Google+ Southern Wedding of the Week: Angie + Justin, Part II - Southern Weddings

Southern Weddings

We are back with more from the Georgia wedding of Angie + Justin. This gorgeous wedding took place at the stunning {Serenbe} of Palmetto. Event design by {Gloriosa} with event coordination by {Gooseberry Creative Events}. To see all the amazing shots of this wedding click over to Almasy’s blog {Post 1} & {Post 2}.

What was the design inspiration for your wedding? We wanted our wedding to compliment Serenbe, the fall season as well as reflect our own personal styles (we like rustic and distressed décor). We called it simple elegance as we planned. We love how Serenbe marries the simple farm culture with the newness of the planned community. We chose, with the help Gloriosa Design, several older, rustic elements to use at the reception (antique farm cart for the guest book, farm table for gifts, large, rustic iron chandelier) which complimented the older farm look and our styles, contrasted by the newer, creative fall-themed cuisine, floral and décor (vignette of shabby chic chairs and drapery) which brought in a more elegant and newer feel.
Favorite design element of your big day: The old, rustic elements used at the reception (the farm cart, oversized, rustic chandelier and earthenware jugs with foliages). They were beautiful and really help compliment Serenbe and our personal styles.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? The time frame — we were engaged on April 28, 2008 and got married just over four months later on September 13, 2008.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding?
1. I know it’s easier said that done but please don’t overstress about the details (it’s not what’s most important) and you will just drive yourself crazy. I have heard and seen so many brides get hung up on details most people will never even notice. Choose two or three things that are most important, put your heart into those and get help with the rest. You’ll save yourself a ton of headaches!
2. Know your personality. If you think you will be super detail-oriented, then you’ll need more time to plan. If you’re willing to be selectively detailed (again, choose two or three things you’ll put your heart into and get help for the rest), then you can shoot for a shorter engagement. Don’t get me wrong, being engaged is fun and you should enjoy it but being married is ten-times better. I would advocate a shorter engagement any day!
Best advice or most memorable comment someone made to you during the wedding celebration. Justin’s great aunt pulled me aside immediately after our first dance and reminded me, quite sternly I must say, just how many promises I had just made. I’ll never forget that!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Getting settled and choosing all the wonderful places we’d like to travel and explore together before we have kids one day! We are also so looking forward to growing together in our relationships with Christ and each other.
Other details you want us to know about your wedding: We knew we wanted a shorter engagement. While we were thinking more like a six-month time frame, Serenbe was booked. The next available opening was in March of 2009 and we didn’t want to wait that long to get married. Fortunately, a date opened up and was offered to us. Despite our incredibly compressed time frame, so many things fell into place (vendors were available, friends willing to help, etc.). We still count our blessings!

Congratulations to Angie + Justin!
