More details from Christa + Travis’ lovely garden wedding…  The wedding day feast was catered by {Command Performance Catering Group}, wedding cake created by {Skiff’s Cake}, floral design by the amazing team at {Holly Flora} and design and planning by Beth of {Beth Helmstetter Events} and gorgeous calligraphy by the fabulous {Laura Hooper}.  Check out more shots from the fabulous photographer, Meg Perotti, on her {Blog}.

Three adjectives that describe the day are: Magical, Romantic, Organic.
Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted the flowers to be different shades of white and cream. I wanted there to be a lot of dimension but not too many different colors. I also loved hyndrangeas, so I wanted to utilize those as much as possible. For the center pieces we had hurricanes in different heights with white pillar candles in them. There were flowers all around the base of the hurricanes and it ended up looking effortless and chic. We also had the florist place candle-filled Mason Jars everywhere and hang globes with candles in them from the trees.
Describe your wedding cake: We knew we wanted three different cakes and three different flavors. The flavors were red velvet with cream cheese frosting, yellow-cake with raspberry filling, and a spice cake with hazelnut filling. The designs of the three cakes were mixed and matched, but definitely tied together and they were set at different heights.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: It’s definitely a tie between the mashed potato bar (mashed potatoes with every topping imaginable served in martini glasses) and the s’mores station (with a castiron stove). The s’mores station was our planners idea and it was a big hit!
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Whatever you do, don’t get caught up in traditions if it’s not your thing. Each and every wedding tradition does not have to be followed. Just choose the ones that feel right to you as a couple. And of course, remember what the event is really about….the two people getting married. The wedding should reflect their personalities. Oh, and hire Beth Helmstetter as your wedding planner! She was amazing, relaxed, and very professional.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are very excited to welcome a baby boy to our family in May!
Any DIY items? My mother made the wedding favors. They were mason jars with a peach pie filling inside. The guests loved them and some people even told me they used the filling as jam and it was great!

Congratulations to Christa + Travis.  We wish you the best with your newest family member on the way!

Christa, a Southern girl at heart, wore a stunning {Vera Wang} wedding gown to wed her beau, Travis at {Hartley Botanica}.  Read on to hear about the Southern elements she placed in her big day.  Photography by {Meg Perotti Photographer}. Happy Monday, y’all!  Aren’t they a GORGEOUS couple!?

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story: We met about 4 years ago at a mutual friend’s birthday party. It was at this Hilltop Hotel in L.A., and we ended up talking the entire time and realized we had a lot in common. We were both dating other people at the time so we stayed acquaintances and eventually lost contact. About three and a half years later, we connected again and never left each other’s side. I guess it’s true that timing is everything! After only a month, we knew we wanted to be together forever and 2 months after that…Travis proposed!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? I wanted the feel to be distinctly southern. I am from South Carolina, and I wanted to feel like a southern belle. I also love the romantic and ethereal vibe and wanted that to be a part of the wedding as well. Our planner Beth did an amazing job bringing the home-y feel of a southern wedding together with the romantic simplicity that represents us as a couple. Some southern elements we definitely wanted included were Mason Jars, sweet tea, and fried chicken (which ended up being a huge hit!).
Favorite design element of your big day: The ceremony site, hands down. The aisle was under a canopy of trees with white floral leis hanging from the branches. There were candles and white rose petals lining the aisle and surrounding us as we said our vows. It was unbelievable and felt like a dream!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I looked for quite a while for the dress because I knew the exact feel I was looking for. I wanted the dress to be form-fitting, mermaid style, and a bit vintage looking. Like old southern glamour. When I saw it…I knew. It was a Vera Wang gown in an ivory color and it was perfect.

More to come from Christa + Travis…

I love the charm and coziness of their wedding. The smallest details like the mashed potato bar, the smores station, and the unusual wedding cake help create unexpected surprises for their guests. I love the ideas couples come up with when they decide to incorporate their personalities into their special day

We rarely post personal things here but I have to say happy birthday to my mom.  She is the reason I fell in love with entertaining, flowers, design, art and these celebrations of love that we share with you every day.  And she actually reads this blog, so I really wanted to tell her how much I love her! (ps- she won a 5k this morning.  What a great way to celebrate your birthday!) I am so proud of you mom and wish I could be with you today.

Thanks so much for all of these sweet words… she loved the post. Started crying, said she was so flattered I’d share my love for her with the world ; ) Not that hard to do, really.David, I can’t take credit for any of the boards you see here. I do one in a blue moon now thanks to Kirstin and Lindsey. It’s fun to get to do one when I get a chance though! — lara
