We think the reception photos of Kate + JoJo’s laid back Vermont wedding – courtesy of Jen Huang Photography – are as effortlessly lovely as the ceremony shots, but it’s the dockside portraits of the happy couple that really make us swoon. The bride, in a sweetheart dress from RK Bridal, and groom toasted their “I dos” with a tented reception at the Edson Hill Manor, where guests enjoyed fiddling, family + food. Not a bad trio, if you ask me! Marion Peer of Vermont Sweet Tooth designed cupcakes in lieu of a traditional wedding cake, and the Stray Cat Flower Farm decked the tent with fresh greens and seasonal blooms. We leave you with a colorful parting shot of the dapperly-attired bridal party in the hopes that you’re as excited for the warmer months – and Southern fashion! – as we are.
What Southern details or traditions did you include in your celebration? What was Southern about your wedding? Fiddle playing, family and food.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress: It was the most inexpensive dress I tried on! I found it at R&K Bridal and it was perfect – simple and lacy, which is all I wanted. I added buttons down the back.
Describe your wedding flowers: We got wildflowers from Stray Cat Farm in Vermont. We chose loose wildflowers and a friend arranged them on the tables the day of the wedding. Stray Cat Farm made some wildflower arrangements in tins for the altar and the buffet tables, and then they made bouquets of snapdragons, my favorite flower, in the color of the dresses/theme.
Describe your wedding cake: We had cupcakes made by a local baker, Marion Peer, of Vermont Sweet Tooth. Her cupcakes were to die for, in three flavors with buttermilk frosting: Lemony-Snicket with orange zest, carrot cake with candied ginger, and chocolate chunk.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what was your favorite phrase, verse or line? We did. We tried to center our vows on the idea that we would work together and draw strength from this day when times get hard.
What’s next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? We are happy! We might move to a bigger apartment, but in NYC that is a bit hard to do. We hope to take a second honeymoon in Guatemala next winter.
Just beautiful– makes me want Summer to come even more quickly!
What a beautiful location for a wedding!!
Soooo lovely, soooo creative, soooo tasteful…I hope it’s soooo happy!
I absolutely love everything about this simple yet beautiful wedding. I especially love the Luly Yang gown. This is exactly like what I have been searching for but can’t find at any bridal shop I have been shopping at in the SE. I wonder if this gown can only be purchased at Luly Yang’s shop in Seattle? I also thought the flowy, feminine bridesmaid’s gown were beautiful.
Christi: I looked far and wide for just the perfect dress and ended up finding it by accident one day walking down the street in Seattle. Sadly, the only place you can get a Luly Yang dress is at her boutique in Seattle, but I knew for sure that none of my friends would end up wearing the same one! They did an utterly AMAZING job with it. It was truly a couture dress and was made for me, not cut down from another size to fit me. Her designs are so romantic and light, I wish I had another place to wear it! Best of luck in your search. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect one! – Kiley
Kiley: Thank you! I am seriously considering going with a Matthew Christopher gown. It is the La Fleur style from several years ago. I just have my heart set on those ruffles, its so victorian but also simple and elegant. It is nice to have something different on your wedding day and that too is what I am going for in my gown. I am fair skinned with strawberry blonde hair so it was nice to see comeone else, with similar coloring daring to not wear white. I would just blend into my surroundings in white. :) Best of luck to you, you were a stunning bride.
We just adored this couple and their wedding was incredibly memorable! Every little detail was important to us and Paul Johnson Photography really captured the beauty of their big day! We <3 Southern Weddings!! xoxo
Adore everything about this wedding! Kiley’s dress is stunning and I love the muted pastel color palette!
