Maybe its just me but how Lauren + David met seems straight out of a romantic comedy.  They met at a party where David’s unusual t-shirt brought Lauren over to question the clothing choice.  Weeks later the two both ran into each other again only to have David act like he didn’t know Lauren.  Well, Mr. David it’s best that you now share with others that you did remember but were being sly ; ) Lauren + David tied the knot at {DeLille Cellars}.  The event was planned by {Sweet Pea Events} with flowers and decor by {Chic Celebrations}.  Lauren choice shades of greens for her flowers and Chic Celebrations really captured the nature and simplicity look that Lauren wanted.  The wedding dinner was catered by {Ravishing Radish}.  This wedding was captured by the talented {Michelle Moore Photography}.  Check out her take on Lauren + David on her {Blog}.

How did the two of you meet? Tell us your story. We met during college in Louisiana through a mutual friend that played baseball with David, our friend Brandon. Brandon was the center of a humorous White Elephant Christmas gift that featured him posing with a dolphin on a t-shirt. David was the lucky recipient of the gift and ended up wearing the shirt to a party over the holidays. I was at that party and noticed his t-shirt and after much prodding from friends went to ask about it. We spent the rest of the evening getting to know each other. Now this is where David will start to tell you a completely different story, but this is my version. We did not see each other again until after the holiday break and one night I ran into him with another mutual friend who introduced us. Well David pretended like he had never met me before! It was not until weeks later that David admitted to remembering me, but he said he had denied it in order to be polite!
What was the design inspiration for your wedding? David and I decided very early on that if possible we wanted to get married outside and as close to it being “just us” as possible, which meant no bridesmaids or groomsmen and a small guest list! Ultimately, the biggest design inspiration became came from the natural beauty of the outdoor setting: mainly the color green. It was because I was not trying to match or complement a bridesmaids dress with other design elements that I really felt the freedom to play with several shades of green. Greens in our flowers and other design elements ended up really heightening the natural beauty around us. I didn’t want to detract from that natural beauty so it was very important to keep things simple, but elegant. The natural beauty is something our photographer Michelle Moore did an unbelievable job capturing.
Favorite design element of your big day: In addition to the various shades of green throughout the ceremony and reception, my other favorite design element of our wedding was the bamboo folding chairs we used at both the ceremony and reception sites. The funny thing about these chairs is that I did not realize how much I enjoyed them until I was looking back at our pictures! They blended in seamlessly with the other outdoor elements of the wedding!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: David and I got engaged on New Year’s Day 2008 in Victoria, British Colombia. I lived in Florida at the time while I was completing my masters degree, but was visiting my parents in Arkansas over the Christmas break before I went back to school for my final semester. It was important for me to have the opportunity to look for dresses with my mother and grandmother and I knew that once I was back in Florida that doing that would be very difficult. The goal of first bridal shop we went to was to figure out what I did or did not like in a wedding dress. The second shop we visited was when the serious looking began, when it became something more than dress up, something special, something I was going to be able to share with my mother and grandmother. It was then that we found the perfect dress, a dress that ended up falling right into my design inspiration before I even knew what it was: simple but elegant.
Describe your wedding flowers: We chose to use flowers in shades of ivory, white, and green to complement the outdoor areas the ceremony and reception took place in. The bridal bouquet was composed of white and cream roses wrapped with an ivory ribbon. The ceremony also had pomander balls at each aisle entrance made using white chrysanthemums. At the reception we highlighted the table centerpieces by using apple green table runners. The centerpieces used a combination of tealeaves and white snapdragons, lilies of the valley, lime green hydrangeas, and candles in a variety of clear glass vases.
Describe your wedding cake: Our cake was a three tiered square cake with ivory butter cream icing. At the base of each tier there was strip of fondant in a shade of apple green. On the top of the cake and sporadically placed on the cake were ivory flowers. The best part about this cake was the flavors! Each tier was a different flavor, white cake with white chocolate cream and fresh strawberries, chocolate cake with raspberry chocolate truffle, and lemon cake with lemon curd filling. It was absolutely amazing, as evident by the fact that our guests ate the entire thing!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Our favorite detail was our non-traditional guest book. We had our guests sign a bottle of wine from the vineyard where we were married: DeLille Cellars. It is an amazing keepsake from the wedding!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Intimate, Elegant, Organic.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Enjoy the planning experience. If you know you are an extremely busy person or get stressed out and overwhelmed easily it is ok to ask for help! Having a wedding planner help out was one of the best decisions that I made. Not only did she help with the logistics, but also in developing the design elements and inspiration. Kelly was able to take ideas and things I love and bring them to fruition beautifully.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? David and I plan on moving to Canada in the early summer so that he can begin medical school in the fall. Due to unforeseen difficulties, I have been living in the US while David has been living in Canada, his home country. Those little things that most couples get to do after getting married like getting settled in a house and really living together, we haven’t had a chance to do yet. So what we are most looking forward to is finally getting to start our lives together!!!
Any DIY items? Our rehearsal was a tour of Safeco Field (the Mariners are David’s favorite baseball team) followed by dinner at Pyramid Brewery. The favors we had at the dinner were small bags filled with Cracker Jacks, Big League Chew gum, peanuts, and red licorice ropes all tied together with a Mariners pencil. They were really easy and our guests loved them!

Congrats to Lauren + David.  We wish you a lifetime of joy together!

Get ready for another inspiring color palette this week from Gia of {betsywhite}. We love this fresh spring palette she put together! To see more of Gia’s pretty palettes check out last weeks post.

From Gia: This week’s palette is perfect for a spring wedding. Aqua and Leaf really embody the freshness of spring while touches of gold add a bit of elegance. This combination would work equally well with modern or traditional wedding styles.

The bride and bridesmaids: A lovely, simple white gown would be a wonderful backdrop to a bouquet bursting with fluffy white spring blooms and lots of greenery. The bouquet could be tied with Aqua ribbon to incorporate the colors of the palette. The bridesmaids could wear blue and green dresses – J. Crew offers lovely options.
The groom and groomsmen: I think charcoal grey suits would be best for the men. Black would be a little too dark, tan or khaki a little too light. Colors from the palette could be incorporated into their boutonneires and/or ties.
Accents and Details: Using gold throughout has the potential to look gaudy but if used sparingly, gold accents on the cake, centerpieces and bridal party’s jewelry would really add an elegant touch.
