One of the most magical things about weddings is the way they bring people together who would have never been in the same room otherwise. Your high school friends sit next to your coworkers at your ceremony. Your cousins cut a rug with your sorority sisters. Most importantly, your family and your beau’s family celebrate together under one roof. Sarah and Giancarlo’s wedding brought together her sweet, undeniably Southern community and his family and friends all the way from Peru, and despite the language barriers and cultural differences, the love and joy over this darling couple’s union is palpable! We’re so glad our Blue Ribbon Vendor Twenty-One Films shared their highlights film with us–don’t miss it below!
From the bride:
Giancarlo and I met through one of my neighbors. Since Giancarlo and I work in similar fields and he had just finished up his MBA, my neighbor put us in touch for networking purposes. A few weeks later, he and I met up at a local coffee shop and sat there for three hours, hardly discussing business :) The following summer, Giancarlo had to move back to Peru. I traveled down to see him a few months after he moved, and he proposed on the beach in Paracas. The next year was spent with him in Peru and me in the States. After fifteen months of living in different counties, he finally came back to the US and we were married on October 4, 2014.
By far, the most memorable moment of our wedding day was when Giancarlo and I said our vows in both English and Spanish. My parents don’t speak Spanish and Giancarlo’s parents don’t speak English. It was important to us to incorporate both languages and customs equally throughout the ceremony. Saying my vows to this amazing man in both my native language and his native language was something that I will never forget, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
