Wanwisa Wednesday: Lovely Lace

Sometimes colors help inspire a wedding theme, sometimes it’s a couple’s hobbies or passions, sometimes it’s all about how they met or where they met… and sometimes, all it takes is a dress to set the tone for a wedding. I’ve heard delicious stories about brides using lace from their mom’s or grandma’s wedding gowns to embellish their own with, and many planners and event designers take that notion and run with it… that lace pattern becomes a muse for cake design, invitations, table top design and even inspiration for aisle runners. Even if you haven’t got 50 year old lace from grannie’s dress, Lace details can add a whimsical and pretty touch to your big day. Here are a few ways to incorporate lace details to your wedding design!

    I think the birdcage veils are timeless. I think they have the pure essence of the vintage bride. If I were to win, I would wear mine to my non-traditional wedding in Vegas to go with my sweeping chiffon dress. Wedding is in September.

    I love birdcage veils because they are absolutely stunning when they are worn properly. On May 9th, my wedding day, I would love to model Reese/ Melanie’s look in "Sweet Home Alabama" (my favorite romance comedy).     My wedding is a ways off– October 23, 2010 to be exact! I’m getting married on my parents’ anniversary, in the same church as my parents, wearing my mother’s dress. I love sentimentality, but I also want to wear something that is "me" on my wedding day (don’t get me wrong– my mother’s dress truly is beautiful). I think birdcage veils are funky, yet sophisticated, and a little vintage, which I think describes me and the theme for our big day! Plus, birdcage veils allow the bride to showoff more of her hairstyle– Lord knows it’s taking every ounce of me not to cut mine off before then! But a birdcage veil would complement the vision I have for my hair– a simple, low, classy bun. I’d love to be considered! Thanks :)

    On my wedding day, October 9, 2010, i am going to be wearing a birdcage veil. I would want the foundation to be a short hat, similar to the styles of the 1940’s, in cream color. and the veil to be a cream color also and to be detailed in small pearls. Birdcage veils lets people know you are daring and classic at the same time.

    I adore how classically chic birdcage veils are. I’m wearing a champagne & ivory vintage-style dress, so a birdcage veil would fit the "mood" of the dress so much better than a traditional veil. I plan to wear a short birdcage with a flower/feather fascinator for a touch of romance without overpowering my close-fitting dress.

    I have been searching for the perfect birdcage veil. I love the look of a simple flower with the little bit of lace. It adds drama to a simple or plain gown and that extra touch of class. i have shorter hair and would love to have a small flower on the side with veil going just over my face or pulled back.

    Birdcage veils are showstoppers because they are an unexpected throwback. I love them because they seem timeless and not at all fussy. I would wear mine over both eyes but not covering my mouth (so people can see my fabulous red lips) and I would add a small fascinatior on one side. The veil would go beautifully with my tea-length 50s-inspired dress.

    I love the look of the birdcage veil. I’d wear it with a feather & silk flower fascinator to keep with the vintage look. And I’d position it cocked over one eye to jazz up the look with some more edge. I’d also wear it for our TTD shoot the next day because something like a birdcage is BEGGING for a fashion-like shoot :)

    Le sigh…..I have nothing planned for my March 7th, 2010 wedding yet. The only thing I am absolutely certain of is that I want my hair styled like Rita Hayworth, a gown that would make Jean Harlow proud, and a fabulous birdcage veil dotted with Swarovski crystals set off by a sweet smelling gardenia (gotta pay a little tribute to Billie Holiday!) Love those photos, ladies!!

    I’m so excited about this giveaway. I have Castle Bridge blog on my favorite list. I LOVE their veils. My favorite one is Chloe. I love the bow, it is so feminine and so elegant and it is veil that I would love to use on my wedding day.Bird cage veils reminds me of classic movies and it is so timeless. My mother and grandmother wore birdcage veils on their wedding. Without them asking me, I want to keep the tradition. Beside I’m old soul and and wearing a birdcage veil would be timeless and chic… BTW Birdcage veil adds more characteristic :)

    I love birdcage veils because they create a timeless, classic look while allowing the bride to show her personality through a unique, custom design. My wedding dress is an ivory gown with lace appliques. The appliques are made of ribbon handcrafted in flower designs all over the dress.     On my wedding day, August 28 2010, I want to wear one of those fairytale like, timeless birdcage veils. As an artist-illustrator, living in a whimsical, romantic and moody world, I think this is the perfect veil for me, and I can’t wait to finally wear one.     With every decision I make regarding our wedding, I try to be unique and think outside of the box. We’re getting married outdoors and I do not want a veil blowing all over the place. Birdcage veils definitely say unique to me and would be a perfect alternative to the traditional long veil.

    I love birdcage veils because they are so classic, yet modern at the same time and I love that you can dress them up or down. I’m having an outdoor wedding and my dress has this gorgeous high lace back so a normal veil would just cover it up. A beautiful birdcage veil, though, would allow me to show off the awesome detail on my dress and still look stylish.

    I love birdcage veils because of how sweet they are – nothing overly fancy that will work wonderfully with my plan for a sundress for the wedding. I’d also wear it to the gaming convention I’d be going to after the wedding! Geek love needs pretty things too!

    I really love birdcage veils, esp since as soon as I told my hair dresser about my dress he told me he wanted to do something vintage with finger waves. birdcage veils and finger waves go great together!! I would love to wear a birdcage veil a little to the side with a large pretty flower and bright red lipstick! so fantastic!

    My wedding will be held in the Spring of 2009. I have purchased a blush pink Maggie dress that is strapless that is cut on the bias. Very non-traditional in color yet soft and elegant. I think that a birdcage veil would make the dress even more dramatic and unique!     I love birdcage veils because they are fabulously retro and classic but fun at the same time. We are having a more casual wedding, so I am planning on wearing my hair in a messy bun with a flower in my hair with a birdcage veil attached!

    I think the birdcage veil is a great way to shift the mood going from ceremony to cocktail hour. A long cathedral length veil screams classic and traditional. (Which is cool if your that type of person all around. ) But I’m a bit of traditional AND modern. I’d like to wear a cathedral length veil for our ceremony as it will be in an actual cathedral and quite traditional. But for our reception and the dancing I’d like to switch up things a bit and trade the cathedral length for the birdcage!

    Since I was a little girl I always wanted to wear the same birdcage veil as my godmother. Her birdcage veil was so retro and had the vibe of a 40’s style. When I announced my engagement to her, I asked about the birdcage veil. We looked and searched and we had no luck. She thinks she might have given it away to women shelter. Perhaps she made another bride very happy. Looking at the castlebride site. Their veils offer the same vibe and same features what I am looking for. It has the retro style with a little mod up to date style. If I am the lucky bride to be, not only would this make me so happy but also my Godmother too.

    I am a younger bride that also isn’t very tall, so I know that a birdcage veil will accentuate my face without being to intense. The vintage look is always hot and when I bought my dress it HAD to go with a birdcage veil or I wasn’t buying it. I love my dress but when I put the birdcage veil the store just threw together on I knew it was a perfect match (even with a subpar veil). My wedding is August 1st so I know it will also go great with the summer style of my yellow wedding! I plan to wear my hair in a side bun with a comb that matches my dress holding the veil! I am in love with them!

    Birdcage veils are fabulous because they are a subtle show-stopper…drawing eyes to the glowing bride’s face. I would wear my hair in loose waves and a simple birdcage veil. Although, if the veil came with an extravagant ornament I would wear my hair in a simple twist to the side. Thanks!

    Well, the wedding veil originally was to hide the brides face from the groom when marriages were arranged. The birdcage veil is a post modern switch from the original ideals of love and marriage. It clearly shows the brides face and never gets in the way of the kiss. It symbolizes our strength as women to choose who we want to marry and also shows the man what he’s getting into…making the bond even stronger.I personally like them because they don’t take away from the beauty of the bride or the dress. They are simple, elegant, and functional. They also make great decorations around the house after the wedding when you keep it for posterity!

    I would love a birdcage veil- and am currently on the fence over wether I should have 2 veils. It is family tradition to wear an heirloom mantilla- which I will for the ceremony- but since its chapel length and so delicate I would remove it afterwards. I’d still like a veil for the reception and a birdcage one would be perfect!

    In a time when women have far too much on their plates, their wedding day needs to be a moment for them to be the eye of the storm. Around them is a flurry of tule, petals, and congradulating hands. When I am the center of that storm, I want a veil that stays put and anchors me.     I am currently on the hunt for a birdcage veil for my wedding this September. I am getting married outside, and will be wearing a short, lace dress. I can’t even imagine a long veil. Only a birdcage veil seems right. It matches my personality: fun and a little bit different! I came accross CastleBride a couple weeks ago, and fell in love with the Madison veil.     I love CastleBride Couture! I am so sad that there are no salons in Atlanta that sell their veils! Bird cage veils are perfect for the edgy, sassy bride. They evoke a sense of glamour and sophistication that traditional veils do not. I am getting married on October 3, 2009 and I think the "Jamie" or "Daisy" style would be perfect to wear to a bridal shower, my rehearsal dinner (with a cute, white, short dress, of course!) and even the reception! I really like the short veils with the feathers, flowers, and crystal fascinators – so stylish and definitely couture!

    The theme for our wedding is birds and I’ve been looking for the perfect bird cage veil but have yet to find one in person. For our gifts that come in forms of envelopes, we’re having guests slide it through the cracks of a bird cage instead of a traditional box. For our centerpieces, we’ll have fake birds sitting on cherry blossom branches and our wedding cake will also carry the same theme of either a nest or birds as a topper. I thought it’d be fun and super cute to adorn a bird cage veil to carry on the theme and see if anyone picks up on it…I love little details such as this that tie it all together :)

    I am one of those girls who has been planning my dream wedding in my head my whole life. I always said I would never wear a veil because I didn’t get the point of them and I didn’t like the way they covered up my face and my pretty dress. When I was trying on wedding dresses, the consultant got me to try on a birdcage veil, and it was love at first sight! I can’t wait to wear one on my wedding day and I love the ones from CastleBride. I plan on wearing mine with a feather and vintage broach fascinator!

    These veils are gorgeous! I’ve been seriously thinking about wearing a birdcage veil, because they have so much personality and are just the right combination of sassy and old style glam. I would wear it off the side of my head, so that it would be visible from the front but wouldn’t cover too much of my face – I want my groom to be able to kiss me easily! ;-)

    I love love love these veils and have envisioned wearing one at my wedding since I was a little girl. The are so gorgeous, timeless and feminine! Our wedding is going to be in a gorgeously rennovated 1920’s opera house (atlantaeventcenter.com). The entire motif of the wedding is vingtage/glam inspired and I think one of these veils would be the perfect compliment to the event. The veil I would love to wear would be a shorter face veil with some embellishment of feathers and/or flowers.     I would love the opportunity to win something as beautiful as your birdcage veils! I am having a wedding in the fall and I feel the birdcage veil will set the tone and overall look of my dress. Since i was proposed to and began wedding planning I knew I wanted to do something different then all other weddings and brides.     My Fiance and I are getting married in New Orleans, I am Canadian and he is currently living in Dallas TX but was stationed near New Orleans before we me.We both have fallen in love with this city and plan on moving there once we can reside in the same country (we currently live apart and haven’t seen each other since Jan.) Anyway, we are having a traditional New Orleans cocktail reception in the evening finished with a second line march through the french quarter! and one of Castle Brides Formal feathers headpieces would be so perfect!     My mom has always said that I’m an "old soul" and I was born in the wrong era. I love the vintage look of birdcage veils and would love to wear one at my wedding on October 16, 2010 wedding. I think they have a timeless style that complements my simple style (and my love of pearls!). I would wear a birdcage over my eyes with pearl combs holding it in place.

    Bird Cage veils are my favorite wedding day accessory. I love when they worn at medium length, with a large brooch and slightly off kilter. I think they are wonderful classic bride because they add a little mod element.     I have always loved the timeless style of the 20s through the 50s. There is something about the style that is almost whimsical, but always classy. This is part of the reason why I wanted an antique style engagement ring. That’s the same reason why I want one for my wedding ceremony. The style of my wedding is a little whimsical, a little out of the box, unbelievably creative, but always classy. I plan on wearing mine the same way my great grandmother wore hers: a little off to the side, a little slanted, with a lot of attitude!

    Not only do I want the entire theme of my wedding to be centered around the design of the birdcage veil, but I want my birdcage veil to be the focal point of the wedding. I have dreamed of the day I would walk down the aisle since I was a little girl, and every so many years, the dress in that dream would change, the flowers would change, the location, the cake, the you-name-it, it all changed, all of it except the birdcage veil. I have always known that I wanted that funky, yet glamorous, vintage inspired birdcage veil.

    I would absolutely love a birdcage veil because I think they have a vintage feel to them that is absolutely gorgeous. There is something more sentimental about photographs of a bride wearing a birdcage veil and I would love to be that bride!

    I love that a modern piece can bring us back. My fiance and I are quite old fashioned, but all the tool and netting everywhere of a traditional veil seems a little overwhelming! I love that I can be modern, while still bringing back an old fashioned feel which reminds me of how marriage has been traditionally sacred and treasured. A birdcage veil is the perfect fit!

Gia Graham Color Palette: Black, White and Camel

Neutrals can definitely be a gorgeous wedding combination when done in a fresh new way as Gia of {betsywhite Stationery} shows us today. There is nothing more elegant and classic then black and white paired together and with the addition of another neutral to create a different feel to this gorgeous pairing of colors. From Gia: Adding Camel to black and white is a great way to add a bit of a modern twist to this always-elegant combination. This palette of neutral tones will never look outdated. It’s young, fresh and classic and would work well with just about any wedding style. In this case, we’re going for a preppy look.

The bride and bridesmaids: With this palette, there are many options for the bridesmaids: they can wear black, camel or ivory dresses. Simple white bouquets tied with black ribbon would work well against any of those dresses. The bride could wear a white or ivory gown with a bouquet in shades of white.

The groom and groomsmen: The groom could wear a Camel-colored suit with a white shirt and black tie. Perhaps the groomsmen could wear black sport coats with camel pants and white shirts, so they don’t look exactly like the groom.

Accents and Details: Tabletops would look great with floral centerpieces in shades of ivory in black vases on crisp white linens. A white cake with scalloped details and delicate black accents would add to the preppy look and coordinate beautifully with this invitation.
