I love roses.  Love ‘em!  And while I usually lean towards ivory and pale pink blooms, there’s something about the creamy white and rich reds and oranges of these Enchanted Florist centerpieces that takes my breath away.  Stunning!  Southall Eden in Franklin, Tennessee proved to be the perfect venue for the couple’s intimate ceremony and reception, with large, open spaces, bright Italian street-style lighting and an authentic farmhouse.  Let’s all take a moment to enjoy the dessert spread and simple, two-tiered wedding cake (from Publix!).  Who wants to bet there weren’t any leftovers?  Check out The Photographix’s blog post about Jessica + Dane’s wedding here.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I actually did not try on very many. I initially wanted a much slimmer look, but after trying on a few I found I was so much more comfortable in the a-line, dropped waist style I picked. I knew I wanted a certain fabric- dupioni silk, because I loved the rich texture of it. I saw a picture of a short dress in a magazine and loved the hem. I then met Maria Elena Bishop, a tailor in Hillsboro Village in downtown Nashville, and she helped me turn those little bits into my dress!
Describe your wedding flowers:
The flowers were very important to me. I was so excited to see how all the florals turned out! They were roses with bittersweet “halos” and kumquats! I loved the kumquats because they were so unique!

Describe your wedding cake: I had desserts for everyone: a variety of little pies and cheesecake bites, so that was the main dessert. But, for tradition’s sake, I ordered a small two tier from Publix. It was ivory with little loop-de-loops around the base.
Were there any wedding traditions or new ideas you included in the wedding?
My cousin lent me a ring that her father gave her mother on their wedding day. It meant a lot to have a family heirloom with me on that day.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? I wouldn’t know where to start! The day seems kind of like a blur with little moments that will stand in my memory forever! I will always remember hiding before the wedding so that Dane wouldn’t see me!  My hiding place was perfect, I could peek out a door and see everyone as they arrived. That was exciting.

Did you write your own vows?
If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We did not; we had a very traditional service.
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future?
We are enjoying married life and looking forward to traveling as much as we can these next few years before we start a family. Just waking up next to each other is super exciting!

What the first thing that catches your eye in Jessica + Dane’s down-home Tennessee nuptials, shot by The Photographix and planned by Dawn Schenkel of Premier Wed?  If it’s the magnificent autumn bouquet from Enchanted Florist, you’re not alone!  Special SW secret: the bride based her entire wedding design around the beautiful blooms in her rustic bouquet.  The next best thing?  The bride’s custom-designed gown from Romantic Creations!  Come back soon: we’ve got more awesomeness to share!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story. We met at church in a Sunday school class. Dane had been involved in the group for a few years, and I was new to the area. The youth minister told Dane to introduce himself to me as we both had a similar story.  While at school, my family had moved from South Carolina to Nashville. My parents thought I should give school in Tennessee a chance and I was dragged, kicking and screaming, to Nashville. Dane was moved, also kicking and screaming, to Nashville shortly after he graduated high school in 2002.  His parents sold their business in Michigan and prepared to open one in Nashville, and did not want Dane to begin his freshman year alone with no family close by. Poor Dane found all this out a matter of weeks before he was to leave! Dane came over to me, introduced himself, and a few nights later we went to a movie and stood outside talking for a few hours. Since then, we have been inseparable. And, I might add, we LOVE it here in Nashville and might never leave!!
Describe the proposal.
Dane took me to Chicago: he wanted the moment to be perfect. Everyone thought that he was going to do it at dinner the night we got there, so when I woke up the next morning, I had several text messages, like “Show me a picture!!” I, not even realizing that they might mean a picture of THE RING, sent them pictures of Chicago out our window! Dane’s plan was to take me to the botanical gardens, so we went there and right when Dane was about to “pop the question,” a family unpacked a picnic a few feet away. By this point, I was definitely starting to wonder what was going on with him – I could tell he was nervous! We ended up going back to the hotel, and it was there, standing by the window that he finally asked me. It was perfect and we enjoyed the moment before calling our families. I loved having time together before we went home just to focus on each other and savor the time.
Three adjectives that describe the day are:
Elegant, bright and happy.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding?
I found a bouquet on a wedding website and fell in love with the color palette. It varied as I planned, but I knew I wanted a color palette, not just a few specific colors. That little bouquet started me off- it captured Fall for me in an elegant way and gave me something to work from.
What was your favorite design element of your big day?
I loved how our dresses came together. I also loved the pop of the flowers against the dresses. I really wanted my flower girls to have these bronze dresses, but they were sold out in their sizes. I ended up frantically ordering some last minute, and they couldn’t have worked out better. It wasn’t until I saw the pictures that I realized the hems of their dresses mimicked mine, and I love that. I also loved their dark boots.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was:
Probably the Italian street fair lighting. This made the outdoor space feel more enclosed and less open. It made the space elegant but also kept it casual.

I’m not a sentimental person, but, really, how sweet is this Kentucky reception photographed by Todd Nichols Photography?  Alexis + Thad celebrated their new marriage with an outdoor soiree on the sprawling lawn of Locust Grove.  The rich navy and crisp white accents are lovely against the open green spaces around the tent, and the fresh lemon and lime accents a perfectly Southern accent.   Wish I could share a slice of the flower-topped confection from Thornberry’s Delicatessen with the too-cute newlyweds!

Describe your wedding flowers: Old-fashioned and Southern to the core.  My bouquet consisted of all white hydrangeas, cabbage roses and peonies.  The bridesmaids carried bouquets of pink and green hydrangeas and white roses.  The aisle was lined with hot pink rose petals and the rows were marked with pink and green pomander balls.  The reception tent was decorated with a variety of flowers.  The tables had arrangements of white and green hydrangeas, belles of Ireland, white roses and gerber daises.
Describe your wedding cake: We chose a five-tiered cake with five different flavors: chocolate, white, marble, strawberry, and lemon with butter cream frosting. The Groom’s cake was individual chocolate meringue pies.
Describe the food and drink at your reception: The reception began with appetizers that had a North Carolina influence.  We served “Redneck Martinis,” eastern style Bar-B-Que, cole slaw and hush puppies.  We also had specialty drinks including “Lover’s Lemonade,” made of old fashioned lemonade and vodka as well as Kentucky’s finest bourbon.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? It was a hot and humid Kentucky summer day.  I had dreamed of an outdoor wedding and reception but I was always afraid of rain on my wedding day.  We had to be prepared for 300+ guests in the best or worst weather. Luckily, the sun was shining the entire day.
Were there any wedding traditions or new ideas you included in the wedding?  We tried to blend traditions from both families into our wedding.  We both have deep Southern roots so we wanted to highlight those with our music and décor.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Dancing and celebrating with our closest family and friends.
Where did you honeymoon?  We took a 10-day trip through Italy and Spain.  We were really looking forward to some rest and relaxation and this was the perfect trip!

Congratulations, Alexis + Thad!  We hope you had a blast on your European honeymoon!
