Southern Weddings

Author: Katharine

And I thought the holidays were supposed to be the busiest time of the year!  We’ve had an extraordinarily busy – and extra exciting – week here at Southern Weddings.  To catch you up on the latest SW news, I’ve created the 60 second recap.  Ready, set, read!

Buy Your Copy of the New SW Issue!

It’s official!  The November issue of Southern Weddings is on newsstands near you!  Can’t wait to for your local Barnes & Nobles to get the issue?  Order a copy directly from us right here!

Some (but definitely not all!) of the Store Listings:

While we don’t have the complete list of stores carrying the newest issue yet, we posted quite a few hotspots where you can pick up your copy!  First up on the list: Books-A-Million and Texas retailers (specifically Houston, San Antonia and Grand Prairie).  We’ll be posting more store listing as we get them, so be sure to come back soon!

Love for Southern Weddings, from all corners of the blogosphere!

We’re so grateful for the  love and support from our fellow bloggers who offered sneak peeks of the new editorial features! To whet your appetite, we’ve included snippets of some of our favorite here.

Hazel + Harlow Jewelry + Pet Contest:

Attention all Pet Lovers!  Did you know that jewelry favorite Hazel + Harlow was named for the owner’s two dogs?  To honor the Hazel + Harlow furry namesakes and mascots, we’re offering a special giveaway to the cutest pet (okay, to her owner!).  Send a picture of your pet with a brief description of why he deserves the chance to win a gorgeous golden horseshoe necklace to whitney {at] iloveswmag {dot} com.

Etiquette with Emily: Engagement Party Guest Lists:

Things got a little heated (again!) on the SW blog, thanks to Emily’s biweekly etiquette post.  This week, Emily, who is currently helping plan her older sister’s August nuptials, posed an especially tough question: when it comes to engagement party guests lists, who makes the cut?  Want to know our Art Director’s final verdict?  Make sure you catch her follow-up post in a few weeks.  In the meantime, if you’ve got any burning etiquette questions for Miss Emily you’d like to see featured on the blog, send them her way at Emily {at} iloveswmag {dot} com.

Real Weddings

It wouldn’t be a truly Southern week at Southern Weddings without a few all-star weddings, and our photographers (thanks Cameron Ingalls, Cesar + Tanya Perez, Aregrayline Weddings and Kristin Marie Photography!) definitely didn’t disappoint with Heather + Jordan’s, Amy + Carl’s, Susan + Troy’s, or Anca + Jordan’s happy celebrations.

Contest Winner for a Super (Mammothly) Southern Gift Basket:

We asked readers to help us come up with some distinctly Southern names for our favorite troupe of all-male photographers, the Mammoth Men.  Up for a good laugh?  Check out the super Southern (and sometimes redneck) monikers winner Cyndi proposed for the guys.  Reading this post, Cyndi?  Be sure to email me at katharine {at} iloveswmag {dot} com to claim your prize!

Sponsor Love: Cover Ads:

We’re so thankful and impressed by our talented advertisers who made this last issue we possible, we just had to introduce them to you!  We think you’ll agree that their beautiful – and strategically placed – ads really made the magazine even better!  Want to be a part of the next issue, due out in stores this July?  Email me at katharine {at} iloveswmag {dot} com to reserve your spot.

Mega Photo Contest:

Of course, don’t forget about the SW Mega Photo Contest!  (Yes, that is Emily above before she worked for Southern Weddings!) The first twenty readers to email me a picture of them with their brand new copy of the November issue (subject line: I LOVE SW!) will win a very special secret surprise.  Get snappin’, ladies (and gents)!

We’re having a busy Friday here and are about to take care of some very serious business… ie office Christmas pictures at the mall with Santa!  Be sure to follow all of us on twitter to get in on the fun.

And a very happy 20th birthday to our fabulous intern, Alyssa!  Want to join our amazing intern team?  Click here.

Happy weekend, y’all!

The November issue of Southern Weddings has officially been on shelves across the country for the past week!  For those of you who already have flipped through the mag, you’re probably as in love with the real weddings, the special editorial features and, of course, the bombshell cover courtesy of photography superstar, Jeremy Cowart, as we are.

Of course, this issue would not have been possible without the support of our advertisers.  At Southern Weddings, we really believe the advertisers (and ads!) we select are an integral part of our editorial features.  Selecting and finalizing an ad for print is more than just squeezing them into whatever open spaces may be left over after all the text is placed; rather, when Emily, Lara and I sit down to plan our editorial line-up, we treat the ads like any other feature.  Ads are not only strategically placed next to or near appropriate features, but if Lara doesn’t like the aesthetics of a given ad, she has no qualms about editing it until it is as beautiful as the surrounding pieces.  (Take a minute to flip through our ads in this last issue and you’ll see what I mean!)  While our sponsors have not paid for this post, we wanted to give them a shout-out, say thanks and introduce their work to you, starting with our cover ads.

J. Malahy Photography

Exposed to photography from an early age, Josh Malahy has always been fascinated with the process of taking pictures.  From anticipating that perfect moment and envisioning a composition to capturing it on film and then waiting to see the final image, Josh loves everything about film photography – and that passion is reflected in every wedding he shoots!  Based in Memphis and Atlanta, J. Malahy Photography is a bride-favorite throughout the southeast.  Committed to only shooting weddings so as to provide brides with a unique and personalized experience, Josh wows with simple, clean compositions and classic, timeless images that quickly become family treasures.  Catch a glimpse of Josh’s work here and be sure to follow his blog!

Asian Bees Photography

After seeing her bright, modish ad on our inside back cover, it’s no surprise that Annabella Brandon’s website is riddled with rave reviews from happy clients praising her fresh approach, relaxed and creative style, and knack for capturing “real life” from behind a lens.  Cleverly named after a childhood mispronunciation of the letters A’s and B’s, the Memphis-based Asian Bees Photography specializes in modern wedding photography in Nashville and around the country.  Learn more about the husband and wife team at Asian Bees Photography here and follow their blog here!

Modern Photographers

A collective of some of the best and most talented photographers in the country, Modern Photographers hold themselves and their peers to a higher standard of quality and creativity – and their brides reap all the benefits!  Unlike most traditional studios, Modern Photographers was created to give couples looking for artistic professionals a place to connect with the very best in modern wedding photography.  Voted onto the collective by experts in the industry before they are even featured on the site, the members of Modern Photographers truly are part of an elite group of highly recommended wedding professionals.  Looking for a topnotch photographer for your upcoming nuptials?  Be sure to check out Modern Photographers’ renowned one-stop site to find a qualified expert in your area.  Fun Fact: Modern Photographers has graced our back cover for the last two years, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Last week, we made super Southern swag bags to welcome the Mammoth Men to the Dirty South!  Craft diva, Emily, made personalized (and Southernized) name tags, which got us thinking… what is the most Southern name out there?  We got lots of great responses (think “The Boar-Hunting Men,” “Jeff NewSouth” and “Justin Lee ‘Walk the’ Lyon”), but we think Cyndi really countrified the Mammoth Men!

Thanks to Cyndi, the Mammoth Men will be affectionately referred to by the following names whenever they are in the Southland:

Dale Kaiser
Earl Earnhardt Egan
Billy Ray Justin Lyon
Clint East Norwood
Bubba Gump Barnes
Bo Diddly Sloan
Jed Newsom
Cletus Cordy
Floyd Flan-again
Buddy Jo John Brooke
Otis Ray Chan
Rufus Ray Renner

Cyndi, email me at katharine {at} iloveswmag {dot} com to claim your gift bag!

Yeehaw!
