After their seaside ceremony, Liz + Klas took the celebration inside for an evening of dinner + dancing in the Kiawah Resort’s Atlantic Room. We like the warm, intimate feel of the reception hall almost as much as the couple’s elegant three-tier cake from Elaine’s Events. Fun fact: the bride’s silk organza gown was a custom masterpiece from Modern Trousseau. Talk about one-of-a-kind! The SW girls could relive E + K’s October celebration a bit longer, but suppose we’ll have to settle for thanking South Carolina photographer Heather Forsythe for helping us kick off the day!

See all the photos from Liz + Klas’s wedding in their Real Wedding Gallery!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: It was custom-made by Modern Trousseau, with embroidered silk organza. My favorite detail was the single loop bow in the back; I carried that theme through a few details in the wedding: the cake, the ties on the booklets and the schnapps glasses, the flowers on the ceremony chairs were tied on with a single loop bow in tiffany blue, etc.
Describe your wedding flowers: The The Atlantic Room of the Ocean Course’s wrought iron chandeliers and brass sconces did not fit in with the overall look and feel of our wedding. OOH! did a fabulous job transforming those components of the room in to floral art, creating an ethereal ambience in the dining room for our sit-down dinner. The boutonnierres were made by the my mother and incorporated the beach theme. The groom wore a single starfish, and the groomsmen each wore a single sand dollar. The fathers each wore boutonnieres handcrafted using a combination of smaller seashells, and the “stem” of the boutonniere was covered in Tiffany blue ribbon.
Describe your wedding cake: Clean, elegant and simple. A single loop bow of icing adorned our simple ivory wedding cake along with our married monogram, EPK. The filling was designed to mimic our favorite dessert, Strawberry shortcake.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? We were faced with what could have been a significant hurdle the day of the wedding: a string of major thunderstorms were forecasted to make their way across Kiawah that afternoon. One major storm came and blew through quickly; however, the golf course radar told us that another major storm was on its way. We were informed that we had about a 30 minute window before the second storm arrived, so if we wanted to have the ceremony outdoors, we needed to do it ASAP! This meant moving the start time up approximately 15 minutes early, so we jumped on it. Cocktail hour was moved inside but lucky for us, the second thunderstorm never came. We were able to take our post-ceremony photos outside and, not only did we avoid another storm, we got a rainbow! It really felt like luck was shining down on us! The weather was still good after dinner, so we were able to proceed with the band and dancing on the side porch and lawn.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? What I remember most is seeing Klas for the first time when I walked down the aisle, and holding his arm so very tightly throughout the ceremony. After that, I remember truly cherishing every moment we had surrounded by so many people we love from so many different parts of our lives before and after we met. We’ll never have that experience again, and I’ll always treasure that!
