Hi y’all!  We’re headed to Hotlanta today for the big Bridalbar Atlanta opening!  I couldn’t be more excited to see my good friend Harmony open this fabulous location of her already fabulous bridal boutique.  Bridalbar is a one-stop-shop for the bride who really wants the best.  And speaking of THE BEST… the invite I got in the mail last week blew my mind! (perspective = this ring could fit my WRIST)  Brides, don’t get any crazy ideas about sending massive diamond rings out for your wedding invites. BUT if you do want something equally as amazing, check out Cherry Blossom Creations

Be sure to check in with me on Twitter for all the updates on the PINK carpet tonight… it’s sure to be quite the event with the best in the South turning out!  Cant wait to see everyone!

And a big welcome to Katharine who just joined our team this week.  She’s wonderful and Whitney and I are excited to bring her to Atlanta today to introduce her to everyone.  Welcome, Katharine!

Wishing everyone a blessed week,

Congratulations to Kelly + John who after nine years of being together and having planned their wedding on their first date tied the knot!  Yes, that’s right.  Perhaps the two knew they were meant to be when the idea of a glow in the dark wedding was a great idea.  Read on to hear how Kelly + John created their dream wedding with such terrific violet lighting.  The two married at the {Radisson Fort McDowell Resort}.  The hotel ballroom was decorated with flower arrangements by {Designs by Designs}.  Kelly + John treated guests to the delicious food by {Robert’s Catering}.  Through out the night, Kelly looked fabulous in her wedding dress by {Demetrios Bride} and jewelry by {Lani}.  The wedding was planned by {Signature Events} and capturing it all was {Marriott Photography}.  Thanks to the team over at Marriott Photography for submitting another fabulous wedding to us.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. John and I met in 1999 during our freshman year at Paradise Valley Community College when we were registering for American Sign Language (ASL) as our foreign language prerequisite. I immediately noticed John’s infectious smile and knew there was something special about him. John later told me he’d had a crush on me from the first day of class but didn’t think he had a chance because in his mind I was “out of his league.” As the semester progressed, we would exchange smiles from across the room and the occasional “Hello,” but I could never get John to take the next step. The following semester John and I were once again placed in the same ASL class. This time, however, I was not about to let another semester go by without getting to know him, so I approached John and asked him if he would like to join my study group. John gladly accepted the invitation and walked me to my car but he still would not ask me out. As a result, after our first study group at Lucky’s Pizza, I decided that it was time to take matters into my own hands and ask him out if I wanted this relationship to go any further. I truly did not realize how much John liked me until I received a phone call that he could not wait until our first date and that he wanted to go out earlier in the week. Now, fast forward nine years later and here we are as husband and wife.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? When I was 10 years old, I decided that I never wanted to have a normal wedding after being in my dad and stepmom’s Viking wedding. I mean who can forget a Viking wedding? I didn’t want anyone to ever forget the joy that I was going to feel on my wedding day. In fact, it was while I was in their wedding that I decided my wedding would have a glow-in-the-dark theme. Over the years, no one ever really understood the vision I had of my fantasy wedding until John and I started talking about marriage on our first date. In fact, not only did John understand and love the idea but he also knew from a technical standpoint exactly what I would need to make it happen. It was at that point that I knew I found the guy I was going to marry. Since John is a magician and we both have a love for magic the theme for our wedding naturally transitioned into a glow-in-the-dark and magic wedding.
Favorite design element of your big day: Our favorite design element had to be the tables and centerpieces that we chose for the ballroom where the reception was being held. The ballroom was dimly lit with 72” round purple-lighted acrylic dining tables surrounding a dance floor. Each table had a centerpiece that consisted of a clear, bubble-filled riser that was lit in bright white light. The base of the riser was wrapped in silver lamé fabric and the top of the riser had white calla lilies and white orchids accented with silver bear grass. The chairs were all wrapped in white fabric with silver bows and the matching white napkins were lit by glow bracelets that we used as napkin rings which were later worn by our guests. The ballroom also featured a deejay, intelligent lighting, and video projection that were used throughout the night.
Describe your wedding flowers: Bridal Bouquet – Round bouquet with Picasso cala lilies, purple cala lilies, sterling and white roses, purple lisanthius, accented with silver wire tubing looped in bouquet. Full-length ribbon-wrap stems with white satin ribbon. Bridesmaids – Round bouquet with sterling and white roses, and a touch of purple lisanthius accented with looped purple wire tubing. Full-length ribbon-wrap stems with Victorian lilac satin ribbon. Groom – Picasso calla lily accented with curled silver wire. Groomsmen – Sterling rose boutonnieres with curled purple wire. Flower Girls – Sterling and white rose petals
Describe your wedding cake: We had a four-tier; retro designed geometric wedding cake with turquoise, lilac, deep purple and lime fondant cutouts. On the top of the cake stood a square and circle with all of the fondant colors that symbolized John and I.

Our favorite details of the wedding were: There were several details of the wedding day that were our favorite; however, there are three specific one’s that come to mind. The first detail being the fact that the wedding ceremony was presided over by a wizard/magician named Kenton Knepper. Kenton was the first magician that I ever saw perform live as a child and has been John’s role model in magic for over a decade. John and I always knew we wanted Kenton to preside over our wedding since Kenton first knew us as individuals then as a couple. Plus, since Kenton is a wizard, it was natural for him to incorporate magic and light into the ceremony. His magic included a book that mysteriously created flames, producing bowls filled with water, pulling a light from his heart to symbolize our love and adding an extra spark when we lit the unity candle. The second detail was that during the cocktail hour, our guests were entertained by ten of our closest magician friends who took turns performing their own unique style of magic. Last but definitely not least, our third favorite detail was the fact that we surprised everyone with a beautiful fireworks show performed by Fireworks Productions of Arizona that illuminated the night sky. Fireworks are very special to us as a couple since John and I have been on a pyro crew together for several years and shooting fireworks is our favorite way to bring in a holiday. Therefore, we could not think of a better way to celebrate with our guests than to bring a firework show to them. To many of our guests, the fireworks show was the highlight of the celebration.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Magical, entertaining and unique.

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Have fun and make sure the wedding reflects your personality as a couple even if other people do not understand your vision. After all, it is your wedding and it should be about you.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? After nine years as a couple, John and I are very excited to be in the process of purchasing our first home together and are looking forward to starting a family in the very near future.

Any DIY items? John and I custom designed our wedding invitations at Mad Scrappers. The invitations were Victorian lilac and silver. The front of the invitation had an image of a crystal ball with our names inscribed inside of it to set the tone for a magical evening. We also designed our Save the Date cards to be custom made concert tickets to highlight our love of music, magic and Vegas shows. We also custom designed our altar out of concert truss. The truss had greenery woven in and out of it and there were lights hidden inside the truss to make the altar glow our favorite color, which is purple.

Congratulations to Kelly + John.  We wish you a lifetime of love!

The entire SW office LOVES this wedding! Such gorgeous images from {Heather Essian}!  I love the color combination and the floral arrangements by {Todd Events}. (editor’s note: we were thrilled to meet Todd and the beautiful Sara Fay and Mary at Engage09.  They produce some of the most spectacular events in the South!) Lynn + Jonathan had a beautiful vintage inspired wedding outside, despite the sudden change in temperature. The reception was held at {Marie Gabrielle} where guests enjoyed wedding cake from the bride’s parents and cupcakes from a local vendor. The bride’s dress was by {Vera Wang} and her accessories were by {Blush Couture}. To see more of Lynn + Jonathan, check out Heather Essian’s {Blog}.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story: Jon and I met in medical school, but we didn’t start dating until our 3rd year. We ran in different circles and never really hung out. One night I was surprised to see him at swing dance party I used to go to on Saturday nights. I had so much fun teaching him how to swing me around…. we shared a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and talked into the wee hours of the night afterwards. We became fast friends and quickly found that we were in love!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? I really wanted our wedding to feel whimsical, elegant, natural, modern and vintage all at the same time! I am in love the vintage color combination of aquamarine, soft pink and gold. Throw in these colors with vintage touches at the locale of a beautiful European garden in the middle of the skyscrapers of downtown Dallas, my inspiration came to life!
Favorite design element of your big day: It is so hard to pick, because I loved all of the elements. But if I have to pick one, I would have to say our ceremony site because of the distinct feeling I remember from it. We were getting married under a grove of trees that was nestled behind our reception site in the middle of downtown Dallas. We originally had planned for a huge vintage chandelier to be hung in the trees for us to be married under. However, due to untimely bad and windy weather, we couldn’t hang the chandelier due to safety issues. However, our amazing florist quickly thought on her feet and instead hung all these colored ribbons in our wedding colors (pinks and aquas) from tree branches with crystals hanging from the bottom. When I was walked down the aisle with my father towards my husband, I was so struck how beautiful and magical the whole scene looked: Imagine all the guests huddled in the cold, standing, smiling and clapping among the trees, with all these colored ribbons flowing wildly in the wind, and my future husband and I grinning from ear to ear as I approached him. I felt like a modern Maid Marian.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I loved my Vera Wang dress. I literally tried on hundred dresses. I was surprised how hard it was to find THE wedding dress! I’m quite petite and each of the dresses made me feel like a snowball and heavy and, frankly, uncomfortable. I happen to have a morning off work one day and stopped by a sample sale at Warron Barron, a beautiful boutique in Highland Park, Dallas. I found this ivory dress that was simple, pretty, flowy, comfortable, and feminine. It was so different from any of the other dresses! I felt exactly how I wanted to feel on my wedding day. It made it even more amazing that I got it for 80% off from the sale.
Describe your wedding flowers: sweet and whimsical, I wanted a pink soft palate with garden roses, ranunculas, hydrangeas, gardenias, and orchids. For the reception, each of tables had a unique vignette of aqua and clear vases with different arrangements of pink flowers. For the 3 head table, 3 clear tall Parisian vases were filled with large magnolia branches with hanging votives and candles. The reception room was breathtaking when I walked in. It was unique, whimsical, vintage and modern all at the same time.
Describe your wedding cake: The wedding cake was one area that I had no input in! My aunt and uncle, who own a cake bakery, gifted us with the cake. They surprised us with a gorgeous tiered cake decorated with sugar art of flower and butterflies. It was perfect and so grand. Everybody was amazed by it. Instead of a groom’s cake, we had 300 mini-cupcakes made in various flavors by a local vendor. They were displayed on vintage cakestands another local vendor made for us.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Too many! I loved that all the beautiful pink and aqua details that I made along with the professional touches of our florist came together and everyone felt that it was so “us!” I loved that I used many local Dallas vendors who are just starting out. Each of them had such amazing talent to share. Perhaps my favorite details were my friends and family. Many things didn’t happen as I expected… the predicted 70 degrees weather unexpectedly became a windy chilly day of 38 degrees! We had to change our ceremony decor and move the dance floor inside last minute. My new sister in law got into a car accident during our rehearsal. Regardless of what disaster that came, our family and friends surrounded us with love and help…It was completely memorable and so much fun!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Emotional, Loving, Unforgettable.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Enjoy the moment. You’ve put so much effort into that one day. Realize and prepare yourself that things will go wrong. Not everything will be what you expect. But some things will be better than you ever imagined. Enjoy every moment good or bad. You’ll never have it again. Love yourself, love your friends, love your family, and love on your new husband.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We’re looking forward to finishing up our residencies and begin new adventures with each other. I’ve had so much fun planning the wedding that I hope that along with medicine, I will able to work on side art projects such as photography, invitation design, and party planning.
Any DIY items? So many! I love to craft and design and had a hand in almost every aspect of the wedding. I gocco’ed our Save the Dates and created the invitations. Our invitations were definitely labor of love. I designed the invite, the Dallas map, the two sided rsvp and sent the files to Studio on Fire to letterpress. I gocco’ed a wedding booklet as well. These went into a fabric padded box that was decorated with crystals and embossing. I mailed them in burlap bags. Our programs were accordion style in different shades of pink and aqua with gocco’ed covers. My sister and I made the escort card tree. Our favors were boxes filled with personalized small tins of tea and timtams (australian chocolate tea cookies). We decorated the top of the kraft boxes with various designs of cherry blossoms. It was so much fun to make all these details.

Congratulations, Lynn + Jonathan!  We wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Thank you so much for posting our weding, SW! You were such an inspiration to me during my own wedding planning :) To answer a few of the questions in the comments, my short dress was the applique dress from BCBG, and the socks I got from Nordstrom’s rack. They are actually hiking socks, but they were the only pink argyle socks that I could find (and really wanted) Cheers!
