Southern Weddings

Isn’t there some saying about how there’s nothing more American than apple pie and baseball? If that’s true, then Blaine and Mike definitely had an all-American engagement session. And, with its red, white, and blue color scheme, it just so happens to fit perfectly into the week of the Fourth of July! Big thanks to Stephanie Hunter for sharing this sweet day!

If you ask Michael, a Texan tried and true, the shoot wouldn’t have been the same without his cowboy boots! For the dock portion, he wore his boots and I donned my red pumps, as tributes to our respective personalities.

For the portion shot at White Rock Lake in Dallas, we had so much fun compiling goodies for our picnic! We brought our favorite sodas (Coca Cola and cream soda) and pink lemonade, our picnic basket and tea set, Michael’s letter blanket from our college and, of course, our crossword book, which we hardly travel without! I also found adorable hand towels from Anthropologie for each month of the year, and Michael hand-stitched a heart around the date of our big day.

For us, it was important that our engagement session reflect what it is that makes our relationship so fun-loving and carefree. Our very first conversation was centered on our love of baseball, and it has been a shared hobby of ours ever since, so we knew right away that we wanted to capture that part of our lives on film. To make things even more special, we were able to do the session at the baseball field at Lake Dallas High School, where Michael coaches! We included little mementos, such as a personalized Louisville Slugger bat and my Yankees shirt. It was so much fun to be able to share little tidbits about who we are, and where we come from, to our friends and family on film!
