to choose the perfect gown.

It was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever been to, and most importantly, God was the center of it all. TLB

I was not at the wedding but heard about it and saw all the great pictures. I have been married for 25 years, got married outside at Sally Kate Winters Park in West Point MS and it was very pretty, but does not compare to this. If I could do it all over AGAIN this is how I would do it for sure!!!! Great Job Lizzy
