Southern Weddings

I think working with many different colors in a wedding can make it difficult to keep the look consistent, but Towne + Andy pull it off marvelously! A pair of Kate Spades and multi-colored bouquets by Harvey Designs were a vibrant pop against Towne’s Vera Wang dress and her bridesmaids’ grey Tadashi frocks. The strands of ribbon flowing from garden hooks were a bright and modest lining to the aisle in the middle of Greene Square in Savannah. Put together, the details made for a whimsical but refined ceremony. Take in all the pretty colors and then read on to find out about Towne + Andy’s sweet love story, their 2.5 engagements (That’s right, there was more than one!), and a special family heirloom. How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. Andy’s sister just so happened to also be a friend of mine from our days at the Savannah College of Art and Design. When I moved to Chicago, her matchmaking intuition kicked in. As it turns out, she had come up with this idea that Andy and I should be together back during our college days, but had never mentioned it because, at the time, Andy and I lived 800 miles apart and were in other relationships. After many months of us both politely refusing her attempts introduce us, we finally gave in. We met blindly at a bar aptly named “The Union” and it was about as close to love at first sight as I think anyone has experienced! Several days later, we had our official first date. After Chicago style pizza and dancing at a Reggae bar, Andy asked me, “So, what are you doing for the rest of your life?” I responded by saying “hanging out with you!”
Describe the proposal. Well, over our 4 years together, there were sort of 2.5 proposals! The first occurred after only 2 months of dating. One evening after work, Andy lovingly presented me with his great grandmother’s wedding set. It was a beautiful ruby engagement ring along with her gold wedding band. When he proposed officially, we were simply at home. It was morning. We were just waking up for brunch and he knelt beside the bed and re-presented me with his great grandmother’s ruby ring. Saving yet one last surprise up his sleeve, the week of our wedding, he asked me to marry him for the second time in a beautiful Savannah square. This time it was in the moonlight, which showcased a very sparkly new engagement ring.

Our favorite detail of the wedding was: All of the elements came together so perfectly that everything was our favorite! The food, the band, our amazing loved ones; it was fantastic.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Oh, we knew all along that no matter where our wedding was held, that we would have Southern food. Raw oysters on the half shell, low country-inspired pairings of BBQ brisket with stone ground grits, and heirloom tomato sandwiches, to name a few. Of course, the music was Southern, too! Triply Lindy out of Charleston, SC set the tone of our semi-formal, cocktail-party-style reception perfectly.
