For Southern Weddings V9, we asked a few of our wisest, most creative, and just plain fun friends how they celebrate their anniversaries. From simple takeout dinners served on wedding china, to trips back to honeymoon destinations, and everything in between, their ideas spanned every timeframe, budget, and tradition we can think of. Whether you’ll be celebrating your first anniversary or your fifteenth this year, we hope these ideas inspire you–we’ll be sharing a new one each Sunday!

For our first anniversary, we agreed to stick to the traditional gift of paper and simply make cards for each other. Alan surprised me with a creative work-around of the paper rule: he filled my card with paper tickets to a Michael Bublé concert (where Michael sang our first dance song!).

Last year, I made Jeremy a giant photo collage of all our Instagram photos from the first year of our marriage. I framed the collage and put a gold “1” on top. I plan to make one every year on our anniversary, so hopefully one day, we will have a garage or hallway or basement lined with giant photo collages of our marriage throughout the years!

For our first anniversary, I knew that Blair wanted a home office, so I took inspiration from the traditional gift (paper) and modern gift (clock) to transform a bedroom upstairs into a space where he could work from home. Since we had just moved in and literally had no furniture on our second floor, it was fun to work on the space while he was away. To this day, he claims he had no idea anything was happening up there!
