Hey y’all! I’m Jessica, the owner and creative designer of Simply Jessica Marie. I am a watercolor artist, brush calligrapher, and custom wedding stationer with a heart for creating unique designs that visually portray my sweet couples’ personalities and love stories, and therefore serve as heirloom keepsakes for them to pass down through generations to come! I cannot wait to get to know you and your sweetheart better, and find ways to infuse your love story into your save the dates, invitation suite, and coordinating day-of design details!
Full Name: Jessica Peddicord
Where you call home: While I consider Winston-Salem, North Carolina to be my home (it’s where I grew up!), my husband and I are now calling Dallas, Texas our new home!
Things you’d write home to your Momma about: Honestly, the thing I will always be the most excited about is that our own wedding (featuring some of my favorite custom designs to date!) was featured on the Southern Weddings blog! It was absolutely something I wrote home to my Momma about, and something I will share with my kids and grandbabies one day. More so than any of the other blog and magazine features, I am simply most proud of the fact that I get to work with the absolute sweetest and most creatively-trusting brides and grooms imaginable!
Location/Coverage: While I live in Dallas, TX, I design for sweet brides and grooms all across the country and globe!
How I got into weddings: I actually got into the wedding industry as a wedding planner! My degree is in Sport and Event Management, and I had various internships with wedding planners and designers (and even with Southern Weddings!) while I was in college. You could say that my adoration of weddings and dedication to sharing love stories began at a very early age! After working as associate wedding planner after college, I realized that I preferred the visual storytelling of a wedding rather than the logistics of planning. After I got engaged to my handsome hubby, I decided to transition my focus to custom wedding stationery, wedding paintings, and brush calligraphy! I love that I am still a part of the wedding industry, simply in a different role than I originally imagined! Plus, being a former wedding planner provides me with a unique insight into what design details will best complement your wedding day.
Favorite thing about weddings in the South? My favorite thing about weddings in the South is definitely the appreciation of and focus on family and family heirlooms! I love seeing brides and grooms honor the people in their lives who have shaped their story and supported them along their journey. It is also so sweet to see brides and grooms creating legacies and new family traditions of their own through the details crafted uniquely for their wedding day–details that they will be able to pass down through the generations, along with their grandparents’ heirlooms!
Favorite part of a wedding day? My personal favorite part is watching the bride and groom during their reception. I love seeing them soak in every little detail and emotion, from watching their friends and family meet and mingle for the first time, to enjoying that slice of cake they so perfectly selected, to realizing that they are officially husband and wife. It is usually subtle, but seeing how couples react during these moments is my absolute favorite!
Best piece of advice you can give to brides and grooms? Allow yourself to truly showcase your personalities through your design details, while still being mindful of and respectful toward the wishes of your sweet parents! I love finding ways to help provide a compromise, such as using more traditional wording on the main invitation piece and then infusing personality through a custom painting or calligraphy on the back side of the invitation. Utilizing the back of your invitation design is one of my favorite things to do so that your guests will want to keep and frame your invitation! In my opinion, it serves as a sweet gift from you to them!
Dream travel destination? Oh, I have so many! My husband and I plan to travel frequently throughout our lives, and Ireland, Greece, and Paris are among our top dream travel destinations. I cannot pick just one!
Favorite Southern city? Charleston, South Carolina, hands down! The pastel color palettes, rich history and culture, and slow lifestyle inspire me every time I visit. I hope to retire there one day!
Early bird or night owl? Night owl!
Favorite pie flavor? Apple pie with a streusel topping!
Favorite biscuit topping? Apple butter!
