If Caroline + Tyler’s invitation suite doesn’t immediately tell you how adorable and stylish these two are, then no fear, many more details lead to this conclusion! Their letterpress invites are so lovely, I could stare at them all day. Of course, once you see Caroline in her lacy and tiered Anne Barge dress, the show is stolen! Her fluffy bouquet of peonies, ranunculus and and garden roses accented with green snow on the mountain instantly stole my heart. We love how the soft colors of her bouquet were punched up for her bridesmaids’ blooms, designed to stand apart from their mixed pink and green dresses, no doubt. We’re positive that Tyler, looking mighty handsome in his tuxedo, was lovestruck all over again when Caroline walked down the aisle to exhange “I do’s” at Montaluce Winery & Estates. Big thanks to Heidi Geldhauser of Our Labor of Love for sharing!

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met in 2005 in Oxford, Mississippi when I was a sophomore in college and Tyler had just transferred to Ole Miss from Auburn. Our roommates were dating at the time, so they introduced us and we instantly had a connection. After being each other’s dates to several football games and sorority/fraternity functions, it was official. We knew it was really serious when we decided to move to Atlanta after graduation.
Describe the proposal. Last August we were in Curacao and had just gotten back to our hotel from a lovely dinner. Tyler had the idea of taking a walk on the beach and asked me to go downstairs and grab a bucket of ice so we could walk with our drinks. He knew the ice machine was broken so he knew this would give him time to get the ring out of his suitcase and distract me. Once we were on the beach, he led me to a cabana and pulled the ring out of his pocket. Before he had a chance to get down on one knee, I blurted out “Yes!” We called our parents and my sister immediately to tell them the news despite our $300 cell phone bill.
What attracted me to my wife was: The first couple things that really attracted me to Caroline were her big beautiful eyes and her wonderful smile. Once I got to know her a little more, I realized she was really down to earth and very smart. She could hold a conversation on almost any topic. After a while, I just could not imagine my life without her in it.
Why do you love your husband? Tyler is my best friend and helps me stay grounded in the most unpredictable of moments. Basically, he is the voice of reason in absolute chaos. He makes me laugh at the drop of a hat and can light up a whole room with his dry sense of humor and charisma. Most importantly, he understands how special my family and friends are to me and takes a genuine interest in their well-being.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Timeless, intimate, and charming
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Our ceremony was held in the production room at Montaluce Winery. We wanted the large wooden barn doors to be left open so the North Georgia mountains could be visible in the background. Since the ceremony was a few hours before sunset, the natural light only allowed the guests to see our silhouettes, creating a very intimate and personal effect. It seemed as if it was just the two of us in that room which felt very comforting and sacred. The ceremony felt like less of a blur.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I was lucky enough to only have tried on one other dress before finding “the one.” Mine was a custom Anne Barge gown with a sweetheart neckline made of pearl silk-satin organza with appliques of Alencon lace on bodice and a tiered skirt with Alencon lace bands and silk satin organza layers.
Describe your wedding flowers: My gorgeous bouquet was composed of big fluffy peonies, ranunculus, snow on the mountain, and garden roses. My “something borrowed” was my great grandmother’s handkerchief wrapped around the stems. We used these flowers throughout the reception as well, along with lots of dusty miller, stock, Queen Anne’s lace, lavender, antique roses, and veronica, just to name a few. We did mostly shades of pinks, whites, and greens.

How much fun is Marilisa + Taylor’s wedding party?? They look like just as much fun as their outdoor reception at Fair Havens Plantation. Guests were greeted with escort cards hung cleverly on two ladders. The rustic vibe continued with burlap table linens, wildflowers in mason jars, and hay bales! I’m so smitten with M + T’s yummy pie bar — doesn’t it look delish? I’d hop through my computer if I could. Between first dances, pie cutting, and celebrating, the newlyweds managed to sneak in a game of corn hole with boards that they made and painted by hand and ended the night with a good ol’ sparkler exit. Thanks again to Matt Miller of Our Labor of Love for sharing!

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Our favorite details were our corn hole game sets! Taylor made the two sets by hand and I painted them with our initials and wedding date, which matched our invitations. What made the game even better was that we actually had time to play during our reception!
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? The most Southern thing about our wedding was that it took place at a restored plantation home in Arnoldsville, Georgia. Other Southern details that we included were gingham shirts for the groomsmen, cowboy boots, big belt buckles, brisket, grits, sweet tea and mason jars as vases!
Describe your wedding cake: Instead of a cake we went with a pie bar! We had cherry, chocolate, pecan, blueberry and apple.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Our biggest challenge was making the guest list. Taylor and I both have large families and our parents have friends all over the country. It was stressful at times deciding who to invite without hurting anyone’s feelings, but everything worked out in the end and it truly felt like one big reunion for our friends and family from the South and Northeast!
What range did your wedding budget fall into? $10,000-$25,000
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? My dress! Initially, I thought spending lots of money on a dress I would only wear once seemed pointless, but once I had the gown on, there was no turning back.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Our most memorable moment was my sister’s toast at the reception. I chose a friend to be my maid of honor, but I still wanted to honor my older sister Elizabeth and I asked her to give the toast. There was not a dry eye in the tent and people still tell us how special and unforgettable it was.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? Yes, we wrote our own vows and read them to each other while two of our friends performed “Holy, Holy, Holy.” My favorite vow from Taylor was when he said, “I vow to be your solid, steady man. When you’re feeling all over the place I’m going to be grounded like an old hickory tree.”
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are fully enjoying married life in Athens! We are both trying to build our careers and Taylor will be applying for nursing school in January. We are looking forward to traveling together and building strong friendships with other young married couples in our church!

Marilisa + Taylor’s Georgia wedding was plantation perfection that takes gingham to another level! I love that the groom and his men rocked the gingham shirts and big belt buckles. Their adorable yellow bow ties were the perfect shade to pop against the pattern and accent the ladies’ wildflower bouquets. Marilisa’s ‘maids look positively darling in their mismatched frocks and colorful shoes, but of course they didn’t outshine the bride, who looked effortlessly beautiful in a flowing Amy Kuschel gown, cowboy boots, and a pretty updo. I love the view of the Fair Havens Plantation that stretched behind Marilisa + Taylor’s altar and the big celebratory hugs, post-ceremony. Big thanks to Matt Miller of Our Labor of Love who caught the moment and shared this wedding with us.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Taylor and I both grew up in the Northeast and met when we were 12 at a summer church camp in New York. My family moved to Georgia right before I started high school, but he and I stayed in touch over the years and reconnected after he moved to Athens for school. We developed a great friendship, which only deepened the following year when I moved to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. Taylor and I would go on jogs or work out together and usually end up eating somewhere and talking about God. Having such a strong spiritual connection really caused the sparks to fly! During the summer of 2008, we worked together at a church camp and by the end of the summer, we were dating.
Describe the proposal. (From the groom) For about two years I knew that I wanted to propose at dusk, under a perfect sunset, out in a field, far removed from anyone. Thus, the search began for the perfect spot. Last July, I drove by an open field off Route 53 in Watkinsville, Georgia and instantly knew I had found where I wanted to propose. I found the owner of the property and told him that I wanted to use his property to propose to my best friend. After receiving his blessing, all that was left was for the ring to arrive and for time to pass. Early in the afternoon, my brother and I loaded a table made from wood from an early 1800s smokehouse into a friend’s truck, drove it out to the field and left a bunch of yellow daisies on it. All that was left was for me to pick up Marilisa for what she thought was a dinner date with friends. As we drove out to the field, I tried to enjoy the moment and remember the speech I had been practicing. We got out of the car and walked towards the table and as we walked, I told Marilisa that the Hebrew word for “helper” in Genesis could be translated as “lifesaver” and that I felt this perfectly described how I saw her role in my life. I got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me and she said yes! It seriously felt like we were the only people on the planet (until this kid drove behind us on an ATV). We left Athens and drove back to Atlanta to celebrate with her family and then flew to Connecticut to be with mine.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Relaxing, glorious, and one-big-crazy reunion!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: A few weeks after the proposal, I was on OnceWed and the main page featured a beautiful San Francisco wedding with the bride in a stunning Amy Kuschel gown. I immediately searched her site for the dress style (Margherita) and discovered the designer only sold her gowns to one store in Georgia, Kelly’s Closet. I made an appointment with the boutique and planned a weekend for all my bridesmaids to come with me. It was the first dress I tried on there and all my girls fell in love immediately! The soft fabric felt so dreamy and I knew it was the perfect style for our rustic outdoor wedding!
Describe your wedding flowers: I wanted the flowers to look as if someone had just plucked them from an open field and our florist did a fantastic job capturing that vision. My bouquet consisted of white peonies, roses, blue thistles, green buttons and craspedia. Flowers for the other bouquets and decorations included monte casino, solidago, seeded eucalyptus, and millet.
