Southern Weddings

We were delighted to see Courtney + Erin’s wedding featured on {Once Wed}, an amazing wedding blog filled with stunning inspirations. We knew we had to learn more about these stunning details! Special thanks to James of {Paloma Images} for sharing this wedding with us. Not only is the photography amazing, but Courtney + Erin are super fun and let us ask them tons of questions about their wedding and their story.  How cute is it that Erin lent Courtney a book which made Courtney call him a week later to arrange to give back the book!? We love it and we know you will too.  Look out for more posts about the fabulous stationery by {Flush Designs}, the incredible details that Courtney planned on her own and the fantastic reception!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story… A friend invited me (Courtney) to a party where I didn’t know anyone else. When my friend left me sitting alone, Erin took pity on me and kept me company for the rest of the night. At the end of the night he lent me a book, which I then used an excuse to call him a week later
Describe the proposal: We were going away to Cambria, CA to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Erin had planned a special picnic in a park overlooking the ocean on a very chilly afternoon. I did not really want to sit outside in the cold and was pretty grumpy, but when he pulled out a gorgeous diamond I forgot all about the cold.
What attracted me to my husband was: His kind heart and quirky sense of humor.
What attracted me to my wife was: Her stunning good looks and easygoing personality. When she first walked in the room at my friend’s house I knew I was in big trouble. Then when she called me to ‘return the book’ I knew we would have something special.
A date we went on that we’ll always remember: I will always remember our first date. We went to a local coffee house and did not run out of things to talk about for hours. I left knowing that we were going to have something special.
The weather on our wedding day was: It was pouring rain at 6 A.M. on the morning of our wedding. I was horrified, imagining moving our beautiful garden wedding into the gymnasium of the town hall. Thankfully the rain stopped and sun came out in time to dry out the garden. The weather turned out to be perfect and sunny.
Were there any special family traditions you included in the wedding? Just being in the town of Cambria was so special for both of our families. We have also both lost loved ones, so we included memorial candles in our ceremony décor and our pastor also read from my father’s bible. Attached to my bouquet were two small pictures from my parents’ wedding.
Funniest moment? We choose to do a communion with our pastor during the ceremony. I tore off a small piece of bread for Erin, but he gave me a piece of bread that was big enough for two mouthfuls. I was trying to swallow it, panicking because I knew I was going to need to stand back up in a few seconds and trying not to choke. Luckily our pastor noticed and did another prayer while I frantically chewed.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase/verse/or line? We decided to go with classic vows, but we both added a promise to each other that was silly and personal. Erin promised to eat pizza with me once a week (I could eat pizza every night of the week) and I promised to try to be on time (My lateness drives him crazy). Everyone remembers our promises and reminds us of them occasionally.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking into the church, seeing Erin standing up in the front and realizing that it was really happening!

More to come from Courtney + Erin!

Now you know I can’t let a pair of shoes like that go unmentioned. I LOVE THEM! Every detail was great.
