Okay, how cute is Ilona + Philip’s wedding?   We’ve seen many different aisle treatments over the years, but never once have we seen individual daisies sprouting up beside the chairs.  Almost as delightful as the couple’s paper goods, wouldn’t you say?  And lastly, my favorite detail (before we get to the reception, of course!) is the guests’ duds.  Ilona + Philip asked their friends and family to don “garden party attire” for their soiree, and, as Ilona says, “many of our guests showed up in charmingly elegant retro outfits, like they were attending the Kentucky Derby.”  Love!  Planner Stacy McCain was on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly, and big thanks to the talented Anna Kuperberg for sending these images our way!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  We met on Friendster in 2005.  Philip had just moved to San Francisco from New York City and was hoping to reconnect with people from home, so he was searching the website for people who had grown up in Montgomery County, Maryland but currently lived in the Bay Area.  When he came across my profile, he was smitten, and sent me a message.  We hit it off immediately over email, and it was cemented when we went to see the movie 40-Year Old Virgin on our first date and Philip kept remarking throughout the movie how much he had in common with the main character.  It was clear right away that we shared the same quirky sense of humor and we could keep each other laughing for the rest of our lives.
Describe the proposal.
Philip proposed on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.  It was perfectly romantic-slash-cheesy — just our style.  It’s unclear how much he was influenced by the fact that I had been singing the Beyonce song “Single Ladies” (complete with dance moves and hand gestures) nonstop for several weeks preceding the proposal.
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
Delightful, fun-filled and relaxed.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
The Klezmer band, Kugelplex.  They are amazingly talented musicians and klezmer music (old-school Eastern European Jewish music) was not something most of our guests had ever experienced before.  Also, one of the first details we decided was a “must” for our wedding was lawn games: croquet, bocce ball, and horseshoes.  Also, our invitation said that the suggested attire was “garden party,” with hats encouraged, and, just as we had hoped, many guests showed up in charmingly elegant retro outfits, like they were attending the Kentucky Derby.

Croquet, bocce, and horseshoes? What a great idea for an outdoor wedding. I’ll have to tell my sister about this, because she is struggling to come up with good family oriented activities. I like it!

Welcome back to another spectacular Wanwisa Wednesday!

With Valentine’s Day just under a month away, I’m loving all the lingerie and boudoir inspired goodies out there. Instead of hearts and red satin, however, I looked for inspiration from Ceci New York’s sultry invitation on gray lucite with black and hot pink screen printing. It’s fun, luxurious and a very cool. That said, this week’s palette of hot pink combined with the classic combo of black and white is all about modern sophisticated romance! Have a peak!

Carnations may have a reputation of being the “affordable” old-school bloom, but hot pink cubes arranged in chic all-white vases look fresh and updated {via Instyle Weddings}. Nothing says classic like a Vera Wang – I just love the embellished black satin sash {via New York Weddings}; complete the look with couture heels by Christian Louboutin. Hot pink suede shoes are perfect for bridesmaids or pair them with DVF’s chic dress for rehearsal dinner {shoes by Jimmy Choo and Diane Von Furstenberg dress both available at Net-a-porter.com}. For the bridesmaids, a gorgeous satin number by Dessy via Martha Stewart Weddings. If carnations are not for you, check out Martha Stewart Weddings for other chic fuchsia blooms. Last but not least, nothing says sexy like a Tuxedo Macaron groom’s cake or a deliciously divine Printed Pattern and Appliqué Cake With Pink Buttons both via New York Magazine Weddings.

Until next Wednesday! Xoxo, Wanwisa

I know Emily Post (and our own Emily) are very clear that guests should not, under any circumstances, wear white to weddings, but this Georgia-based couple specifically asked friends and family to don white to their summer wedding.  And you know what?  I wouldn’t have thought an all-white wedding could work, but Meredith + Rodney show us how a colorless celebration can be modern, fun and effortlessly chic.  Jeremy Harwell’s crisp images of the couple’s backyard wedding only highlight the clean color palate and all-white accents coordinated by planner, Meredith Webb of a A Legendary Event.  While it’s certainly bad form to take the bride’s signature color (unless otherwise instructed by your hosts!), it’s the unanimous office decision that the guests’ attire at all detracted from the Meredith, in a sophisticated Priscilla of Boston gown.  The square, rhinestone-studded confection from The Frosted Pumpkin added the perfect touch of glamour to this otherwise clean, summery wedding.  Like this idea for your own warm weather nuptials?  Be sure to visit the photographer’s blog!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  We met at work  We both worked for a company called Dixie Homecrafters. After about a year, Rodney decided to pursue.  We started dating in March of 2003 and the rest is history.
Describe the proposal.
The proposal, if you want to call it, that was almost not a proposal at all.  Rodney asked me to set up some appointments to look at rings.  I set up the appointments and we went from store to store gathering information.  At one store, I saw the ring that I had sketched years ago but had never seen in any store.  Rodney noticed my excitement and he went up the counter, paid for the ring and told them to size it.  I asked what he was doing and he said, “I’m buying the ring; don’t you want it?”  I said yes, of course!  We left the store to go have lunch, and then we went back to pick up the ring.   He put the on my finger and asked me if I liked it.  When I asked if this meant we were engaged, he nonchalantly said yes.  And that was that!
Three words that describe your wedding:
Unforgettable, beautiful and fun.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding:
The design was inspired by our home. I wanted to incorporate something for Rodney because the groom often gets forgotten in all the planning, so I chose to have everything done in white since it’s his favorite color.  I even asked all of the guests to wear white!
What was your favorite design element?
My favorite design element was the all-white everything and the beautiful tents.
Tells us about finding your wedding dress.
Finding a dress was simple! I went alone to Priscilla of Boston and tried on about five dresses, then narrowed it down to two before settling on one.  I bought the dress about two weeks after we were engaged!
