While their ceremony was a classic black + white affair, Taylor + Stephen celebrated with a bold and bright outdoor affair at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. I love, love the twinkle lights over the checkered dance floor! Talk about dancing under the stars. For a fun twist on a wedding tradition, T + S served a chocolate, flower-topped cake from Classics Cakes (904-246-6408). For more from today’s fairytale wedding, visit Abby Jiu’s blog post here!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: My dress was the first one I tried on. I went on to 10 more stores and at least 100 other dresses. But I couldn’t get over the way that dress made me feel – just like myself… only better. I wanted something beautiful, feminine, and dramatic, something that would take Stephen’s breath away and this dress fit that bill 100%. The dress was going to stretch my budget, but my mother agreed to it saying, “Life will have its challenges. I want your life with Stephen to start off as perfect as possible. You’ll always have this wonderful day to look back on, and the way you felt, even when times are tough.” I couldn’t thank her for that more.
Describe your wedding flowers: My florist helped me choose a lovely palate of purples and fuchsia for our wedding floral designs. Throughout the museum and gardens were various arrangements of antique hydrangeas, purple and fuchsia roses, calla lilies, stock, and purple mokara orchids with a spray of peacock feathers in almost every design. I carried a cascading bouquet of white phalaenopsis orchids secured by a brooch that belonged to my great aunt. My bridesmaids carried bouquets of purple antique hydrangeas, deep purple callas, purple mokara orchids, purple roses and punches of fuchsia roses. Each bouquet was different, but similar.
Describe your wedding cake: The bride’s cake was a three tiered, chocolate devil’s food cake with a chocolate butter cream filling and chocolate ganache exterior. It had gold ribbon on the border, gold fondant feathers, and fresh flowers. The groom’s cake was a double layered half sheet of New York Style Cheesecake with butter cream icing and decorated with fondant, hand painted bow ties. One tie represented Stephen’s fraternity, another represented his interest in politics, and the last represented his signature bow tie.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Just as I stepped outside into the garden to take my place for my walk down the aisle, I heard the a capella group sing a song Stephen and I had listened to often. The rush that came over me in realizing this was the moment I would get to marry the most wonderful person I’d ever met brought tears to my eyes. I hid behind a great oak tree, waiting for my cue, thinking to myself, “I really get to keep him forever.”
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? No, but our priest knows us well. She represented us perfectly in her sermon when she said, “Taylor is Stephen’s inspiration and Stephen is Taylor’s rock.” She went on to say, Love is not a feeling. It’s a do-ing.”
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We look forward to moving into our new home together and starting a family in the next few years.

We love Lizzie + Miles’ outdoor garden reception at the Crane Cottage almost as much as their joyous ceremony. Delicate blooms (arranged by Mardee Morris) balance the rustic vibe from the burlap tablecloths, but our very favorite detail is the lovebird-topped cake prepared by the talented staff at the Jekyll Island Club. Open Light Studio has more from this Georgia wedding waiting for you on their blog!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I wanted lots of advice so I planned a weekend of shopping with my mom, sister, and good friend in Atlanta, where my sister lives. I finally found the perfect place called Kelly’s Closet with the perfect dress, a Modern Trousseau. Everyone at Kelly’s Closet was so helpful and creative. They were able to make the dress my very own by removing the sequined sash and creating one made of the same lace from the bolero they designed. In the end, I was able to make my wedding dress uniquely mine.
Describe your wedding flowers: My florist, Mardee Morris, kept the design very organized, yet each detail had its own special “whimsy”. For example, billy button flowers and green orchids were mixed with traditional English garden roses. Inside the reception tent, each floral arrangement was formed within a different blue and white patterned porcelain container. The flowers used were hydrangea and tons of ivy and maidenhair fern, along with garden roses, orchids, beapluerum, freesia, and Casablanca lilies. Mardee collected bottles and apothecary jars for the glass topped café tables and filled them with fresh greenery and single stems of green centered sunflowers, kangaroo paw, lily grass, dahlias, lilies, orchids, and freesia. Touches of fresh lemons and Spanish moss were also placed throughout the venue. The mantles were adorned with pillar candles among more blue and white vases filled with bells of Ireland, hydrangeas, and plumosa fern.
Describe your wedding cake: Our wedding cake was sweet and simple: a lemon sponge cake with layers of Cointreau-laced, raspberry cream filling, and topped with butter cream frosting and fondant. The pastry chef at the Jekyll Island Club tied raffia around each of the four layers and our florist adorned the cake with orchids, roses, and stephanotis jasmine blossoms. My mom made the bird nest cake topper, which contained two feathered lovebirds representing Miles and me. The cake plate was a wonderful, antique, wooden serving platter, which sat upon a family heirloom linen cloth.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? The most memorable moments of our wedding day—besides the ceremony, of course!—were dancing our choreographed polka to Edward Sharpe’s “Home,” the awesome band (The 8-Tracks from Savannah), going away through a gauntlet of giant sparklers on a surrey bike built for two, and the amazing feeling of being so loved!
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are so excited about getting back to our lives! I’m working hard to get my graphic design business off the ground, and Miles is back to writing at the local weekly, the Mountain Xpress. We’re looking forward to settling down and possibly making Asheville our permanent home.

This morning, we raved a bit about Paige’s sartorial selections (remember those one-shoulder bridesmaid dresses?!), but wanted to give you a few close-ups of the bride’s ruffly gown. Augusta Jones does magical work with wedding dresses, but Paige is what really makes this dress. The newlyweds enjoyed a rustic reception under the stars at the Magnolia Plantation, and noshed on red velvet cupcakes and homemade desserts. Tres Southern! Photographer Landon Jacob has more South Carolina goodness on his blog. What are you waiting for?

Describe your wedding flowers: Our wedding flowers were one of my very favorite parts of our wedding! We had mixes of all types but the main flowers were antique roses, green parrot tulips, snow berries and scabiosa pods. The flowers on the tables were all in different white milk glass containers and all of them were different. The head table had a mix of candelabras and beautiful single flowers in tons of different sized and colored medicine bottles.
Describe your wedding cake: We did not do the traditional wedding cake. We did an array of desserts that were all made by our families and are famous recipes that have been passed down through our families. We then got an array of five different flavored cupcakes for people to grab as well. I could not find a cake topper that I fell in love with so I decided to make one that looked like a little banner that spelled out “love.” We draped it over our giant red velvet cupcake. The array of desserts was a HUGE hit!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Our biggest challenge in our wedding was probably our invitations. The mail system weighed them and they said that they would be fine. Six days after we mailed them, we received a huge box with all of our invitations back with horrendous stamps all over them saying they were too heavy and that they were not standard! Needless to say our invites were much delayed and people from overseas were getting them before people that lived down the street from us. It was a bit of a nightmare but ended up all working out.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? There are two moments that stick out to me. One was when I got there before it all started and walked into our ceremony location and our reception. It was absolutely breathtaking! The second moment was probably walking down the aisle to finally hold Scott’s hands. I had been crying (of happiness) the hour before! The second I walked down the aisle and saw everyone who had come to be with us, I immediately was in tears again. I finally got to the front and about two minutes into the ceremony, holding Scott’s hands, I was put at ease and was so happy to finally be with him.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We did not write our own vows although we did have a reading called “The Tree We Stand Beneath.” It was about a tree and how it starts as a seed and moves its way into having branches and grows just as a relationship does. It talked about you have to take care of a tree for the beauty to come just as a relationship has to be nurtured. It was beautiful. We thought it was very appropriate since we were married under a large historic oak tree.
