Like the bride + groom, we are in love with their bold red + orange color palette.  And how about Sheila’s ruffled red Qupid pumps or the flowers from Ribbons and RosesWoo, baby!  Gorgeous.  Sheila wore an Allure gown and heirloom fingertip veils to her ceremony at the Mobile Museum of Art, and her maids were lovely in platinum floor-length gowns.  Evan Davis of Buttercakes designed the ribboned four-tiered cake.  For more images from Sheila + Matt’s Alabama wedding, visit Amy + Douglas Anderson’s post on the Studio A Photography blog!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story.  I was celebrating a friend’s and my birthday one weekend in October of 2005. We both invited our friends, which included, Matt. I wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time, but he was just too cute asking me question after question trying to get to know my interests and hobbies… and not just my number. I knew he was different, and we became friends and immediately clicked because we had so much in common. We began dating a couple weeks later and spent as much time together outside of the classroom as we did in class until our graduation in May 2009.
Describe the proposal. When I asked Matt if there was anything in particular he wanted to do to celebrate his birthday, he said he wanted to go to an art museum. We decided on Mobile Museum of Art in Langan Park, where I had taken him to feed the ducks for his birthday three years earlier. We looked around the museum until closing and decided to walk on the bridge right outside. I wanted to sit down for a bit and Matt pointed out a bench that we had walked past earlier. As we were walking to the bench, he was nervously telling me how special I was to him.  When we sat down, he pulled out an abstract painting (his specialty) that he had made for me that read “Marry Me?” He hid it three hours before we arrived. I said “yes,” and felt like it was more my birthday than his! And seven months later, we tied the knot right outside the same museum.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Unique, multi-cultural and vibrant!
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: We loved the DIY elements we designed, printed and assembled ourselves.  We came up with a circle design that represented our married name, Overstreet, on things like the invitations, programs, menus and table names.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I knew I was looking for something Matt would like, of course, but something more modern than traditional, and definitely simple. I tried on about 15 gowns at one store, and nothing clicked, so I decided to visit the new “I Do” bridal salon on my way home. We were there at closing, but Bonnie let us in to play dress up. The third dress I tried on was it! It was very me and him at the same time.
Describe your wedding flowers:
We knew what we didn’t want: pinks or roses. An explosion of bold colors and really cool, natural pieces of art is what we wanted, and think we found just that with dahlias, daisies, ranunculus, carnations, lisianthus and tulips. I especially loved my bouquet! I couldn’t stop staring at it.
Describe your wedding cake: Simple, modern and gorgeous! We wanted a red and orange ribbon effect circling around each of the four tiers to create movement. The cake was set on a simple white cake stand, with a couple of fresh dahlias for the finishing touches. We designed the cake ourselves, and went on a hunt for the perfect cake baker to do it. The talented Evan Davis did it perfectly!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Matt says the moment he saw me walk down the aisle towards him was his favorite. Mine would have to be when we were saying our vows. I knew the beginning of our married life together was about to begin with all of our loved ones surrounding us. It was unforgettable.
Did you write your own vows?  If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We didn’t write on our own vows, but we did choose them.  My brother-in-law was the officiant, and before the wedding he added one small detail to our vows that really touched us both: “I am honored to call you my wife/husband.” As we looked into each other’s eyes and said those words, we couldn’t help but shed tears of joy.
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future? Our honeymoon in Florence and Rome has really sparked our adventurous side, and we hope to travel to Asia within the next year. Right now. we are in the process of looking for our first home together, and hope to start our family in the next few years.

Congratulations, Sheila + Matt!  Happy travels!

We were a little focused on the bright pops of yellow in our first post, but we equally like the clean, neutral colors of the attendants’ J. Crew ensembles.  Plus, gray and yellow is pretty hot right now, and apparently for good reason!  And while we’re (still) talking about colors, check out the bride’s fiery-red hair against her white-white dress.  Stunning!  Laurens Floral designed the sweetly understated blooms for Alexandra + Josh’s outdoor celebration at the Four Oaks Manor.  I’m completely in love with the last shot of the newlyweds stealing a kiss beneath a lit gazebo.  For more from Scobey Photography, visit their galleries!

Describe your wedding cake: We went for a cake buffet. Josh and I bought the wood for the cake stands in New Mexico. He sawed each slice by hand, and packed them up and brought them with us in our luggage to New Mexico.  We served seven cakes, some reflecting the Southern food theme, and others that are personal favorites. My mom and I baked four of them (Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Cake, Orange Amaretto Cake, Chocolate Flan), Josh’s mom baked two (Apple Pie and Banana Pudding) and Josh’s grandmother made the bread pudding. I think if our guests had planned the wedding we would have had the dessert before the ceremony!
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Packing! Living 1400 miles away and being a big DIY crafter, we ended up checking 4 50-pound suitcases, and carrying on 2 suitcases and 2 personal items. Luckily, I had taken my dress to Atlanta in a previous trip.
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Walking back down the aisle as a married couple to the Zelda theme song while our friends gave us a thumbs-up for the song choice. Josh says his favorite part was watching me walk down the aisle.
Did you write your own vows?  If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We did write our own vows, much to Josh’s dismay. I wrote mine first, and he based his off of mine, so they were similar but different. Our last 3 lines were the same, though: “I will be open and honest with you. Where you go, I will go, and we will have an adventure together. I will love you with all my heart.” Josh:
What’s next for you as a couple?  What are you looking forward to in the future?  We didn’t go on a honeymoon right away, so we are looking forward to spending 12 days in Costa Rica this summer!

Yellow makes me happy.  And so does the bride’s red hair :)  Alexandra, in lemon yellow Luxury Rebel Chita pumps, and Josh, in matching Chuck Taylors, exchanged vows at the Four Oaks Manor in Hamilton, Georgia.  We smiled when we saw that the bridesmaids + groomsmen also got in on the yellow trend with their own shoes!  The bride wore an embellished Alfred Angelo gown + simple tulle veil.  2010 is all about bows (my wedding dress has one or two itself!), and if you look hard you can see the back bow detailing on Alexandra’s dress.  What do you think of the bow trend?  Check back soon for more images from the husband and wife duo at Scobey Photography!

How did the two of you meet?  Tell us your story. We met at Georgia Tech in the Music Listening Room where Josh was working. I thought Josh was cute, and asked his name, but he wouldn’t tell me! He claims he didn’t know I was talking to him. Some of the other employees just gave me hints – like his name starts with J – and made me guess. The next semester, I got a job at the MLR, too, and arranged my schedule to be almost the same as Josh’s. It took a few months, but we finally went on our first date in March of 2003.
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Fun, relaxed and perfect.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Josh’s favorite part was the food and, of course, our guests.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I was a two-dress bride. Since our engagement lasted just under four months, I had to find a dress fast. I tried on about 11 dresses with my mom around Christmas, and had to make a decision that day. I ended up buying a beautiful dress that just wasn’t me. So in late February, after much debate, Josh offered to buy the dress I really wanted from Alfred Angelo. He was willing to drive to any of the surrounding states looking for a store with my size in-stock! It turns out my local store had a NEW sample in my size and was willing to sell it to me. Even with slight alterations, the dress was ready with two weeks to spare. I LOVED my dress. The pockets were the main feature I just knew I had to have. If I could wear the dress everyday, I would.
Describe your wedding flowers: Wild, simple and perfect. We used a lot of daisies and spray flowers in yellows and whites. The bouquets were loose and natural. Laurens Floral Art gave me everything I wanted, including peonies in my bouquet! We never met in person before the wedding, but he really picked up on my vision and pulled it together while staying within my budget.

I love the bow trend! My wedding dress has a cute bow in the front at the waist. I’ll be wearing it in my September Wedding.
