Google+ Real North Carolina Wedding: Cassandra + John, Part II - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

I really should credit Cassandra + John’s seaside wedding at the Cape Fear River Deck for my unusually good mood today.  Yes, it’s Monday and, sure, I’m already missing the too-short weekend as much as you are, but the bright colors and butterfly motif make me smile.  Flower and Flour designed the summer-chic confection (replete with butterflies, of course), and A Beautiful Event arranged the vibrant blooms and bouquets.  High-five for the groom for wearing slick shades during his first dance and cake cutting.  You’re the man!  For more shots of C + J’s breezy North Carolina wedding, visit Walters and Walters blog post here.

Describe your wedding flowers: Bright and fun! My flower colors were hot pink, crimson and tangerine, and my bouquet was made up of hot pink garden roses, dark-red cymbidium orchids, mango cala-lillies and tiffany blue butterfly accents. My bridesmaids and matrons’ bouquets had mango calas, hot pink roses and dark red roses with tiffany blue butterfly accents. John and I wanted to keep the focus of the reception on the party and the guests, so we kept the reception flowers very simple. I used the bridesmaids’ bouquets as centerpieces for the banquet tables and had the florist design small tea-light arrangements for the bistro tables. There was also a chandelier arrangement for to add a little more splash of color in the reception tent.
Describe your wedding cake:
The wedding cake was my dream cake. The deal was that John could pick the flavor if I could pick the design. I got my design idea from the cover of the spring 2009 issue of Martha Stewart’s wedding magazine. We ended up with a white five-tier cake with tiffany blue fondant icing around the base of each tier. I told the designer I wanted a cascade of butterflies that faded from dark red through orange up to pink. It was to die-for!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day?
I think John and I agree that there were too many to choose from! Getting to release the butterflies was so fun! During the reception, we made it a point to step away from the party and take in the moment.  It was the best day of our lives!
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future?
Besides getting settled in our new home, we have trips planned to Mexico and the Caribbean. We are looking forward to growing together as a newlywed couple and planning our new adventures around the world!
