Thank you so much for sharing these amazing images with us, Jeff!  Check out more on Jeff Greenough’s {BLOG}.

What was the design inspiration for your wedding?  The linens – everything started with the green striped linen we had on the cocktail tables.  We wanted lots of texture and a clean, beautiful look.

Describe your wedding flowers:  We wanted a mixture of pink, green, orange, and champagne colored, lush lilies and roses. We also included beautiful green orchids.  The cocktail tables hadorchid arrangements with bamboo around the outside of the container – everyone loved them!
Describe your wedding cake:  It was a delicious, chocolate almond marble, with two tone icing and fresh flowers.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding?  I didn’t feel like I had to overcome anything because our wedding planners made sure everything ran smoothly.  Weddings By Michelle was able to take any task that seemed monumental to us and make it so simple.  From the custom made draperies for the deck, to the lighting, to even building a sea glass display with our favors! They were a part of everything.
Scariest moment?  Almost missing our flight the next morning to Little Cayman Islands!  I was a little worried when the cab picked us up at 6:15 am and our flight left at 7:00 am.  Fortunately, we were able to get to our final destination.
Funniest moment?  When my friend Brandon started break dancing and doing the worm.
The most unexpected event on our wedding day was:  During the reception, we lost power for a minute. That’s downside to being at a house, I guess! However, it was back up and running by the time everyone had filled their glasses.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Romantic, Magical, Exquisite

What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding?  If I could suggest anything to a couple getting married, it would be to find a wedding planner you connect with and who will be able to interpret your vision for your wedding day.
What’s next for you as a couple? We are looking forward to building a family in the future. For right now though, we are just enjoying each other.  Jason is looking forward to growing his business and I’m excited about helping him.  We know what we would like out of life and for our future, but we are in no rush.  It’s nice just enjoying today and everything we already share.

Congratulations to Jessica + Jason!  Check back shortly for Part II of our double header…

We had so much fun with our double feature last week that we decided to do it again!  Our Southern Weddings of the Week come to us from {Jeff Greenough Photographers}. Jessica + Jason’s wedding is filled to the brim with delightful design details.  Michelle, of {Weddings by Michelle} did a fabulous job planning this gorgeous event!  Stunning flowers by {Bloom}

From Michelle: “Upon our first meeting with the Abbitt family, we quickly realized that they wanted an exquisite wedding but with a very intimate atmosphere.  Jessica and Jason’s vision was to have their wedding in her parent’s backyard, and because it is located directly off the James River, a romantic ambiance would be easy to achieve.  With such a beautiful natural surrounding, we focused on lush linens to complete the look.  Every detail was carefully thought out – from the fan programs which came in handy on a hot June day, the fifteen foot market umbrellas to provide shade, to the bamboo chairs that went perfectly with our outdoor setting.  There were so many special moments throughout the day that it is hard to narrow down just one.  However, I have to say it was a lasting memory for me to see the guests’ faces when they saw the backyard transformed after the ceremony.  Since both the ceremony and reception were held at the same location, it was important to us that we made the best use of the space.  During the ceremony, all of the decor for the reception was hidden behind muslin curtains that we designed and custom made for the deck. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails under a tent in the front yard.  When it was time for the reception to begin, all of the curtains were pulled back to show the beautiful tablescapes and special lighting.  Everyone raved about the transformation!”

How did the two of you meet?  Jason and I first met through my brother, Travis Abbitt.  Travis and Jason were close friends, so Jason spent many weekends with our family.  In the beginning, he seemed much older than me, so we started out as friends. Once I was older, we began to see each other in a different light.  We both realized how perfect we were for each other and what a wonderful life we could have together.
Describe the proposal:
Jason proposed to me on the 18th of March, which was a Sunday morning.  He woke me up with breakfast in bed and a flower he had picked out of the yard.  I could tell just by the look in his eyes that he had something to tell me.  He leaned down, kissed me, told me how much he loved me and asked me to share my life with him.  Then he pulled out the most beautiful ring I have ever laid eyes on and placed in on my finger.  We were both overwhelmed with emotion.  It was a wonderful way to wake up and we were able to enjoy that feeling all day long.
What attracted me to my husband was:
I was immediately drawn to Jason for many reasons.  His manners, grace, lifestyle and of course his good looks!  I love the way he always carries and presents himself to people in a positive light.  He is kind, respectful and sure assured.  Jason has always remained true to himself,I will always love that about him.

Why do you love your husband?  I love that he always pushes me, makes me try new things, laughs at and with me, and is always supportive.  Jason makes me want to be a better person, friend and lover.  The fact that he’s a cute fisherman, surfer and businessman doesn’t hurt either!
What attracted me to my wife was:  Jess was always a beautiful girl that was down to earth.  Being around her I always felt so comfortable.  I had never met another girl that I clicked with so well.  She would always show me so much attention and I loved it! To me, Jess was like that one piece of the puzzle that I needed to carry me into the future.
A date we went on that we’ll always remember:  We spent many days that lead into the evenings on our boat, in the James River.  We would go slowly through the creeks and have long conversations about anything and everything.  Usually, we’d end up at some little dive of a restaurant on the water, where we would eat seafood over a glass of beer.  We fell in love somewhere back in those creeks, on those lazy days.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:  I was one of those brides who wasn’t going to buy the first dress I tried on.  One Saturday, my Mom, Maid of Honor and I decided to go look at a boutique in Virginia Beach called Pure English.  Helen, the owner, helped in choosing the dresses I would try on and she knew exactly what would look best on my body type.  The first dress I tried on was beautiful.  Being so petite, I was afraid of a wedding dress overwhelming me, but it felt as though that dress was made for me.  I tried on a few more dresses but always came back to the first one – which I purchased.
The weather on our wedding day was:  Seasonably warm, but with blue skies and puffy white clouds!
Favorite design element of your big day:  Our altar was my favorite design element.  When Michelle, my wedding planner, showed me a picture with the idea, I fell in love with it instantly.  My father and Jason built it from bamboo cut out of our yard.  It was draped with natural colored muslin, and adorned with strings of white and pink flowers.  My father even saved the muslin material that we were married under, so that one day our children could marry under it too.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: The fact that we were able to get married in my parent’s backyard was my favorite detail! We were overlooking the James River. It is such a breathtaking view!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? The kiss.  I felt like there was no one present except for us.  It was like time stopped and we lost ourselves in the moment.
Were there any special family traditions you included in the wedding? I wore gardenia in my hair, in loving memory of my mema, Elizabeth Taylor Singletary.  Jason proposed to me on her birthday, the 18th of March.  It was like a gift from her to my family and I.

Check back shortly for Part II of Jessica + Jason~

Thank you so much, Janey, of {Mary Jane Photography} for sharing this beautiful wedding with us!  Be sure to visit Janey’s {BLOG} for more.  And check back shortly for a very special Friday post…

Describe your wedding cake:  Nick:  Delicious!!  Emily: To elaborate on Nick’s point a bit, we had 2 flavors of wedding cake- the first was chocolate cake with raspberry mousse and the second was lemon chiffon cake with white chocolate mousse and blackberry preserves.  In terms of design, the cake was covered with white fondant and had textured “ribbons” (made of fondant) around each tier with fondant buttons as well as blue Hydrangea blossoms placed at various places along the ribbon.  The top tier of the cake was covered with blue Hydrangea blossoms with pearl accents.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Probably the biggest challenge we had to overcome while planning our wedding was making the majority of our decisions long-distance. We had to “jump in” and put a lot of trust and faith in our vendors.  However, our wedding planner did an amazing job of recommending vendors and in guiding us throughout the process, and our vendors really listened to our ideas and visions for each aspect of our wedding and brought them to fruition perfectly.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Emily: Hire a wedding planner, if only just for the day of coordination- it really reduces the stress level and lets you fully enjoy every aspect of the planning process and wedding day. Also, people always say that your wedding goes by so quickly- and it truly does.  So make sure to stop, take a breath, and take a few moments to just look around you and take in your surroundings- look at all that has been done by all of your vendors to create your perfect day, look at all of the friends and family who are there to support you, and, most importantly, steal away for a few minutes alone with your spouse to really let all the emotion and events of the day soak in.  Nick: Agreed, wedding planner is worth his/her weight in gold.  It allows you to focus on making important decisions, not haggling w/ vendors and stressing the day of.  Get a wedding planner, and take it out of your budget if you have to- it’s so worth it.  The day of, relax and realize the monumental moments that are taking place in front of you and try your best to enjoy them.  Take time to yourself- it won’t feel like you did… it will still feel like a blur… but giving yourself a few moments to enjoy the scene will help you capture your memories for the rest of your life.
Why do you love your husband?  There are a lot of tangible things that I love about him: his confidence, his sense of humor and playfulness, his ambition, his intelligence, his strength of character, his ability to listen, and the fact that we can do the most mundane, “boring” things and always have so much fun and laughter together.   There are also other intangibles as well – it’s hard to describe, but I just feel like a better, more secure person when I’m with him.
Why do you love your wife?  It is everything about her from her sense of humor to her cute insecurities.  Emily is a perfect angel in every way.  We are absolutely best friends and I enjoy every single minute that we spend together.  Words really don’t even come close to describing how happy Emily makes me feel.
A date we went on that we’ll always remember:  Nick: We went to an amazing fondue place in downtown Chicago while Emily was living there for grad school.  The date is so memorable because in addition to a great meal, and a romantic ambiance, we will never forget the fact that we had a little too much to drink.  We didn’t realize it until we had a member of the wait staff ask us to quiet down.  Definitely memorable.  Emily: Agreed- it was definitely a night that I’m sure we won’t forget any time in the near future!
Other fun details:  We really wanted to show our guests how much we appreciated their making the trip out to California to celebrate our wedding with us.  One way we did that was by giving our guests welcome bags – in them were a welcome note Nick and I wrote up, a bottle of wine from a local Santa Barbara vineyard, a Carolina coffee mug, candles, sunscreen, and Kona coffee (from Hawaii, where we were going for our honeymoon). Some other things that we added to our wedding to make it unique and fun were a fresh sushi station during cocktail hour, an ice luge, and a Marble Slab ice cream station for dessert.  Also, to tie in some more Carolina-themed elements, our signature drink was a blueberry mojito and, rather than using traditional table numbers, we named them after various UNC/Chapel Hill streets and landmarks that were meaningful to us.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Nick:  Puppies! Emily: To add to Nick’s comment, we definitely want to just enjoy being married- we kind of felt like a married couple already, so not a lot will change in the near future… but we just want to continue to spend lots of quality time together. Although, we’d definitely like to take advantage of our time as just a 2-person family by doing some traveling.  And, yes- a puppy is also in our not-too-distant future!

Congrats to Emily + Nick!  We wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness!
