{Millie Holloman Photography} captures some of the best weddings in North Carolina.  We fell in love with Molly and HR’s vineyard wedding in Western North Carolina at {Stony Knoll Vineyards}.  Molly + HR went for a pink and green color scheme in their flowers (designed by {Bo-Ty Florist}) using roses and gerbera daises. The wedding feast was catered by {Cross Creek Country Club}.  Molly wore a stunning gown from {Nitsa’s} and her bridesmaids wore lovely dresses from our favorite, {J.Crew}. Check out more shots on the Millie Holloman Photography {Blog}. How cool is the Stony Knoll antique car?

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story: We actually met a few years back when I was still working at the same local bank where he currently works. I ended up moving directly across the street from him and we began to hang out. I was somewhat of a runner and one day he challenged me to a running competition. Needless to say, I left him in the dust. He must not have minded the defeat because he stuck around and we were inseparable from them on.
Describe the proposal: HR and I went to Asheville to celebrate our one-year anniversary – March 23, 2008. He rented a cozy, little cabin for the weekend and planned a wonderful dinner for that Friday night. We ate dinner and went back to the cabin to continue watching all the March Madness basketball games (I am avid Carolina basketball fan and insisted on being able to watch the games that weekend – I know, how romantic!). When we got back to the cabin, he started acting a little funny and before I knew it, he was on his knee asking me to marry him with the most beautiful ring ever!
What attracted me to my husband was: First of all, his southern charm! But most importantly, his big, tender heart and his ability to make me feel like I am the most important thing in the world to him! He respects me and we can talk about anything!
Why do you love your husband? I love him because he is the one that I can count on when I have had a bad day and need a shoulder to cry on or someone to talk to! I also adore him because he is an excellent cook and I am a bit challenged in that area (although I am working on it).
What attracted me to my wife was: What first attracted me to Molly was her friendly spirit and her will do attitude. She never meets a stranger and is never afraid of a little challenge. Being with her makes me a better person.
The weather on our wedding day was: Rainy in the morning, but it finally cleared off for a gorgeous fall day! Our reception was outside under a tent, so no matter what, we were going to have a great time!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? Our reception was at a vineyard, so we used a woodsy theme mixed in with plenty of pink and green! The vineyard theme was carried out with lots of grapevine, curly willow, and containers covered in moss and bark. My mom and her friends are the queens of decorating, so they pulled it all together with all the moss, twigs, and pink and white tulle you can imagine!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I had just gotten engaged the Friday before and my mom came to visit that Monday because we had to get the planning started! She knew exactly what kind of wedding dress I wanted because we had talked about it so much leading up to our engagement. She went looking around while I was at work and called me to say she had found the perfect dress! I took off work a little early and went to try the dress on. The second I put it on, I knew it was the one!
Describe your wedding flowers: Again, lots of pink and green! Hydrangeas, roses, Gerber daisies, hypernicum berries, buttons and many more!
Describe your wedding cake: Off-white butter cream icing with white on white polka dots, 4 tier square design, green hydrangeas as the topper and on each tier with a large “W” in icing on the second tier. The actual cake is a well kept bakery secret of the vendor’s own designed recipe – dense, rich, and very flavorful. The cake was displayed on a square, large moss and bark covered stand especially designed for our wedding.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: For my family, music and dancing are key elements to any party. Most of my family and friends would tell you that my dad doesn’t miss a dance if music is playing! That is why our music selection was so important. Our band, {Hip Pocket}, was wonderful! They were so much fun and got all the guests involved. At one point, my mom, dad, HR and I and some of the bridesmaids and groomsmen were on stage singing! I love to look back at all our pictures and see what fun everyone was having!
Were there any special family traditions you included in the wedding? I wore the pearls my dad gave to my mom on their wedding day almost 34 years ago! She had them restrung for me to wear and that was very special for me to incorporate that into my big day!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? During the ceremony, as I usually do, I cried during my vows and tears were streaming down my face. As I was trying to finish the vows, HR wiped a tear from my face and at that moment, I knew why I was marrying him. My heart melted!
Funniest moment? During the ceremony, my dad kissed me on the cheek after he gave my hand in marriage and then preceded to give HR a hug before he went to sit down next to my mom. As he was walking over to give HR a hug, he stepped on my veil and almost pulled it off my head. It was pretty obvious and everyone laughed! It definitely lightened the mood as HR and I were both very nervous!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Unforgettable, Fun, Perfect!
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Enjoy the time you have as it does not last long! Take deep breaths and realize that it will all come together in the end. The things you may stress over, nobody will ever know the difference if it doesn’t work out perfectly.
Best advice or most memorable comment someone made to you during the wedding celebration. My brother and sister-in-law had just gotten married in June 2007 and went to Greece on their honeymoon. Someone in Greece told them “Happy New Life!” upon realizing they were newlyweds. My brother wrote these three simple words in our guest registry book and they stuck with me! Our wedding day brought us together and our new life began the moment the minister pronounced us husband and wife! I now have this wonderful man to enjoy this “new life” with and things couldn’t be better!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Right now, we are actually enjoying the down time we finally have after many crazy months of planning! We are enjoying being with each other mostly and can’t wait to see what our future holds!
Any DIY items? My mother and her friends were my saving grace! She has a wonderful group of helpers and they crafted so much themselves that I can’t even name it all. Only these ladies can make a piece of moss or twig look classy and elegant!

Congratulatons to Molly + HR.  We wish you the best as you discover what your future holds.

Your wedding pictures are gorgeous! I am getting married next year at a winery in that same area, but I am planning from Raleigh. I would love to know what vendors you used that you would recommend. Where did your guests stay? Where did you find that great trolley that is pictured with your bridesmaids? Everything was just so beautiful – congrats!

  2. avatar lauren reply

where were the pink satin shoes purchased? i’m looking for something exactly like that in red and haven’t been able to find them anywhere! any help is greatly appreciated!

  3. avatar Molly reply

Hi Abbie and Lauren – thanks for the comments and congrats on your upcoming weddings!! Abbie, the vendors are all listed in the first paragraph – I think those are literally all of the vendors I used, except for the trolley, which was Yveddi Transportation out of Surry County (I believe Mt Airy) and the guests stayed in various hotels around Mt Airy, Pilot Mountain and Dobson. You can email me at [email protected] if you have anymore questions. I would love to relive the fun! Lauren, the shoes are actually from a company called Blue Tux (I ordered them online). They are called Sophie and they come in white, so I had to get them dyed pink. I couldn’t find any pink, cute flats either!Again, either of you contact me if you have any questions and happy planning!

our rings would definitely be described as sweet and simple. they aren’t decked out in diamonds, but they are perfect for us!

  2. avatar Liz reply

My wedding ring matches my engagement ring exactly. My fiance did such a wonderful job on the engagement ring it was perfect for me and I didnt help him at all, and neither did anyone else. His ring is simple and elegant to match. We are going to get the engraved after the wedding. We want to be married before we decide what we want to put on them together.

  3. avatar Jessica B. reply

These pillows are simply beautiful; I just love them! It’s often difficult to find pillows that aren’t too "weddingish" and they’ve created a perfect alternative to that cheap-looking, blah, borring pillow that is so UNINVITED to my wedding April, 2010. I just love it when 2 creative sisters share/sale their wonderful taste with others! Thanks Melanie and Ashleigh :)

  4. avatar Felicity reply

I love the pink embroidered flowers, but I would probably choose something a little more simple. Perhaps a simple while with navy blue ribbon around the edge.

  5. avatar Elizabeth reply

My wedding band was chosen to match the engagement ring my fiance picked out (with little to no help, I might add!). It’s a simple band with diamonds that match the band of my engagement ring and it "gives" to allow room for the side diamond. His was chosen in attempt to find a ring that screams masculinity. We kept both in white gold to make it cohesive and plan to inscribe them with some sweet words or Bible verses when it gets closer to time. Overall, we just went with our own aesthetics!

  6. avatar Katie reply

Those pillows are amazing! I can’t wait to look for one that matches the colors of our wedding! We are going with a wider band for my fiance and are designing a band to go with the engagement ring that he picked out himself for me.

  7. avatar Brittany reply

My engagement ring was specially designed, so we had a hard time finding anything that fit alongside it well. Eventually, we selected two thin, simple bands that bookend the engagement ring. The simplicity really sets off the beauty of my engagement!

  8. avatar Jenn reply

I love the story of my ring! I custom designed it to show off my grandmother’s diamond. She has alzheimers and won’t be in attendance to the wedding, so it is so special to have a part of her with me. I love the design- my designer took all the aspects I love (like ascending sized side stones and a large "V" supporting the diamond to stand for Victory), and put them all into one ring! The other great part is that my (now) fiance orchestrated the ENTIRE thing while he was deployed to Iraq for the last year. I designed the ring a long time ago and he worked with the designer and my Mom to have it ready when he came home for his mid-tour leave. My wedding band is a tiny one– because I want my engagement ring that means so much to be the focus. His wedding band will be Tungsten, because he works on Tanks and in Humvees, it won’t scratch up. We are ordering one with acid etching in a Celtic cross pattern to honor his Irish heritage from his Grandmother.

  9. avatar katie reply

My wedding ring is the same as my engagement ring. I only wanted to wear one ring and it’s a diamond band. I adore it. Everyone thinks I’m crazy for not wanting a solitaire but with such an active lifestyle I just didn’t feel like a solitaire kind of girl. I was adamant that it be a vintage ring so that I would be reusing diamonds and not contributing to ills of the diamond trade. My fiances ring will be a plain white gold band. Perfect for fishing and outdoors!

  10. avatar Junage reply

My wedding ring will echo the diamond my FI picked out for my engagement ring. Mini versions of the diamond will line half of my ring. FI is getting a plain comfort fit band. We’re both getting our rings engraved with our initials and wedding date, which is how we did our monogram.

  11. avatar Patty reply

Lovely ring pillows! They are works of art. My engagement ring: my fiance knows me so well! He picked out a simple white gold band with a round cut solitaire. After he picked it out, he brought along his diamond savvy guy friend and my fashion-savvy sister, and they both agreed that was the one. I simple look the classic and clean look. For our wedding bands, I’m wearing two thin bands with tiny round cut diamonds that wrapped around the whole ring. They will go on either side of my engagement ring to show the sparkling beauty on the big diamond! (I picked out the wedding bands.). Oh! His is a simple band (white gold) with a small diamond encased (to match mine).

  12. avatar Brittney reply

Before we were engaged (and during) me and my Fiance lived about 6 hours apart from each other. So, when we started looking at rings, we looked online and it went something like this: "ok, I like 3rd row, 2nd over from left…" then he’d say, "ehhh, what about 1st row 3rd ring over"… so on and so on :) haha!I came to visit him and we ended up looking at rings… I knew a designer that I liked (A. Jaffe) and we looked up a local jeweler who carried that designer. We went and looked and tried on about 20 rings… I looked down and saw a ring that I was like, well, I’m here, I might as well try it on. We put it on, the jeweler put a loose diamond in the setting and that was it! We looked at each other and we’re like, we love this! It’s a modern solitaire with diamonds in the band – we love it :) It came with a matching wedding band that has the same diamonds in the band! We finally agreed on one we BOTH loved :)For his ring, since he’s allergic to golds and other metals, we decided to go with a tungsten ring. It wouldn’t react with his skin and it’s definitely him. He really likes it! :)

  13. avatar Miss_Lotus reply

Our rings most reflect each of us. His is simple and bling free but classic looking. Mine is a paisley design around the band that is ornate, vintage-y, simple, glam, and very south asian. It’s reflective of me and my heritage.

  14. avatar Amanda W reply

My fiance”s ring is his father’s first wedding band (he upgraded a few years ago) and we’re really excited about that! We are both having our bands inscribed with "It’s a circle" because it is a line from one of our favorite movies, and having a comical line in our wedding bands is just so US! :)

  15. avatar Cristal Vasquez reply

We chose gold rings that look like tree branches not only because they were beautiful, but because we felt that they symbolized our family trees. Family and our roots are very important to both of us, as we are making our way to becoming part of each other’s family and working to create our own.

  16. avatar Kellie B reply

We will be picking out rings within the next few months, and due to the recent economy we have decided to get simple white gold bands which are more timeless than anything :)

  17. avatar Jessie reply

Beautiful work – I love the embrodiery – reminds of my grandmother who I wish could be at my wedding. The pillow would definitely bring vintage to our Christmas wedding and so colorful!Thank you.

  18. avatar zolie reply

His ring is titanium (light and strong) and wood (soft and warm) to symbolize our relationship. Mine is a custom platinum pave band custom made to match my engagement ring. It’s taken a couple of tries to get it right, so when we finally get it (they had to melt it down and try again!) it will be very meaningful!

  19. avatar Kelsey reply

We haven’t picked them out yet, BUT we both want something classic that we’ll love forever :) Hopefully we’ll have a beautiful ring pillow like one of these to carry them on our special day!

  20. avatar Nicole Allman reply

He picked out a beautiful 6-prong solitaire. It’s perfect because my fingers are so short anything more would overpower me. We found a simple wedding band with no diamonds that really makes my engagement ring stand out.

  21. avatar Anne reply

My finance and I chose to purchase our rings from Brilliant Earth. Their diamonds are fair trade, the gold is recycled, and the mining is practiced fairly. It was important to us that our rings be sustainable as we are trying to "green" many areas of our lives. They are gorgeous and we are proud to wear them and support a wonderful business idea.

  22. avatar Hilary Roe reply

My wedding ring is custom designed by my fiance. He custom made my engagement ring out of wax, which then served as a mold for platinum. Since the band is so unique, he molded the wedding band at the same time as the engagement ring so it would match! My fiance wants a simple, but different platinum wedding band. I hope we win a great pillow for our little ring bearers! :-)

  23. avatar Erin reply

We designed the engagement band to symbolize our relationship. We are unique- our entire relationship has been. It started with a simple text message "tienes mi corazon" after the second date, which will eventually be engraved on both our wedding bands- to a love that is so powerful and balanced that we wanted it to be displayed on my finger. The engagement band symbolizes this perfectly- the diamond (our relationship) sits between two bands, symbolizing each one of us as individuals, growing together to work as a couple. We are not one entity, but two people working at one powerfully, equal love. The diamond (while absolutely fabulous, let’s be honest) symbolizes something we will work our entire lives to maintain- a passionate love. I will forever and ever be grateful for the chance to design our ring together- because that’s exactly what it is- OUR RING.

  24. avatar Gretchen reply

My fiance Nick chose a beautiful, elegant setting with seven diamonds on each side of the ravishing diamond given to him by his widowed Grandmother… the round cut diamond is a family heirloom from her engagement ring to mine! She "approved" of me early into our relationship perhaps because of our southern connection since her home state is GA and mine is SC. Plus, the engagement ring has a European flat back within my palm so that it is not easily scratched nor does it scratch any of my musical instruments at work (I’m a music therapist: ). We’re continuing to search for simple yet elegant, white gold wedding bands through local vendors and have 3 1/2 months to go prior to our August wedding in Columbia. Thank you SWMAG for organizing this exciting giveaway!

  25. avatar grace reply

Our wedding rings will be custom made from stones left behind from his family. His parents had a wonderful, loving marriage and I will be completely honored to wear the precious diamonds that brought his parents through the roller-coaster of marriage! I would like to have something engraved on the rings that is reminiscent of the sacred wedding vows we will take so that it can be a constant reminder that no matter how tough days get, we vowed to each other, forever.

Here are some great ideas and resources!

First up, {top row} instead of tossing petals down the aisle, have your flower girls toss punched flowers from biodegradable seed paper {via Martha Stewart Weddings}. In lieu of a guest book one couple opted to have guests sign linen squares that the bride will turn into a keepsake quilt {via Martha Stewart Weddings}. A resourceful couple asked friends and family to lend linens and china in their wedding colors – the result, an eclectic mix of patterns that give a vintage-chic appeal and is anything but wasteful! {via Martha Stewart Weddings}. Second Row: Shop for plantable confetti from Bontanical Paperworks for your wedding toss! Use letterpress menu cards from Smock stationary, a chic paper goods company that uses vegetable-based inks on bamboo paper {via Brides.com}. For fabulous favors, give guests lovely potted plants that are not only earth-friendly but also stylish {via Brides.com}. Third Row: Shop for organic gowns from Deborah Lindquist and chic organic and vintage accessories from Jennifer Behr. Give guests pretty Bloembox Flower Seeds from Beau-coup.com. Bottom Row: Send out invitations by Oblation Papers; not only are they green, the designs range from classic to modern and are simply divine! And don’t forget to feed guests delicious food from caterers who use organic and local foods – a chic idea for cocktail hour treats is to serve up appetizers in “edible containers” {via brides.com}.

Until next Wednesday! Xoxo, Wanwisa
