We were delighted to get this wedding from Jonathan Canlas Photography! Sundance was the perfect location for Jennifer +Eric’s outdoor inspired wedding. The couple’s favorite detail was the grooms cake, done by the brides brother, second to the romantic lighting. The wedding cake was from Carrie’s Cakes and the event was catered by the venue, Sundance Resort. The bride’s beautiful dress is by Liancarlo and the floral arrangements were done by Whimsy Floral & Design. The centerpieces are my favorite detail of this wedding! And the cake surrounded by all the candel light, how pretty is that?!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met on the internet (yes, another couple from Match.com). However, for a long time we told people we met while biking on a local bike trail! Our first date was going out for sushi at Cafe Asia in Arlington, VA.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? We tried to pick elements that represented us as a couple. We wanted to make everything personal to us. For example, we picked Sundance as the venue because we went there together while we were dating. We used cherry blossoms as a theme because we met in Washington, D.C. during the cherry blossom season. We made the cocktail hour Asian-inspired and served sushi because that was our first date. The cake flavors were the same as the cake we had when we got engaged. We love nature and being outdoors, so we capitalized on the venue by decorating to make the overall feel rustic, but also elegant and romantic.
Favorite design element of your big day: The lighting — we hung globe lanterns from the ceiling for the cocktail hour, and for the dinner reception, we hung old carriage lanterns from the ceiling and votives from the branches of the centerpieces. The wedding cake was set on top of votives wrapped in green vellum. The entire reception space was lit using candle light and a little bit of up-lighting. We also used lanterns hung on shepherd hooks to light the path between the cocktail and reception venues.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I had procrastinated dress shopping, so I scheduled appointments at several bridal shops in the D.C. area all the same day. A couple of my friends came along for moral support. After four shops and countless dresses, I ended up buying the first one I tried on!
Describe your wedding flowers: For the ceremony, the flowers were simple and elegant. Cherry blossoms were used to decorate the ceremony canopy and line the aisle. Kermit and moss pomanders were hung from shepherd hooks along the aisle as well. My bouquet had various peonies, white ranunculus and lily-of-the-valley. The bridesmaids carried pink ranunculus, pink bouvardia, pink spray roses, green hypericum berries, and peony buds. The rest of the wedding party was outfitted in orchids, berries, fern curl and other coordinating accents. For the cocktail hour, the flowers were modern and minimalist. The flower colors were green and white and mainly consisted of spider mums and Queen Anne’s lace. For the dinner reception, the flowers were rustic and romantic. Guests were greeted by moss wreaths. The flowers were coordinated in shades of pink, green and brown. Kermit and moss pomanders were hung from the ceiling over the head table. The centerpieces were trees constructed out of Manzanita branches. Flowers were arranged at the base of the branches, while votives and small clusters of flowers were hung from the branches. The base of each tree was wrapped in a ribbon of cork veneer.
Describe your wedding cake: Hexagonal, five-tier cake covered with light green fondant, with sugar cherry blossoms in varying shades of pink cascading down each layer. The cake layers were split using three flavors, red velvet, devil’s food, and raspberry swirl, and cream cheese icing.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The groom’s cake! My brother Jimmy made it. It was not only a tribute to Eric’s love of cycling, but also included very cute gum paste renditions of our French bulldogs, Coco and Peanut. And it was a total surprise to Eric!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Rustic, elegant, romantic
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Be very organized, watch your budget, but don’t skimp on photography, and have fun (it’s supposed to be a party!).
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? For the immediate future — just getting settled in our house. Down the road . . . starting a family (and maybe adding some more Frenchies to the household!).
Any DIY items? A lot! — Handmade napkin rings, favor boxes, monogrammed gift tags for favor blankets, ceremony programs, menus, paper cranes, pillows in damask fabric to match monogram design, etc. Most of it was made by my sister, Tara, and myself, with a lot of help from my mom and sister-in-law, Jamie.

Jennifer and Eric’s wedding colors were perfect for that beautiful location. The light green and chocolate brown matched the rustic venue while the pink added romance. I will have to check out Sundance Ranch. And I love the huge chocolate brown bows on the back of the little girl’s dresses. So cute! I will have to add this color palette to my list of "cool color combos" on my blog at Ooh & Aah Wedding Ideas.

Love this! What template did you use for the "monogrammed gift tags for favor blankets" ? I want to make some to put on our favor bags, but haven’t really found a good template to Do It Myself!

Erin + Ted definitely deserved a wonderful wedding after spending most of their eight years together in different cities! Wedding planner {Lora McFadden} helped make sure the day was perfect. The wedding took place at Old St. Anne’s Church and the reception took place at {St. Andrew’s School} where the couple first met. The couple’s big day was captured by {Jared Wilson Photography}. The beautiful blue and white floral arrangements are by {Flowers by Le Style 25} and {Liz Marden} provided five wedding cakes in five flavors, also in blue and white. Erin’s dress is from {Vera Wang} and her shoes, {Valentino}. Check out more of Erin + Ted on Jared’s {Blog}.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met when I started as a sophomore at our boarding school (where the wedding reception was almost 10 years later). We instantly became best friends but it wasn’t until senior year that we started to date and we’ve been together ever since! Then, we relied on long drives and phone calls for college because we were at different schools. After we graduated, Ted moved to Boston for work and I moved to Baltimore for school so it was another year of flying around the country to be together. FINALLY, after all that time, I moved to Boston last year and we got to be in the same place again. When I started medical school, we moved to Chicago and Ted proposed (finally–we had been dating for 8 years by now) on our first night here which also happened to be our dating anniversary! It was a perfect introduction to our new city.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? Definitely rustic chic. We really wanted to capture the beauty of St. Andrew’s but also throw in a little bit of our personality which is pretty laid back. We wanted the day to feel like a fun dinner party but for 250 of our closest friends and family!!
Favorite design element of your big day: The entire reception look was designed around the mahogany dining room tables at St. Andrew’s which we moved out to the Front Lawn for the reception. Everything really stemmed from there.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: My mom flew to Chicago for the weekend and met me at the Vera Wang store. The consultant who was helping me pulled out this navy blue dress and told me that it was available in ivory and that it would be perfect. But, the ivory version was at the cleaner’s and wouldn’t be back until later in the week when my mom would be back home. So, even though I absolutely loved it, we spent the rest of the weekend looking for something else. After we couldn’t find anything, I went back to Vera Wang on my own and tried the dress in ivory. I was the only one to see it on before we bought it!!! But, it was absolutely perfect.
Describe your wedding flowers: We/I (let’s be honest, Ted really didn’t care about the flowers) really like funky, unique flowers so I met with the florist and described my really vague image that consisted of nothing by pincushion proteas. They turned out beautifully and we actually got cream peonies in June which is just unheard of so I was really excited.
Describe your wedding cake: We are pretty indecisive so when our baker suggested that we have a spread of cakes instead of the traditional big cake, we knew that was perfect! We got to have five different cakes with five different designs and most importantly, five different flavors!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The napkins that we had in great fabrics to highlight our wedding colors and accent the tables which really were the centerpiece of the settings. Ted really loved the cigars (and so did many of our guests)–they were the perfect end to the night and a great respite from dancing. Oh, and we served milkshakes during late night and everyone enjoyed the cool-down!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: festive, muddy, perfect
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Enjoy it but don’t obsess about it. I stressed over little things that ultimately didn’t matter at all–no one cared if the tablecloths on the cocktail tables were canary yellow or dandelion. AND, hire a great photographer because the day goes so quickly and you want to remember it all. We spent a long time making our escort cards but by the time we got to the tent, they were all gone and we never got to see the spread!!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We’re really looking forward to getting settled in to Chicago and exploring this wonderful city. We’re ready to travel together and enjoy our new life as a married couple.

Congratulations Erin +Ted! We wish you all the best in your life together!
